I was sleeved on 12/8 and have only lost 22 lbs since the surgery. I hit the dreaded 3 week stall, but it last for FOUR FLIPPING WEEKS! It finally broke and I lost 3 more lbs in 2 weeks. Now I'm in the midst of another 1 week stall. I knew to expect the first stall, but is the second one so close normal? I know it's not productive to compare myself to others, but I really am getting discouraged that I haven't lost more by this point. I'm getting my Protein & Water, watching my carbs and get about 800-900 calories a day. I'm also working out about 3 times a week. UGH!!!

Hi all! I am preop (surgery is scheduled for 3/2). I'm wondering if anyone has ideas/tips on what to cook for your family postop. I'm mostly concerned with the first month or 2 while I'm on liquids and soft mushy foods. Was cooking agonizing for you at that time? Thanks in advance! :-)

Since I normally post in the "band to bypass" thread I'll try to make a long story short lol. I had the lapband put in on 2.22.10 Band was removed and bypass revision was done on 8.1.14 due to band slipping and not being able to eat solid foods for months. Starting weight for band was 277, starting weight for bypass was 213. I had my 6 month appointment on the 3rd with my surgeon in which I weighed in at 145. I told my surgeon that my personal goal was 155 and that I wanted to learn how to maintain/stop losing. She agreed that I was in a good spot and gave me some suggestions. I've been monitoring my weight for the past week and the scale always reads (no matter the…

I come from a HUGE Mexican/Italian family and they love to cook traditional food. I have done good as far as finding substitutions for the Italian food, but there are just some Mexican dishes where you need a tortilla. What is the best one? Whole wheat or corn? What do you find works best ad far as settling in your pouch?

I had surgery on Thursday morning in Richmond, VA and returned home (four hours away) on Sunday. I was feeling great right after the surgery. Out of bed two hours after, walking, talking....I felt strong. Liquids have not been an issue...they go down easy in small sips. I've had a fair amount of gas that is working its way out in all sorts of interesting ways. My abdomen is sore and looks like I got beat up. Today was the hardest day by far. I took both Diluadid and Zofran last night and slept fourteen hours without waking up (so uncommon for me). When I did wake up I was nauseous (I imagine this was lack of liquids) and just felt without energy. I felt dizzy,…

so, a huge NSV for me this weekend, I went shopping at the mall for the first time since surgery for new clothes. (I've been to places like Savers and goodwill buying things here and there, but this was my first mall outing). I went into stores I've never stepped foot in... and I BOUGHT there too! WOOHOOO! I went to H&M, Aeropostale, Forever 21,just to name a few. So, since this is a whole new shopping world for me, where are some stores that you like to go in now that you're on the losers bench? My old go-to store was Dressbarn for Women, and I'm so happy to have a new variety of stores to shop at. Please share your new favorites- whether in store on online- I…

Ok, this is my first post but I've been reading/lurking for a few of weeks. I'm preparing for my bypass surgery which is scheduled for 3/2/2015. I have my pre-op surgery appointment on Monday, 2/16. I begin the 2 week pre-surgery diet on 2/17/2015. I'm a 40+ yo mother of 4, married for 16 years to a man who has never thrown my weight in my face or used it in any way against me. He is very supportive and he's almost as excited as I am. I've had a weight problem since I was around 11, and I can relate to a lot of the stories I've read on here. My focus is to, "Achieve in 2015!" I'm open to any suggestions or recommendations, helpful hints and the like. I am so …

So I was following this guy on Instagram.. Not anymore.. He lost 200 lbs.. According to him the hard way.. And even tho he didn't have surgery he was an inspiration.. I like his workouts etc... Well he posted a pic of a before and after.. And the caption read " hard work.. No surgeries.. No easy way" WHAT? Getting cut open and having ur insides rearrange easy? Learning how to eat all over again... Easy? Let's not even get into getting approved.. My husband gave me the easy way out speech and I flipped on him and now he's a cheerleader... I will not let anyone minimize my hard work.. Mind you I haven't had surgery yet.. But beware!!! I will flip on you!! Politely of course…

Don't get me wrong, I'm really excited to be consistently loosing weight, but this is getting expensive! Thank God for a nice consignment store and thrift stores near by! I started out in 22-20's (238) and I'm down to a comfortable 16 (202). I bought my first pair of "skinny jeans" recently. Not because I feel like I'm skinny, but I have a FLATTTTTT BUTT! We were away at Thanksgiving visiting family for a few days. The jeans that I'd packed were falling off of me and I could feel the back of my jeans flapping in the wind because I have no a$$! Fortunately I found a Goodwill store nearby and got a few pair of jeans relatively cheap. I even got a couple pair of 14's j…

Hi Everyone! After having my lapband taken out last October I am considering RNY. I met with my bariatric surgeon today who said she thinks I am a good candidate. When I told her that last year I had kidney stone surgery she seems a bit concerned. She told me to speak with my Kidney Stone doc and tell her I was considering RNY and see what she says. I'm just wondering if you or anyone you know has had any issues with Kidney stones. Apparently once people have gastric bypass their chance for kidney stones doubles! Marieze

Just sharing updates about my journey... I had surgery on 1/6 and am still not back to work yet. No traumas, just taking the full 6 weeks recommended by my surgeon. I go back to work on Monday. He strongly encourages 6 weeks not for physical recovery, but for mental recovery / learning how to eat / forming new habits / etc. I'm glad I took his advice, as it's given me the chance to appreciate how much everything is constantly changing in these first weeks. I just get the hang of eating one way, and we change the diet to add more things. My energy is up, then down again. One day something doesn't work, and the next day it does. My behavior doesn't change, but som…

Hello all, I am currently in my pre-op phase, doing a doctor supervised diet (I'm about halfway through the required 3 months). I have done the majority of my testing and have been cleared medically, so this is really the last step before insurance approval. I am from Cleveland, OH and having my surgery done at the Cleveland Clinic. I will be having Roux-En-Y surgery. Can anyone offer support/advice? I am worried about the rollercoaster of emotions afterwards, along with eating. I am already working on changing my eating habits...

Anyone do WLS with a spouse? DH and I are both getting ready for bypass, and we are going next week to schedule our surgeries. We plan to have me go first & then he will have surgery once I am healed enough because we have a little one at home. So I was wondering if 2 weeks will be enough time for me to feel up to chasing my little one around the house so that DH can get his surgery? Also I would love to hear any couples success stories.

Does anyone else have celiacs who can help or she'd some light? Tomm I start stage 3 which is pureed food. I'm excited about tuna. Lol !! I guess I need some encouragement that it gets better and nausea goes away. Cealey

So I had gastric bypass in September. I have lost a total of.70 pounds since. I started not feeling well a couple weeks ago..nausea lightheaded just overall feeling of being unwell. Went to my surgeon. Had an ultrasound and blood tests. Report came back... enlarged liver, high blood sugar and also sludge in my gall bladder. Frustrated. I thought my weight loss would help me more at this point. I did have an enlarged liver but.not the other probs before. Trudging on and hoping i didnt awaken something. Is sludge the beginning stage of gallstones?

I'm making a rare trip to the "big city" and would love to get suggestions on what you buy at Trader Joes. My surgery is Monday (2/16/15) and I'm set for my liquid phases (pre and post op) but am interested in their full liquid and pureed suggestions. Also any soft foods for post-purée stage. What do you use from Trader Joes?

I had my surgery on 1-16, Friday, and came home on Sunday. Really I think I healed quite well and quickly. I saw my Surgeon on 2-3 for my first check up and was down 30 lbs from the first day I met him on December 30th. Yes, I was a happy camper! Luckily someone at our local support group mentioned Bariatric Pal. I've been here daily since, this is my first post. From the day of my two week checkup until today I hadn't lost a single pound. My Surgeon did ok me to move to chewable foods because I was doing so well, but I'm still only eating 3 smalls meals, no more than 3 ounces each and no Snacks, no Protein drinks. I was really freaking out about not loosing, how …

Hi Everyone! I don't really know where to start this is my first time reaching out for this kind of support but here goes.... I started this journey in the end of October as a solution to a back problem I severely herniated a disc and couldn't get help without losing a significant amount of weight. My back surgeon suggested weight loss surgery to help me get out of pain. SO... I met with a surgeon and was told i needed to lose 50lbs to be eligible for surgery. I started dieting and went through the rigourous weight loss program and got a surgery date of March 4th. I lost 50lbs as of 2/4 which is when I met with my surgeon for my pre-op appointment. I was completely deva…

I'm new to this site - been lurking a bit and reading as much as I can about what I can expect both before and after surgery. I'm feeling anxious but excited. It felt like this day would never come. After making the decision to go ahead with Gastric Bypass back in August, I learned I needed to do 3 months of medically supervised weight loss. Those months flew by and, in hindsight, I think they will make me more successful after surgery - although I certainly didn't think so at the time. I went from my highest weight ever of 296 down to 258 during my MSWL. I'm really hoping for no complications tomorrow. I'm having a hernia repair at the same time. Looking forward…

Hi everyone!! This is the first time that I have been on the site since before my surgery on January 28th. Surgery went good, stayed in the hospital for two days and went home on Friday the 30th on a soft diet and very little pain. Saturday was great, I even walked a whole mile, I was feeling good Then....... When I went to get out of bed on Sunday Morning, I hurt my back, and when I say I hurt my back, it locked up on me and my husband had to call an ambulance to come get me because I could not move without screaming! This was the worst pain that I had ever experienced before. The ER gave me a shot and sent me home where I was basically recliner bound for four days…

Hi, I'm new here. Female, 49. I have been lurking since I started my journey, in September. Since that time, I have been making many changes, awaiting a date for my surgery. (Gastric Bypass). I had my surgical consult a week ago, and everything went very well. I feel very confident about my surgeon. He seems to think despite my having previous colon resection surgery that I am still a good candidate for what I believe he called a low limbic Gastric Bypass. I have made a lot of changes, which I notice everyone else has too. I just hit my 1 year smoke free anniversary I stopped drinking diet soda, gave up caffeinated coffee, I am drinking about 100 oz. Water daily, pa…

I'm 3 days post surgery feeling ok. Still taking pain med q 4-6 hours as needed. Still no real appetite but I'm having protein shakes,sf pudding, sf jello, decaf hot tea, & water. Will have cream of something soup for dinner. My stomach constantly makes loud rumbling noises. LoL Bathroom trips have been very productive. I think my hernia repair slows me down the most. It's hard getting out of bed. I'm off work until 3/2/15 so I plan on using that time to heal and get use to my new beginnings. I will post before & after pics as soon as I see some results. It's so beautiful here today in the sunshine state. No regrets! Have a blessed day everyone !

Ok friends, I'm at week 11 and have only lost 23 pounds. It's extremely difficult to get into the nutritionist at our program. I was supposed to have a 3 month check up with her but it will be February before I can get in to see her. I eat anywhere from 600-900 calories a day. I always get my Protein, (mostly from drinks) and I get my Water. I'm doing 30 minutes of cardio at least 2 days a week and I do a 30 minute routine of free weights 2/3 times a week. Any guesses as to what I'm doing wrong. I do not eat carbs hardly at all. I don't have any issues swallowing and no food has seemed to bother me so far, I've tried everything but steak and fried stuff. O…
