Surgery was 5/7/14. Things are going well. Scars healing, No pain. Got on the scale for the second time today. Weight down 7 lbs in the past week (total of 16 since surgery). No hunger. Almost have to remember to eat and drink. Ah, drinking, unless I consciously think about it, it is difficult to drink the 100 oz of Water a day. But we press on.

I'm a revision from band to bypass, and I don't know what happened after surgery, (2 weeks ago today,) but I CANNOT stomach artificial sweeteners anymore. It hits my palate like poisonous metal. And what are all the Protein supplements made of? Artificial sweeteners... I am in this dangerous situation where I am seriously subsiding off Water and soy milk. I've been taking swallowed Vitamins instead of chewed, because I can't take the sweetners. Honestly, I can't. Would you continue to drink or chew something that tasted like bleach? I know taste buds change after surgery, but this is ridiculous. Argh!!! Sorry for my rant. Just one more week, then I can go to mushies..…

I'm 7 weeks out since surgery, and have been grazing on things. Sometimes I don't have full meals, just little Snacks. Anyone else have this problem, and how do you handle this? I don't want to do it anymore!

So, I saw my surgeon this morning and for some reason I was surprised when he said my next appointment is the pre-op visit and I can have the surgery on the 9th. I'm not sure why I was surprised -- I don't know what the heck I was expecting! lol So, I'm on my way! Looking forward to getting some encouragement and sharing some experiences with others around the same time.

I had my RNY on March 5th. First couple of weeks were fine then the next 8. Weeks have been really hard. I has severe nausea and couldn't eat. I had two EGDs that didn't help. I ended up I the hospital last Thursday. They ended up removing my gall bladder on Sunday and I got released yesterday but I have to keep my PICC line in because I am on TPN for the next few weeks. I'm finally feeling better but still can't eat quite yet, hence the need for the TPN. A couple days before I was admitted my legs were really sore, as if I had done a thousand lunges. The reason, my potassium levels were really really low. All this to say, if something doesn't feel right, tell your doc…

We were on the beach for a week and this is the first time I have ever lost weight on vacation. I stayed on plan good. I tried to eat a Prawn Cocktail one night but they were so big, I was stuffed after eating only 3 prawn! Some days, especially travel days, it was hard to get all my Water in so I started retaining Fluid. My body decided to release the fluid on my trip home yesterday!! LOL We had a full kitchen there so I cooked for my husband and I had shakes. My only down fall I think was the wonderful fresh fruit.....I probably ate too much. But I did good and had fun

Hopefully this the correct forum. I'm a 27 year old male and currently weigh 262lbs. I'm considering gastric bypass surgery but I'm on the fence about it because I don't know if it's right for me. Also, I don't have that great of a support system as many of the closest people to me think I'm silly for even considering it. But I have my reasoning: - I'm 100+ pounds overweight. - I take medicine for high blood pressure. - My cholesterol is high (has been for years, but no meds). - According to realize.com, my BMI is 40. - Major family history of diabetes and heart trouble. In the past 5 years, I've attempted several kinds of diets: Herbalife, Body By Vi, Advo…

Do I need to discuss getting liquid forms of my meds through my psychiatrist? I take several psychiatric meds. I am having my surgery in June and was wondering about this. How did others on the forum taken their regular meds after surgery? Has anyone crushed their meds after surgery? I am kinda worried about this. I am going g to talk to the pharmacist today about my meds. I am just curious about what others have done. Thanks!

I have a work party at Outback tonight. I like my steak rare, so I don't want to take steak home to reheat since it won't be rare after its reheated. Does anyone know if they'll just let you order a side of grilled shrimp without ordering an entree.

I had surgery 5/7/14. 2 day hospital stay. Since then I have been on a liquid diet. Supposed to take 100 oz of water daily (a challenge). Been following the doc's instruction to a T. Finally got on a scale today. Lost 9 lbs. since surgery. It works if you drink the Kool-Aid (figuratively) and follow the instructions.

I'm two months out from bypass; just joined a new gym. Im going three days a week doing a mix of machines and cardio. Trying to target each body part during the week. What are your workout routines? What machines work best for bypass losers? What machines work best for excess skin areas?

I'm concerned I'm going to have to eat ALL THE TIME it will seem. I only eat about 1-2 meals a day now, don't snack, I just don't think about eating nor even think about it until my stomach grumbles around 3 or 4pm. I already know that's not healthy and my body is retaining fat blah blah blah but I can't help it. When I was on Weight Watchers my points were around 35 and it seemed I was constantly eating and I hated it. Am I going to have trouble with this? I was watching a youtube video of post op eating (days 1 and 2) and drinking 1 oz over a two hour time and then 2 oz over a 3 hr period of time, something like that. Sounds very tedious. Does it get easier? I'm hoping …

I was scheduled for a sleeve but had an agreement with my surgeon that if she got in my abdomen and there had been too much damage from the lap band I had taken out she would do a bypass. Anyway so I had a bypass. I'm having trouble with it mentally partly because I think any major surgery can mess with your emotions at first. And because I wasn't totally mentally prepared for it. (Btw I apologize for grammar mistakes etc). I'm typing on my iphone). The first few days I felt "altered". Almost as if I had become some sort of mutant. I am starting to do a little better. I know I needed a weight loss surgery so I think The right thing happened , but I am having an adjustm…

Hello my American friends! We are planning a weekend of shopping and R&R in your area so looking forward to it! Where is the best place for me to go to stock up on protein bars and Isopure? I only use them in a pinch or on crazy busy days but I want variety and best bang for my buck. Also if you don't mind letting me know what your favourite family restaurant is that would be great. Would love to take my family someplace new to eat! Thx !

Has anyone been pregnant after gastric bypass? Or maybe currently pregnant? The forum set for the pregnancy was pretty much empty. I'm just looking for someone that has been through it or currently going through it ... I have been having some issues but I do not know anyone going through pregnancy after gastric so they won't fully understand :/

Hi, Just got revision from band to gastric bypass. There was a seven month wait between taking the band out and getting the bypass. I've been mostly subsisting off protein-added soy milk. I cannot, CANNOT take the taste of artificial sweeteners anymore. Drinking the Protein shakes bring tears to my eyes. Weird how taste buds change after surgery. I could handle them after the Lap band surgery. But drinking has been weird. There was a time a couple days ago I think I swallowed too many Vitamins at once, and I felt a sharp pain near my tummy. The initial pain isn't there, but now when I drink, I get a weird achy pain near my left hip. I hope I'm not leaking. Not t…

Hi there. I'm really interested to know what aftercare you guys receive? Do you have regular check-ups or weigh-ins? Do you have periodic X-rays or scans to check all is ok? Do you have blood or any other kinds of tests to make sure you're not vitamin deficient? Is there anything else you have? And how long does your aftercare last? Thanks x

As of tomorrow, I will be a month out of surgery. This morning, for lunch, I packed a cup of Trader Joe's Black Bean Soup (really yummy if you're in the mood for it).. Somewhere though between Breakfast and lunch, I decided I'd rather have tuna salad. So, I thought I'd just buy a tuna wrap from the cafeteria downstairs, then slowly scrape out the tuna inside and call it even, even if I had to throw away 3/4 of the actual sandwich. After all, I've been doing great mixing in and out of the mushy/soft foods phase. No problems at all really. I got upstairs to the break room, unwrapped it from the aluminum foil, then (what I thought was) *slowly* took two small bites.…

I will admit it I am a terrible diabetic. I don't check my blood regularly like I am supposed to. I used to eat sweets all the time. Matter of fact the only time I checked my sugars is when my PCP put me on victoza. It screwed me really bad and my sugar would run about 270 fasting in the morning. I have been taken off the victoza and put on 2000 mgs of metformin a day. As usual I went back to my old ways of not checking my sugars. However, I have been on the liver shrink diet and I have not eaten any sweets for a while now. I decided I would check my blood sugar and it was 150. I am happy to say my sugar has come down over a hundred points since I started the diet. It h…
