I am preparing for Bypass surgery the 1st week of August. I am soooo excited about it and have been very open to my friends and coworkers. My problem is I almost feel like I have talked about it too much and people around me are tired of hearing about it. No one has said anything - but we have all had that friend who perhaps broke up with someone and wont shut up about it? I dont want to be that person..lol. Does anyone else feel that way? I am really afraid of how much I will talk about it AFTER the surgery! Also - Does anyone else out there feel all alone? Even though my BFF is right there beside me - I still feel alone..I have so many fears like I am going to be the …

I've started my weight loss surgery journey and have about three months to go before my surgery. I have chosen to not tell many people because I didn't want anyone "raining on my parade" because I have been warned about that. I have told both of my parents and step mom and also my grandmother as well as a few very select friends and have a coworker who has had RNY and is also a good support. Everyone has been VERY supportive and to be honest, I have been surprised by the support. This morning I was so pumped up, I would have had the surgery tomorrow if they let me. Then, I told a close friend of mine who instantly said, "Are you sure you want to do that?" Then proceeded t…

Grrr. Was told this week due to barretts esophagus I cant have the sleeve and am leery of the bypass due to its reputation of being dangerous. Researched it and now my chief worries are hospital readmission because im self paying and the possibilities of dumping or incontinence. Sounds unpleasant. However getting out of my car today I heard the plastic on the side of the seat snap. How embarassing and thankful no one was there to hear it. That put me over the edge. Will talk to surgeon about bypass this week. How common is dumping and (God forbid) fecal incontinence?

  8. I went to see my doctor today. He said my incisions have healed great and addressed all my concerns (constant diarrhea, belly pain, Protein intake, etc.) and I was relieved to hear I'm not having any abnormal issues. Yay! I was curious about something so I decided to ask. Whenever I read about people in the pre-op stage for their surgery, they usually have to go on a diet for a few weeks before surgery. I've also heard of that before when I was first looking into the surgery. I did not have to do this before my surgery. So I asked the doc and he said that recent studies have found that it doesn't make a difference in many cases. He also said that some studies found that…

Hi. So tomorrow is my final pre-op appointment with my surgeon. Surgery is set for next Tuesday the 8th. Super excited, not an ounce of nervousness, but I've been wondering about silly stuff- for instance- I'm quite confident I will have excessive skin- anyone have any suggestions on how to hide this extra skin? Spanx or another undergarment that you've had good luck with? I don't want something that is extra control and confining, just something that provides a little "damage control". Also- I've been thinking about my goals and milestones. Did any of you ever go out and buy a super cute outfit before surgery in several sizes smaller as additional motivation? I'…

I'm scheduled for my revision on July 8th. I'm having second thoughts and cold feet. My band removal was 3 months ago and an emergency, so I didnt have a chance to worry about it or even think about it. I was in so much pain, unable to eat or drink, so it was the right choice as the band slipped. Now one week to go. Im on liquids for the week, have gone thru all my preop testing. I'm just freaking out a bit. Im wondering how much I'll even loose as im 5'5 and 199 pounds. Everyone says revisions loose slower. How slow? Thankfully my insurance is covering it, well I had to pay 3.5k as my surgeon is out of network. I know overall its the right decision …

I just had my surgery on June 3rd. I'm happy I finally was brave enough to go through with it. Today I'm a bit frustrated. My family and I went to the movies. The smell of the popcorn and seeing people eat it just pissed me off. I know I can never have popcorn again. Also I know I signed up for this. All I can have is liquids right now. I'm in phase 1. I already lost 31 pounds. I'm just in a real foul mood today. Is this normal?

I told all my friends I had this surgery, I did the same when I was banded and it helped keep me motivated to lose.. I need that push. It's embarrassing though when they ask how much did you lose this week lol I'm like arrrrghhh haha it's crazy how my mind thinks well this is it, you aren't going to lose anymore.. I am eating under 600 calories, 65 grams of protein, 64 + ounces of water, no sugar, low carb and low fat and I'm walking every day so I know I'm doing all the righ…

As I am finishing up with things in preparation of revising from the Lap-Band to gastric bypass I was doing my psych eval. I was asked what would I want to do once I was at a healthy weight. I said the usual things of playing with my children without being overly tired, riding a roller coaster comfortably, ect. I began to really start thinking about what I really wanted to do that I never had the confidence to do due to my weight. So I wanted to ask what is some of your non scale bucket list type of things that you always wanted to do but was too weak, heavy,or embarassed of your size to do? I guess since I asked I will go first. 1) I want to do a couch to 5K run, or …

  16. *This is a copy and paste of what I wrote in the Lapband complications thread* Long time bandster, mostly now a creeper lol. A quick back story. I was banded in 2010, I had lost 70lbs and with my surgeons blessing got pregnant with my 3rd child (1st "band baby") 9 months post op. Had a successful pregnancy/delivery with an empty band. A few months after my surgery my gall bladder went bad and had it removed. Didn't do a whole lot of "maintence" with my band between 2011 and 2013. After my 4th child (2nd band baby) was born this past October I was noticing that even with an empty band I was still getting the stuck feeling and having difficulty eating and many times I f…

I went to my PCP on Thursday for pre-op medical clearance, and learned that the Water retention, high blood pressure, shortness of breath and chest pains, is possible ASTHMA! Rather than my heart. He said that I exhale like a severe asthmatic. As I sit here going through my life history, I am always thought that I was unable to 'breathe' after doing stuff (or singing), because I was always overweight. Now I am starting to rethink it, and am just in shock. Did anyone find out about unforseen medical issues when going for pre-op testing? Also, the real question - whill the 'asthma' vanish when the weight is lost?

Help! I had hiatal hernia and horrible acid reflux before gastric bypass which got fixed at time of bypass surgery. Doc said very tough to fix the hernia. 5 months out and I've had a bout of acid reflux. I thought the bypass was supposed to prevent reflux because there's no acid in the pouch. I read somewhere that an ulcer could be causing the reflux maybe something like that poking through the staple line. Anyone else experiencing this it know what I should do???!

It was weird going out with husband and a large group of friends the other night for happy hour and ordering dinner. My husband and I got a plate of fish tacos to share. It came with two tacos and a side of black Beans. We ate the insides of one of the tacos and a bit of the black beans that were on the side. That was actually too much for me. The shells and the other taco we took home. The beans were too difficult to transport. My husband took the inside of the leftover tacos for lunch at work and I made the kids Breakfast with the leftover corn tortilla shells. Before we both would have ordered something and eaten it all. So some truth about surgery even with all the reading I did it did not prepare me for the horrible nausea I have had for the past 2 days nor the pain at the site where the stapler went in. While having the swallow test done it was my moment of time "what did I do to myself" I'm sure that it will all be worth it. Having the drains removed was a weird feeling but glad they are out. Looking forward to healing and not being in pain.

Even though I'll be down at least 80lbs from my first visit I'm still so nervous that I won't fit. I know they have the test seats I can try, but I'm still going to be so disappointed if I don't fit. So at one of my pre-op support meetings yesterday, the therapist said that the best way to shut negative comments down if someone disagrees with your choice to have surgery is not to respond back negatively, but to reading with open ended questions. For instance, my mom is very opposed to me having surgery. The very first comment out of her mouth was " oh no!, that's so dangerous, so many people have died from that surgery". The therapist said a great response from me would be "wow! I hadn't heard that. What makes it so dangerous" or " oh no, I'm sorry, who passed away?" Obviously she doesn't have first hand knowledge of any of this, so if she were to say "well I heard…

I know there's a lot of these kinds of posts but when I'm having a bad day that's full of nausea and I'm feeling like a failure, this is what I think about. A small NSV for me is since I've lost 22 lbs., whenever I go to the store or go out and about, I don't get SUPER sweaty. I live in AZ so it's in the 100s right now, but I used to sweat for NO reason. Now, I only sweat when I'm in the heat for a prolonged amount of time. I don't sweat when I'm just walking around a store or anything. It's so nice.

I have tried bumping up my protein and how many steps I get each day. I am still only able to eat1/4-1/3 cup of food at each sitting. I still can't drink water but I stay hydrated on milk 4 cups daily. Any ideas or suggestions? I just want to move a little more. I still have 50 lbs to loose according to my surgeon. Thank you for your time.
