I just had my one month revision anniversary and I have to say, I couldn't be happier! I am thrilled to have the band out and that uncomfortable port gone. My recovery has been smooth and I'm feeling great. And, in one month, I've lost 22 lbs! Hurray! I was one of those people that was terrified of the RNY surgery. I was scared of the surgery, the potential pain, and the adjustment to RNY from being in banded life for so long. However, I have found this recovery to be much easier than when I originally had my band placed. So, I'm jumping for joy and so glad I went through with the revision. :-)

So I'm just a gastric baby. 1 week post-op. I'm only managing 350-450 calories per day right now as I get into the swing of things. I think my initial goal is somewhere between 7-900 calories. Have many of you noticed that eating the low end of calories stalls or minimizes your losses? By eating at the top of your calorie range, do you feel you have a better weight loss? I hear eating too few calories places you on starvation mode, which if like to avoid. Just curious hire your body's respond to calorie intake

  4. I had a laparoscopic salpingo-oopherectomy yesterday, waiting for surgeon to call me, but she had no clue about roux en y to begin with, so not sure if she will just tell me to go to the ER. Has anyone experienced that same pain like you had on the left side in the area they did the work, after a non-related surgery? Someone suggested its from the gas they pump into the stomach cavity.

  5. I've finally figured it out. Anytime I have ever tried a protein shake (any variety over 15 grams), my blood pressure explodes, and I pass out. To prepare for surgery, I cooked protein packed foods and stored them in my freezer so that I won't have to purchase any protein powders. I wonder if anyone else discovered that they too were extremely sensitive to protein products?

I have 3 beautiful teenage daughters and a handsome husband. I am a little nervous about my scheduled surgery on August 9, 2013 for the RNY. I began this journey in January 2013. My first weigh in was 285 lbs. I actually got approved faster than I thought. I thought it was at least a 12 month process. On May, 9, 2013 I had my gall bladder surgery. Really thought after that it would still be pushed back. BCBS Texas moved fast on this. My last weigh in was June 19, 2013 and I weigh in at 260 don't want to know my current weight until I go for pre op. I have a concern for the liquid diet. What are some of the things that I can drink for that. I know I have to get the Protein…

  10. I'm almost done with all of my pre op testings and so far so good, but the blood work has shown I am Vitamin D deficient and that I have some sort of blood clotting disorder (I cant remember the name) and I am being referred to a hematologist. Has anyone else had this diagnosis before surgery? Did they have to take extra precautions (transfusion on hand, etc..). I've only suffered issues with my platelet count during my pregnancies so to know this is clearly an issue I have all the time scares me a little. 2.5 weeks until I go in for revision surgery. I'm scared. I'm unable to eat almost anything at this point, my stomach hurts all the time and I'm just praying for time…

  12. Hello, I may as well say I am new here. Did not visit or participate much when I had the lap-band on 06/28/11. Have had a hard time with the lap-band. Did loose 40 lb's, even though I never got above a 5ml fill. Had a lot of problems with GERD and had to stay below 5ml's. Now I have damage to my esophagus and the insurance approved a revision, so here I go. The RNY has always scared me, and that is why I did not have it done the first time. But, here I go, having it done now. I am looking for advise on how to handle all the changes that are heading my way, and how to get my husband and sons to understand what it will be like. After all this time, my husba…

  15. Apparently I am a bit strange in that I don't want my family hanging out after I have surgery. My boyfriend is mad at me because I told him that he can come for the surgery and afterwards I want him to go home and care for my furbabies. I am the type of person that if I'm in pain or sick I just want to be left alone and I have a habit of being a complete b*tch after anesthesia. (I don't mean to be...). I don't want my family to see me all gassy and doped up on pain meds, nor do I want them in the room when they are checking incisions and whatnot. Plus I feel like he will be better off at home if I'm getting up every two hours to walk. I'm not trying to be mean or insensit…

I came home the evrning of day 5. Today day 7 sometime between 3 and 5:30am I had an abcess start to leak. I woke up wet. Hopped in the shower, called my surgeon and go in this afternoon to have it taken care of. That's the only part of me that hurts. Well aside from the fact that on surgery day I was 198.2 and I'm now 223; yes im retaining fluids like crazy. I was npo in the hospital and throwing up blood so they were pushing fluids continuously.

My question is what is the difference between those foods and say... cottage cheese pulverized in my ninja or cream of wheat made extra soupy? Is there a difference? Wouldn't it digest the same as the cream soup and broth? Is there a risk in altering my full liquid diet with other foods as long as they were full liquid consistency and non-spicy or hard to digest foods? I am almost 3 months out of RNY and I recently started to lose lots of hair. I mean it is baaaaad...I brush my hair multiple times every day otherwise all the lose hair will end up on my shirt I made peace with this, not much I can do (yeah yeah take my protein and my supplements, it doesn't help), so my question is: WHEN DOES IT STOP?????? When will it slow down? If you started to lose your hair around 3 months out, when did it start to grow back? I am afraid if I lose my hair as fast as I do, I will be bald in 2 months... Oh and for the record I have lots of hair and pretty thick, and I just had it trimmed (stupid me!) for the summer before the hairloss started. I…

I just found this great blog post that has some ideas about how to deal with haters -- those negative people who like to tell you what they think. http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2014/07/10/how-to-deal-with-haters 1) Understand that judgement is inevitable. 2) Consider the source. If you are getting criticized for your new lifestyle by somebody who is out of shape, unhappy, overweight, and generally miserable, it’s probably not worth your time and effort to worry about it! 3) Get them on board (if they are truly wanting to support you) 4) Consider how you spend your most valuable asset: time. We have a finite amount of time on this planet, and you have 100% contr…

Hi, my husband had gastric bypass surgery on June 26. Even though it was done laparoscopically, the surgeon left a two inch incision open on his left side. We have been changing the dressing, etc. and yesterday he had his 10 day post-op appointment. She is sending out a home health nurse finally to help us with the wound because she says it should be packed and changed daily (we were just covering it; nobody told us anything about packing it when he left the hospital!). Anyway for the past two days he is having bad cramping pain on the left side, under the incision. The doctor said it was normal, but he's hurting pretty bad. We had to get more narcotic medicine s…

This is an expensive trip, well about $5k including airfaire so it was going to be our only vacation of the year for us as a couple. He's going without me. I'm about 16 months out and having a tough time..I've gone back to hoarding food, even if I don't eat it I just want it there. Going to dunks and getting coffee rolls and donuts for Breakfast, snacking on popcorn at night. Just doing it all wrong basically, and I've gained about 9 pounds. I want to be healthy, and skinny, and I don't want to waste this opportunity. Anyone hit this bump? I just feel like a waste of space, and a disappointment and I'm getting horribly depressed again. I had my orientation, first sugeon appt and one of six required weigh ins with my PCP. I should be finished everything early December but figure it will take me to January to get approved and scheduled. ( Just in time to have to pay my deductible.) I really like the idea of Winter time surgery. I am very into gardening and hope to be much more physically fit for Dpring gardening. I get goosebumps of excitement thinking about it.
