I am trying to plan my coming home after surgery. I'm having gastric bypass. Do I really need someone with me that night?

OK. I'm about 85% sure I'm choosing the bypass, but I keep hearing that the sleeve removes the part of the stomach that secretes ghrenelin, the hunger hormone, while the bypass leaves the stomach to secrete hormones, enzymes that aid in digestion etc etc..... On this site, sleevers always chime in about the ghrenelin and how they're never hungry. Tell me the bypass decreases hunger too? I know everyone is different and most successful folks can distinguish head hunger from real hunger, but walk me through a typical day of hunger sensations of a bypass patient. Please and thank you.

I am 5 months post op and the past couple of days I have been feeling so full. I had a couple bites of steamed fish yesterday at 10 am and couldn't eat again until last night at 7 and again only couple bites and felt like I was going to explode. This morning I just had a tablespoon of peanut butter and I feel like i have eaten an entire thanksgiving dinner plus dessert! What could be going on?? I can't even drink I'm so full. I do keep burping hoping to feel less like I was going to explode.

Well, months of planning and hard work are about to pay off. I am scheduled for my gastric bypass on 10/27 at 7 am. I'm proud to say God helped me get from 303 to 238 as of this morning. I'm 5'6" so that puts my BMI at 38 .4, still obese, but a lot better than 48.9, where I started. I'd almost be tempted to continue losing without the surgery except I have lost more than 100 pounds twice before, even became a certified personal trainer at one point, and my body always creeps up to its set point if I'm not super diligent, or have a health issue, or have a life crisis. The surgery will help me be more diligent for long enough for the eating habits and lifestyle changes…

I am 4 months post-op and having some issues. I'm currently experiencing depression/moodiness/anxiety, fatigue, hair loss, severe muscle cramping in my legs and sometimes hands, and have just discovered a horizontal ridge on each of my thumb nails. I also have bags/dark circles under my eyes. I've lost 60 lbs, and am down to 176 and still losing about 15 lbs a month. My job has felt incredibly stressful this year and I think it is because I'm not handing stress well, not so much because the job has changed. Although, it is a somewhat stressful job. My daily routine goes like this: 5:45 am - wake up, take meds including nuvigil to help me stay awake 7:00 am - go …

  10. Started by HYCIERRA,

This may seem like a silly question, but is it possible for us to still get the flu? And if so, what would it be like? I'm talking the stomach flu, vomiting in particular. I'm 4 months post surgery and all is well, but was just curious. In the past, vomiting for me has been violent. I've gotten food "stuck" once since surgery causing me to vomit, but it was nothing like in the past. Obviously the pouch holds nothing in comparison to my old stomach, so hopefully it wouldn't be too terrible. Just a curious question.

I am fighting to keep my weight at 160lbs now. My surgery date was 2/26/14 a bit over 7months out now. Has anyone out there had to deal with a situation like this?

I am not asking because I want to hurry an lose weight. I am asking because I am trying to plan clothes out for a trip I earned with my work that is about 2 months after my surgery. I know everyone is different I just want to have an idea of what everyone's weight loss was after about 6-8 weeks of post-op. Or if you bought new clothes at all at that point were you down 1 size, none or more. I just want to try to have some clothes that will fit without falling off without having to buy stuff in Aruba. Thanks in advance. I am looking forward to my journey beginning. :-) My starting weight is 255ish and I am about 5'6"

Why did you choose gastric bypass. I just learned my insurance doesn't cover gastric sleeve after 6 month preop appt and diet. So now my choice is lap bad or gastric bypass. Those are the only 2 my insurance will pay. I always though gastric bypass is too invasive and scary for some reasons. Any help?

I am so ticked off about this band! My surgeon no longer does the band, due to bad experiences that the patients have had. I am a diabetic and my Endro recommended that I have the by-pass to try to get my diabetes under better control. Now they tell me that I have to start all over again, and this whole process will take 9 to 12 months. That is really depressing, and ticks me off. It was not my fault that this band did not work, they forced me to remove all the Fluid, and won't refill. Just ranting I know, but has anyone else has this happen?

After 2 days more I did the liquid diet with shakes. Then yesterday I felt great, no pain full of energy. I walked 2 miles far from home and my husband took me to Subway because they had soup. I put protein powder in the potato soup. I ate 3 spoons with no chunks, within minutes I had my first dump symptoms. It was terrible, it scared my kids they thought I was dying. I am looking for a Post-Op person who is female and lives in Northern California this is VERY ideal for me because I need someone to be a big support for me. My family is against the surgery because they think it's dangerous. I already know about the danger but I am tired of being fat, tired and sick all the time. For me, it's time for a change and I thought the Gastric Bypass would be my sense of hope and to be another tool to help me besides diet and exercise. If anybody lives in Northern California and wants to be a su…

I'm 16 months post op and haven't lost a thing in 6 months! I've been having a terrible time with low blood sugar (they think I might have reactive hypoglycemia). Whenever I get these lows I feel ravenous and eat more than I normally would! I feel like an epic failure. I want to get back on track and I've tried, but every time I try to eat like I did before having these low blood sugar episodes I get the episodes again. It's a vicious cycle! I'm discouraged and ready to give up on ever being a normal weight again.

  39. I had the the band in 2007, had tons of complications and had it removed and got Sleeved in Dec of 2010. I did great, lost all my excess weight (110 pounds) then got pregnant, did great in the pregnancy but since having the baby 18 months ago I have gained back 50 pounds. Can't seem to get it off no matter what. Can't seem to stick to my diet. It's like before I was sleeved..no restriction whatsoever, plus bad acid reflux. So I saw my surgeon today to ask about getting resleeved and he let me know that resleeving is high risk for leakage and he recommends gastric bypass I am freaked out by that. I have to have a swallow upper GI xray coming up to look at my sleeve…

  40. In 2009 I had the LapBand, in 2013 I had it removed due to issues. I decided to get the Vertical Sleeve Gastrostomy. After many issues, I saw a surgeon today, She said my issues may never end. I have two choices. To stay as is it, and deal, or try. Or to revise to Bypass and possibly have some improvement, OR remain the same. She mentioned because this would be my 3rd surgery, I have a HIGH chance of complications. I am just wondering if anyone has had all 3 procedures?! At this point it isn't about weight loss, HOWEVER, I want to, but its about my general health and my quality of life. Thank you in advance for your input. -Rxtine

A week before RNY I figured out I am not able to tolerate whey Protein. Nausea and multiple bathroom trips are not the stomach flu after all. I am lactose intolerant but I drink Lactaid milk without a problem. What am I supposed to eat for Protein shakes. Anyone in the same predicament? Suggestions? I have been waiting for my NUT to return my call but no luck so far.

Hi there, I am sure everyone of you that made this choice had a reason. Maybe your doctor choose, maybe you did.. I want to know why you chose the Gastric Bypass over the Sleeve procedure. My doctor won't make the choice for me.. I have asked what his medical opinion is and he just shakes his head and states that it's up to me. He thinks I am bordering both procedures. I need to make up my mind before it's submitted to insurance. They're waiting for me now. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you!
