I had my surgery Nov "12 and have lost a total of 120lbs. My situation right now is I'm having this extreme pain in my stomach that's making me nauseas, I want to throw up but nothing's coming out. Sorry for the details I just don't know what to do. Plus sucks just found out Monday I no longer have health insurance. Please if someone's had similar problems let me know what this could be and what I can do. Thanks

I Sometimes marvel at my own stupidity. I am 5 days post op. I took my daughter to basketball practice tonight. Because of the Super Bowl only 3 girls showed up. I looked at my other daughter who came with me and said let's go shoot some hoops we almost have the whole gym to ourselves. Whoooo and off I go. Running around, jumping, shooting. Next thing you know I fall backwards on the gym floor. That's when it hit me. What the heck was I doing? I fell backwards so hard. I'm home now and scared to death about what I may have done to myself. I'm seriously hurting. It's almost like I had a moment of totally forgetting I even had surgery. Sorry I just had to vent somewhere.

Hello. I had my surgery on Tuesday. When they weighed me after surgery in the hospital I gained 5 pounds. I chalked it up to bloating and tried not to let it get to me. I weighed myself today and I still weigh the same amount. 5 lbs more than the morning of my surgery. Is that normal 5 days out??? Please be honest with me.

I was just wondering if anyone has been revised from the VSG to the RNY at all. I am being revised because of severe reflux, but just wondering if anyone could share the story with me...(hopefully success) Did it cure your reflux if that 's the reason that you had the revision, and how was your weight loss after the revision. Thanks in advance!!! I have been researching but am having a hard time finding a lot of info on it!

I had RNY on Monday. I came home from the hospital last evening. Since I've been home, I've noticed every time I try to sip my water, protein drink or take my medicine, it feels like it sticks in my throat. Or maybe it feels a little bit like reflux. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong?

  8. Hoping someone has some insight on this. Today I ended up in the ER for extreme stomach pain and vomiting. It was like an 8 out of 10 on the pain scale. I was sipping a Swiss Miss Diet cocoa and bam! Was completely incapacitated. At the ER they ran blood tests and did CT. My heart rate was too low (46) but that is because my blood pressure meds need to be adjusted again, no doubt, and that wouldn't cause this kind of stomach pain. The CT showed inflammation but nothing concrete. They gave me zofran, which stopped the vomiting and helped with the pain a lot, which made me think that maybe the vomiting caused cramping which is now much more painful with a sleeve. The ot…

I have been training for a 5k so I've started running on top of aerobics and weight lifting and I've noticed here lately that my appetite has increased. I was just wondering if this is normal??

Hello. I am 5 days post - op. I was surprised to see Tomato Soup as one of the food options. Does anyone know what other types of soup would be considered whatever is acceptable for post op. I was under the impression clear liquids would be broth only. If tomato soup made with lactaid milk is ok I'm wondering what else is. Also can protein powder be put in the soup? I'm currently only getting approx 300 calories a day and only 30 protein so I'm trying to find ways to add it. I put it in sugar free pudding and it was fine. Last question is. I was using Muscle Milk powder but I'm almost out of it. What is everyone's favorite or best choice for protein. Thank you

  14. Hello all of you great supporters everywhere, I know there are many people who can relate to this and help me with my dilemma. I had my bypass on 1/7/14 and have been doing great. I have definitely been conscious of my breath d/ t the protein shakes and I brush at least 4 times a day to get out the nasty taste (sickening sweet dry mouth). But I returned to work today ( my first day back) and I was so excited to show off all the great success I've had so far. Partly through the day I was sipping on my protein shake which I admit doesn't smell that great and has a horrible after taste when one of my direct co-workers asked if the smell was the protein and I said yes and ap…

  21. I had my procedure 12/30/13 at Essentia St Joseph's Hospital Park Rapids, Minnesota. Thought after meeting such awesome, supportive people there I'd start a thread. I attended a nutritional meeting this past Wednesday and connected with many people from newbies to veterans all doing well. I'm still off work, had an endoscopy today to dilate my stoma. I feel a bit better. Back to step 2... I can do it.

So in my year and a half post RNY I have never really had issues with food getting stuck. I did with my band all the time it didn't matter if I ate super slow and tiny bits of food. It would all get stuck. About a month ago I ate some ground beef and it go stuck. It was painful I have never experienced that type of pain before. I let it go for about three hours I finally caved and called my dr. He said give it time don't eat or drink anything. He said if it doesn't ease up call me in the morning and I will get you in for a scope. About 30 minutes later it all came out. I still didn't eat anything just drank lots of clear fluids (well what I could handle). Now a month l…

I'm scared that is what I have done already. I never understood the whole "dietary guidelines" what to eat and what not to eat. I FEEL My doctors office pretty much left me out on my own, they gave me a food list for 7 wks, since then I've been on my own, and failing!!! Today officially marks 100 pounds lost. I should be jumping for joy. I waited for this day. I was so excited for it. I've spent the last four days at the hospital with one of my best friends while her father was dying. She is young, only 25. I'm more like her stepmother. She lived with my husband and myself for the last year. It just kills me to see her going through this pain. They had to remove him from life support. I'm just so drained and so sad that I just can't celebrate this loss. :/

  40. Today's Press-Enterprise newspaper front page featured a young woman weighing 555# who had a gastric bypass in Oct. It took 3 pages and was a great article on the surgery and her journey. It was wonderful to see such a positive article since there are still so many people that feel that surgery to lose weight is the easy way out. I know many of you will be doing "secret" surgery to avoid the negativity of friends and family. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all had the courage to shout out to everyone and get only love and support back!

  41. I saw this and thought it might be helpful for those trying to choose which ones to buy. Numerous companies market Vitamins to gastric bypass patients, including chewable Multivitamins. Not all of these vitamins are created equal, though, and some are not really suitable for gastric bypass patients at all. But how can you tell the difference? Well, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) has issued specific guidelines for bariatric surgery patients when it comes to vitamins. Let's see how some popular brands measure up. Celebrate Vitamins Celebrate Vitamins markets a fairly comprehensive line of vitamins to bariatric surgery patients. The la…

Calcium carbonate is often cheaper, but unfortunately gastric bypass patients cannot absorb it because they lack stomach acid. Did you guys know this? Now I have to try source calcium citrate....…
