I am amazingly calm about the upcoming surgery. I am at 7:15 am have to be at the hospital at 5:00am. I am having robotic surgery. I am doing this with my son, who lives in Flordia he is scheduled for surgery in October. Some how I was able to get scheduled quicker even though he started the process before me. I look forward to discussion with you all through the next year. Best wishes.

I'm positive that I had pretty bad apnea before my RNY. I know that weight loss can make it much better, but I'm debating about asking my doctor to refer me for a sleep study before the end of the year since I've reached my out of pocket max on my insurance due to my surgery. Thoughts?

  5. UgH!!! I'm reading so many food suggestions from other posts on here and half the stuff others are allowed to eat aren't on my approved foods list!! SO frustrating!!! WHY can't I have creamed Soups???? My nut says because it just goes right through you. So many people are able to eat mashed potatoes and gravy yet we can't, nut says because there's no nutritional value to potatoes. That goes for life long stage too. So why is it ok for others to eat it then?? I'm really curious what the statistics look like

I'm having trouble with the first few bites of food getting stuck mostly just at dinner. Then the waves of pain from it so I have to mage myself throw it up to clear it and then I can continue dinner with my husband and kids with no further problems. This happens almost every night and it's so frustrating. I'm just about to resort to protein drink only for dinner. Yes, I might be rating too big of bites and yes I might be eating too fast but I don't eat dinner Amy differently than I do lunch or breakfast and sometimes it's even the same foods. So yes, I know I need to eat smaller bites and mostly not eat one bite after another but is there anyone else with this problem w…

Well, it's been a long road, but my surgery day is Wednesday the 17th. My issue, these God awful shakes!!! I've never been a milky type of drink drinker, but this has been my big thing of dread! The shakes! I understand the importance, and Im going to do my best, but to hear that they have to be at room temp is enough to make me hurl just thinking about it. Any suggestions???

  11. Hi, my name is Lizzee and I just had surgery 2 weeks ago today. It's been a crazy ride but also a happy one. I'm so new to this and am looking for someone or several people that can help me along the way. I have a lot of questions but also need the encouragement as well. So hopefully, I can get some help here and continue this wonderful experience with those that have had that experience. Thanks so much and hope to meet some great people too.

I'm not sure why I got so hungry this morning but I was ravenous. I felt faint and couldn't concentrate. I ate a snack that was probably on the big side but then realized I was still "starving"....so I woofed down another too big sNack. I went back to work satisfied but a little worried I could eat that much. 45 minutes later I started throwing up. What I learned from this. 1. Could have tried drinking water. 2. I should have eaten my snack and then waited 30-45 min. I wouldn't have died even if I thought I would Anyway. Thought I would share.

  14. Prior to my bypass which was on 9/04/14 I was using a CPAP mask for several months and adjusted to it quite easily, and tolerated it for the entire night. However, after my bypass I cannot tolerate it at all. I have tried wearing it numerous times but wake up horribly nauseated. The nausea goes away when I turn the CPAP machine off. What is going on? My sleep apnea couldn't have disappeared this fast....or could it? Let me know if anyone else is having or had this issue.

I've always wanted to have long hair, but my hair's so thick, I always get frustrated and cut it before it gets too long. I've decided that I'm going to get hair extensions when I reach my goal, which is about 35 pounds away. About 2 1/2 months ago, I started having the obligatory hair loss that accompanies surgery. I think it's starting to taper off now, but I'm worried about getting extensions in a few months. If I'm not rapidly losing hair when I am ready to get the extensions, will it be okay? I know this is probably a silly question, but I have absolutely no experience with hair extensions.

Hi, All. I have the lap band placed 2009, 10cc. I had very minimal weight loss even though I was doing everything I was supposed to do. I only lost 23 lbs in the 5 months it was working for me. Having 2 children in that span has not done my body well, especially my last child since I was sick with him for the first half of my pregnancy, seriously vomitting at least once a day until 25 weeks pregnant, then have it return at 9 months pregnant. Since I have had him, I had increased problems with my band and am now in the works of getting the RNY. I am seriously scared out of my mind, the original reason for me to get the lap band was the fact that my intestines would stay ri…

Anyone have a very stressful job and if so, did you take a few days off or day before surgery to prepare and relax? I was not planning on taking off work no more than needed and only planned the day of surgery and my recovery time. Anyone dealt with work related stress during the process before, during and after surgery, if so how did you deal with it?

So I am 3 weeks post op and overall feel pretty decent. Problem I have had since coming home is this regurgitation crap. I don't always do it but it happens at least every other day. Varies in what I am eating as well. I am on soft food so nothing I am eating should be blocking anything. basically my diet has consisted of soups! Anyway - I get the pain in the middle of my chest almost like a trapped burp - then I just "throw up" for the next 20-30 minutes. It doesn't feel like its coming from my actual stomach - more like it never made it down my throat. I had a few days of this last week and ended up calling my Dr who wanted me to go in for an upper GI to check for stric…

I saw my surgeon in July and they do not perform Gastric Plication and he told me that he recommends Gastric Bypass. But I'M SO SCARED!!! One minute I want to do it, but then I don't want to do it because it's way more risky than the other surgeries. The main thing that scares me to death is that I will die, not if, I WILL. I'm scared I will die on the table and I don't die there, then I will die from complications down the road. I'm also scared because my insides will be re-arranged and worried about having a different inside. This is probably why we need to see a therapist before surgery, right? I have had LapBand before, but I wasn't even scared back then, I guess bec…

  30. Hello, I am two weeks post band removal and wish I had done this in one procedure. My surgeon said that he could do it in one procedure but it would be a double risk. I wanted to be as safe as possible, so I'm doing this in two. For those of you that had or will have a two-part procedure, How long did you wait between surgeries. I am so ready to do it now. My incisions are doing okay, only one is still a little sore but my stomach looks swollen and puffy. Also, was anyone else's puffy? and for how long. Just curious to know. THANKS!

You need to be able to cut it with a plastic baby spoon, or I won't be able to chew it. :-) Works for large buffets at conference. Just bring your baby spoon and let the feeding commence.

I have been having nausea and, vomiting since 2 weeks post op. I had a stricture that kept coming back and had to be dilated 3 times and I'm only 3months post op. I have been in and out of the hospital several, times as well. I was in the hospital 2 weeks ago for over 2 weeks. I was unable to take anything by mouth. They put a picc line in and started me on TPN (IV nutrients). Thy had to pull my picc line a week later cause it went bad. I was eating a clear/full liquid diet. Now I'm vomiting again and this time I'm having sever abdominal pain as well. I'm unable to keep much down and it all hurts even water. If you are eating enough? Too much? Too little? I just started puréed today I had my surgery Monday August 28, 2014. I am feeling great! I'm down 30 pounds but I feel like I'm scared to eat because I'm not hungry so how will I know i'm full?

I just realized that for the first time in years, I'm no longer 200 pounds overweight. whoa... mindblowing.

  40. I am now 4 weeks post op and I'm supposed to still be on puree's. I wont lie, I have no longer been able to stick to them. As soon as I puree something it makes me sick to my stomach and I end up not eating. I cant take any more tuna, scrambled eggs, puree everything, its nauseating. When I make taco's for my family I'll have a few small bites of it and chew really well, same goes with sloppy joe meat or anything else I can chew until its soft. I see my surgeon on Tuesday the 2nd and from there I'll only advance to SOFTS, then have to wait another MONTH until I can go to the "stabilize" phase. To be honest I think this is a bit extreme and I'm amazed at talking to other…

  42. So I just hit my 3 month post op point and my hair is thinning out on schedule. I'm a little torn between cutting it or ride'n this out. I've always had this vision to be this slender African American cute girl with long hair. I've been growing it since 2009 so its between my bra and mid waist line. I'm thinking maybe I should ride it out.. increase my Biotin and just hope it'll start slowing down and filling in and keep wearing my clip ins to help make it fuller. But... It may never fill in nice. Or.... I was going to cut it in a sexy A-Line Bob and dye it jet black which will make it look fuller. A new hair cut to go with my new body. What do you guys think?…

They taste like fruit flavored chalk!! I can hardly get them down. Are there any alternatives to these chalky type vitamins?? Going forward, will pills be an option? I don't see myself taking these nasty things beyond finishing the bottle. Thanks!

$58,000 Do you know what yours was? (I don't want to know what you personally paid just the overall cost of your surgery.) I was just shocked when I saw the bill, especially when we were told about $29,000 and we'll "get what we paid for" which I absolutely did not. :/ It's sickening.

  48. I am scheduled and all set for Gastric Bypass Surgery on Sept. 8th (Monday) and I get a call today at 4:50p from my surgeons office saying that I have not been approved by my insurance company. Apparently my surgeons office asks for prior approval for a hernia repair just incase you have one. My insurance didn't like that part at all and wanted to go back and forth about it. So I was told that I would have to wait until Monday morning (I'm supposed to be at the hospital at 12p) and they will call me and let me know if my surgery is happening as scheduled or if we have to reschedule. I had band to RNY on Jan. 16th 2014. I am currently 7 months post op and have only lost 52 pounds. I have seen people losing 80-100 pounds in the first 7 months..I'm doing what I'm supposed to and exercising like crazy..I've noticed lots and lots of inches gone..pants and shirts are way to big but my surgeon says I'm not where I should be. I'm 196 and she wants me at 185 by the time I see her next month. This has definitely added extra pressure and stress..I'm afraid I'm going to revert to "stress eating" again afraid I won't meet that goal..is anyone else having the "scale us evil" feelings? Any suggestions on losing these 15 pounds by October? HELP!!!!

I am about 6 weeks post-op gastric bypass and have a fun trip planned to NYC. So far everything has been going pretty well with my diet progression.. I pretty much have my go-to staples: egg beaters, tilapia, shredded chicken, Beans, shaved turkey, cottage cheese, etc, as my meals. I am nervous about having all of my meals out, I have only been out to eat once since surgery. Any suggestions? It is NYC after all so I want to enjoy myself but not have any issues.
