I've got one week of food freedom, going to have a few food funerals and generally enjoy my last week of being fat. Isn't that an oxymoron? Anyway. Pre op diet starts Monday. And with that comes TONS of housework to a) get my house super clean and organized before I go out of commission and take my mind off my growling belly Any tips for getting the house (and three kids and hubby!!) ready to fend for themselves for 4-5 days? I'm freaking out... Hubby isn't really up to the task so I want to make things as easy as possible. All laundry will be caught up, I will have the younger two outfits put together for a week's time. Aside from clothing, I can't figure out what…

If you told me in August that I would be where I am now I wouldnt have believed you. If you told me not only would I have reached my goal but dropped a few more pounds I would have said its not possible. The choice to have my "malfunctioned" band removed and converted to RNY was not an easy one, and it was a decision I had to make quickly, but it was by far the best decision I've ever made (aside from having WLS in general). This coming Feb (the 22nd) it will be 5 years since I had my original WLS, it may have taken me a little longer (and two beautiful boys in between) to reach my goal, but it was worth it. The pain, the tears, the sacrifices I've made, all for the be…

I'm one who doesn't have a pre-diet, so I seem to vacillate between wanting to eat all the things I'll never eat again, and wanting to practice my new skills--chewing very thoroughly, no Water with meals, drinking 8 glasses a day, focusing on Protein. Mostly I've been doing the practice, but I admit to having a red velvet donut from an amazing local place this weekend. I guess I'm starting to mourn food already. Thoughts?

Well, I survived the holidays. My surgery was November 6th, and as of today, I hit the 50 lb weight loss mark. Saturday was the hardest day so far with a big family gathering. I even had my first alcoholic drink since surgery. It must've been light on alcohol, because I was fine. How are y'all doing?

I'm starting clear liquids today. I am really excited about my new journey. I am anxious about the surgery, having dreams about it all night long. I will be happy when that part is over. Any advice on anything you wish you had known going in, either for the hospital or first weeks home?

I have nine days until surgery, so at about the point in the pre-surgery diet where things are getting easier. I've lost 6 pounds since starting the diet on 12/23, which is very motivating. I've been hitting the gym a ton too, which is helping me to finally approach the pre-surgery weight loss goal the surgeon set at our first appointment. The hardest part, by far, was the caffeine withdrawal headache. That was miserable. It wasn't until starting this phase of the journey that I realized that "head hunger" is a real thing, and very powerful. The first day of the pre-op diet, I hit McDonald's drive thru for Breakfast. I didn't even last two hours into the diet be…

Hi I had surgery Dec 18th. Rny. Everything is going great. My only concern is that I'm feet and legs and still retaining water. Which I understand due to how much fluid they gave me at the hospital. But the werid part is my lower stomach is swollen still. Under my belly button. It's slowly going down. But uncomfortable like I'm pregnant. Has this happened to anyone elese?

My surgery is Thursday January 8th. I'm so ready for this. I'm finally starting to get the nervous flutters. I keep my blog updated every few days but since I don't have any followers, yet, I don't get any comments. A pep talk would be kind of nice. Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom to share? You can check out my blog here www.findingsassy.com next week i'll be taking and posting all my before pictures. I know the pics won't be pretty but its got to be done.

Well my surgery was yesterday I am doing pretty good pain wise. I have been sleepy though and not able to get up as many times as I would like. My dr. Wrote me a prescription for at home for tylenol with codeine. Codeine normally makes me tired. What other choice of over the counter tylenol can I have, does the children's liquid have a lot of sugar, what about chewables? What have you used?

I am 1 yr 4 months post op from my ds. I once weighed 350lbs. Today I'm 165lbs. I still want to lose about 20-30lbs. But just curious if anyone who's post op at least as far as I am or even further out has had any issues with foods now that they didn't before. Such as hamburger. Starting about a month ago I started getting sick every time I'd eat hamburger meat. The next day bad stomach pains or in the toilet like crazy. Also throwing up right after eating hamburger meat and I don't over eat. Also anything dairy makes me sick now too and all this just started about a month ago. I thought it was from some new pills my Dr put me on. But I noticed it's just from the certain …

First week was horrible with pain and bloating. Thanks to recommendations from friends here I got past that. Went back to work yesterday. It wasn't too bad. But I got really tired and took a nap in my car at lunch and another when I got home from work. That really messed with my Fluid intake. Tough to drink when you are asleep. :-) Have been nauseated, tired, weak and shaky all day today. Dr. office thinks its a bit of dehydration. Anyone else get dehydrated? How do you manage to take in fluids when you feel bad or are truly sick? I love naps, especially on cold rainy days...must I give them up for the cause?

Hi all my name is Tam, I'm 34 and my gastric bypass surgery is booked for the 23 Jan.... I'm excited but very nervous and scared about the what ifs etc.... I know I need this to be 100% happy with myself but I don't have very much support just a family member.... I kinda stressed myself out reading all the side effects of the surgery and almost want to cancel it...... I'd be so greatful to have a buddy or mentor or both... I'm from Australia but anywhere in the world would be fine... Just be good to have someone ease my mind Thanks in advance ☺

Hello folks, at my heaviest I scaled at 312pds and my lowest 147. Well in Jan of 07 I was blessed to have RNY in NY and spent a lot of time afterwards enjoying the new body yet I knew deep down inside I was not sure of what was going on. A sought help and by that time I realized it, it was 5 years later and I was gaining weight. A lot of weight. Last month I found myself scaling at 242lbs and it felt devastating to the point I cropped myself from my brothers birthday pictures Not to look at myself again. So, with the notion of once again and for all taking back control of my own lazyness and mental drag to get back my health I'm in here and not leaving. I've felt alone f…

I'm 8 1/2 weeks out. My Nut has instructed to make my 4 oz meal last 30 minutes. If I don't over eat, and it doesn't hurt to eat fast, what is the purpose of eating slow. I read that it makes you stay fuller longer but that doesn't matter to me because I just eat when I'm supposed to and I stay within my range of where I'm supposed to be.

I had surgery last Wednesday and I wished I never did it, my wife had hers on December 1, and she wished she never did it, I'm guessing it's the emotional stress from not eating what we crave, or its the realization we did this not as a short term thing but that it's forever. We are both depressed. Not sure if anyone else has felt this way?

My wife is 3 weeks out from surgery, has lost 47 pounds but has been having some issues as of recently. She started getting this severe pain in her right lower back/side, we think it could be constapation, she has went 3 times in the last 22 days, I ended up taking her to the ER and everything checked out normal from the blood work and cat scans. She has tried over the counter laxitives with no evail. She was originally losing 2 pounds a day, now she has gained 6 pounds, any ideas?

My breath is offensive! I brush my teeth and "swish" with Listerine every day but I think my diet is contributing to my foul breath. My husband even said something this morning. Has anyone experienced this and what have you done....surely with Christmas next week and time with family, I don't want to knock anyone over with festering odor.

Hi everyone I am having surgery on December 9th! Looking for some other surgery buddies. I am only 28, not technically 30, but I have been married for 9 years and have 3 kids, so I really feel like I fit into this category a little better than the 20's group because of my life experiences. I hope that is alright.

I have surgery 4 weeks from today, which means I've had to start the process of applying for medical leave at work. Luckily, I work for a big company and we contract out to a faceless "leave management company", so I don't have to actually explain to anyone I know what is going on. Still I've had to tell my boss that I'm having surgery on January 6 (yay!) and will be out for 6-8 weeks. He respectfully asked if I wanted to share any information about what was going on, and I respectfully declined to do so. This is a weird feeling because I am generally very close with my boss and we share way more than we should, but I just don't want to go there with him. It's a we…

This is a crappy topic, but here goes: I am almost 5 days post-op from R&Y, and have graduated from liquid poop to dark, tarry, foul smelling, stools. Seriously, I told my husband he should probably leave the house for a few days. I know this can be one of the signs of Intnal bleeding, but couldn't it also just be leftover blood that was inside me from the surgery? Everything else is going great. I was kept in hospital for three days, and came home late yesterday afternoon. I am eating and drinking ok, and have little pain except when getting up and down. No energy yet, but that will return in a week, or two. Anyone have any crappy problems like this that took c…

Hello - so far my recovery has gone really well. I've been more sleepy this week but I think that diving back into work and life is the explanation for that. I have a long, long ways to go and would love to connect with some other folks who are in the same spot on this journey. I have my next class on Monday and I'll get to advance to more food choices. Which is good. I'm not necessarily having cravings or experiencing hunger, it just seems to get boring eating cottage cheese, drinking Protein shakes, pudding, hummus, etc. I'm excited to have real food and I think those first few swallows might be kind of terrifying. We'll see! So far I haven't had any naseau or …

I am six months after gastric bypass. Occasionally, I have a stretch of a few days where I can't get anything in. The past week has been one of chronic nausea. I am so confused. I don't know why on such days I can barely get in a shale and a tea. Everything else just sickens me if I even think of scrambling an egg. I don't know what this means, and I sure hope it is hormonal. I kinda wish I can blame everything on that... but I think the pouch is simply weird, so I'm wondering about others. I'm tired of drinking tea all week.

Hey, I've got some strong stomach muscles, probably some of the strongest in my body from years and years of singing, performing voice lessons yadda yadda yadda.... How long was it before you felt like you could/sing perform with no problems with pain? My surgery date got moved and its backed up close to a performance with a choral concert in which I'll have a sizeable solo - like a week or 2 out from surgery. Am I crazy or being unrealistic thinking I can sing? What say you?

I am 5 weeks post-op and am having trouble adding the extra Protein to my diet. The soft foods are going well, but I can no longer tolerate the Protein shakes. The smell and consistency make me ill. I mix mine with milk and that helps, but very little. How can I add more protein to my diet. I have had a couple of suggestions, but am unsure if I can use them now. One is a Peanut Butter protein powder(PB2) and mixing it with nectar chocolate Truffle. It sounds as those things are on the restricted list, I know they are protein powders. I called my nutritionist, but so far now call back. Any help?
