Okay, so I had laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery 4/16/14 and the only issues I have had or am having so far are bouts of gas pain head hunger emotional issues from my divorce with food being grossed out by my JP Drain (I get a little queasy when I empty it and cannot wait for it to be gone on 4/23/14) friends and family feeling guilty about eating without me mild insomnia itching at incision sites On the upside, going into surgery, I had severely uncontrolled T2D with blood glucose readings averaging 375-425 (with 3 daily doses of meds helping to lower it to 200-325) and my readings have not been over 150 since the surgery. Hello! I was banded in 09, lost 45 lbs in the first 6 months, started having severe acid reflux and port pain. Dr. said the band has to go. I now weigh 215 and due to my diabetes, my Dr. has decided that RNY is the best solution for me. I'm just concerned about losing too much. Has anyone else had RNY or going to have RNY that weigh 220 or less? I'd love to hear from you.

  4. I have been on the optifast diet now for almost two weeks (tomorrow) and have lost 32 lbs. I have one week before the RNY procedure and think that perhaps I can continue doing it this way. I started at 310 lbs. And although not the most enjoyable experience...the shakes are doable. Any thoughts?

I am 18 days post op. Surgery was on Monday, April 14. I lost 10 during two week liquid diet. Had surgery, was in hospital two days. Went home, rested some for a couple days. Was back to work the following Monday. I have done great. I feel fabulous. The time in the hospital was restful and I walked a lot. I was very independent and never let anyone help me do anything. I moved myself from the surgical gurney to my hospital bed when they took me to a room from recovery. I truly believe this will to do it myself and to get moving has had everything to do with my fast recovery. My stamina is not fully up to par yet...but I am doing super. I have lost 21 lbs since surgery …

I had surgery on Feb 26, 2014. As of yesterday "Weigh Day" I have lost 43 lbs and over 23 inches. I have also lost diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I have lost my walking cane that I have had to use for over a year because of knee and back pain. I have lost the size clothing I was wearing when I had surgery and the size smaller fits loosely. I have GAINED the ability to use my exercise bicycle, being able to cross my legs again, wear my wedding ring again, better health and fitness, more confidence and self worth, the ability to go for short walks with my husband and dog Pearl...and so much more..... Life is good........

My BMI is 51 so it seem like a good surgery for me but it concerns me that you all don't seem to talk about it. Help!

My anxiety levels have been through the roof lately and it's all revolved entirely around work. I've always had stress from work but never so much anxiety. I was shaking like crazy, crying nonstop (so opposite from my usual self), and having horrible panic attacks. My friend said she had anxiety issues after losing over a 100 pounds. I'm just wondering if this is common.

Hello my fellow revisioners. How are you doing since converting from the band to Gastric bypass or sleeve? I'm wondering if what I'm experiencing is typical or not. Strangely since I've had the RNY I haven't felt like I have any restriction. I'm wondering if it's because I'm used to the band. For example. I remember in the hospital when I had to take sips of water I was very worried at first and sipped very slowly but much to my surprise I had no problem drinking. I've noticed no matter what I eat or drink I don't feel restricted in any way. I tried a taco today with meat, cheese, onion, tomato, taco sauce on a shell and although I ate it slowly I had no problem eating it…

Pretty much all of my extra weight is in the stomach/hip area. Feeling great and trying to start jogging. Hoping that will lean out the middle section. I have Gerd/ Barrett's Esophagus. Do you think I will able to travel there 17 days post op? I will be on the puréed stage. If I am showing any signs of surgery, what can I say to cover why I'm in pain it whatever is to come? Thanks everyone!

  20. I had a Lap-band put in March 2009. I was 227 day of surgery. That was down from high of 299 due to divorce, change of life style, and required weight loss by insurance company before band surgery approved. By August 2010 I was down to 136. In between I had lots and lots of vomiting. I say without vomiting I would not have lost weight. I also ended up with a massive lung infection and emergency surgery on left lung, which was 95% full of pus, infection probably caused by aspirating vomit and my essentially being malnourished due to not really eating much. I had so many adjustments and never felt like I reached the "sweet spot." Then I started gaining weight. I cu…

Hi, I have a Band that I've had for 7 years. Time went by and I slowly stopped changing my eating habits and I gained weight. Pretty stable for most of the time, but recently I've gained a LOT of weight. I'm strongly focused on my food addiction. You know, "I HAVE to have this or that so I don't go crazy.!" behaviours. .And I'm doing surprisingly well. I have a LCSW-R that I work with, she's a huge help. Anyway, I "think" my pouch has shrunk because I find I cannot eatan average person's full meal, like I used to. I'm losing weight, and respecting the Band again. I'm changing Surgeons, and will be discussing with him about having the RNY. I've been a member of Bariatri…

Hi, I had revision from band to gastric bypass on 8/1/13 and I am still struggling getting my Protein, liquids and calories. On a good day, I get the minimum (48 oz liquid 45-60 protein but approx. 500-600 cal). I just feel too full and can't fit anything else in. Getting these amount is a real painful struggle. I did have a recent complication of a hernia with my intestines twisted up and around the pouch. During that whole month of dire pain I was only getting 300-400 calories. I am healed up now, but I still struggle like I did before the complication getting 500-600 calories. Is there anyone else that struggles because they are just too darn full all the time…

I'm probably about 1 month out from having surgery-- and I'm evaluating everything that goes in my mouth at this point-- from a counting calorie perspective but also from a "will this fit on my life going forward" perspective. Today, we grilled for the first time this spring, and it hit me that I'll likely be in full liquid and soft food stages during peak grill season. Any suggestions for things I can put on the grill? Likely there are things for soft foods...? If not, I'll easily deal because compliance to new diet comes first, but it would be nice to have some social time with my friends and family.... Ideas?

Today is my second day of the preop diet. Yesterday was rough because they also had me starting the chewable Vitamins. Everything was so sweet I actually threw up the vitamins the first time. The evening dose I managed but felt nauseous. Add to that the Calcium chews, the Iron and the Vitamin D chewie. Ughhh with the shakes it was way too much sweet stuff. I am not a sweets person. I like plain Water, black coffee and unsweet tea. Dessert is what you have at birthdays and holidays. Bread and salty now we are talking. I can't eat fried though it makes me run to the restroom. Unfortunately that does not mean I do not like fries once in a while. Today I added unflavored …

Hi everyone, I have been stalking these forums for months and now I am so happy to be a part of it! I'm having RNY gastric bypass on May 21st, and I have been taking doxycycline for about 1 1/2 months for acne, and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was not good to take it before surgery, or if it shouldn't affect my surgery. I had read somewhere that doxycycline can increase liver enzymes? I am not sure how valid that statement is but it has caught my attention knowing that we want to shrink our liver as much as possible before surgery. Do you guys have any personal experiences with doxycycline before surgery?

So yesterday was not a good day. We're talking a particularly not good day. The problems had nothing to do with wls but it would be fair to say that the day would have had to improve just to suck. So I get up this morning still feeling a little down in the dumps. Then I'm checking my email and I run across this. Pretty sure that I could NEVER do this but I gotta say, the sheer fun of it put a smile on my face that is still there. I think I've watched this thing three or four times. Hope it puts a smile on your face as well!!

Hi there, I have a question for post op and veteran by pass patients. I have a major sweet tooth and although I know the focus is to live a healthy life style I was just curious if sweets are out of the question forever or if you are able to handle them in moderation (such as having one chocolate and not the whole box). I know everyone's body handles sugars differently, i just want to know if you personally experience dumping from small amounts of sugar. Thanks in advance!!!!

  32. Hi everyone, I'm looking for someone who may have fallen off track for a bit as I have. I had my surgery in Nov 2010, last yr I started gaining weight. My beloved Calico kitty that I raised from a kitten died at 15yrs old. I never truly recovered from her passing, I started eating things that were not good for me nutritionally, big surprise there, right? I have always worked out, and continued to do so. I even power walked, and went to the gym the day she died. But a few months later I lacked the initiative to motivate myself to go 6 days a week. I live in New England so snow, and cold is a factor when doing outdoor cardio. It really was just an excuse, I'…

  33. I went to the two and a half hour seminar last night with my mom. Luckily, my support group is awesome. I was 120% for the sleeve. I read about the bypass and the idea of moving stuff around just seemed too invasive to me. However, with that said. After being at the seminar, I am thinking much more about the bypass for the following reasons; -I have a major problem with sweets, this has always been my downfall -My center of excellence has done over 300,000 bypass operations, and have a much longer history on the bypass because it has been around longer. -Seeing the surgeries actually done last night, the sleeve seems just as invasive considering they completely…

I had RNY on Jan 8, 2014. I have lost about 42 pounds so far. I was not overweight until after I had a baby and my body went out of whack. Anyway, I have pretty good muscle memory and have always enjoyed exercising so it has been pretty easy to get active again. As a result, I exercise 6 days a week. I take a really hard HIIT class at the gym twice a week, Zumba twice a week, an hour of weight training 3 days a week and a self defense class once a week and Pilates 1-2 times a week. Now, my question. I calculated my BMR and TBEE and, while I expected to fall short, I am WAY under in my calorie intake. Today, I hit a wall and just felt tired all day. I listened to my bod…

I'm on puréed food now and haven't lost anymore weight. I still feel hungry and often. And not like head hunger- my stomach actually growls! I have no nausea with anything and I rarely feel full. I'm worried my pouch is too big and I'm never going to lose weight. Am I alone, because I see so much success and so many people saying they are never hungry for months. Ahhhh! I'm hungry! I am confused because my nutritionist doesn't want me having less than 50g at minimum and to try to get them up to 100g per day. She has been saying to do this since at least 2 months post op.
