  1. Started by ready to get this show on,

While on my weight loss journey, I've been learning to drink water. I discovered that I really liked higher alkaline water, so I kept drinking it and started wondering if there was a reason I preferred it. Then, I read this article http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22844861. Now, that I think about it, my GERD isn't nearly as bad when I'm drinking pH8+ water. Has anyone experienced this? Also, maybe it might help someone having lapband GERD issues. That's the reason I'm having revision surgery.

Hey guys!!! My name is Suzy. I'm 23 years old and live in Arlington Heights, Illinois. I had gastric bypass surgery on July 22nd 2014. I have a blog if any of you want to read it! It's pretty new, and it's all about my life (especially focusing on this surgery and my experience with it this far). I am a social work major and I just want to help people. I made the blog so I could give an insight into this experience. So many peoples blogs helped me, so all I want to do is pay it forward. Feel free to ask any questions, I am an open book. Love to all! http://dimandgirl.wordpress.com --> blog Suzy Zuffante (Dimand) --> facebook sdimand@gmail.com --> email

  5. "During an interview with Good Morning America, Williams explained that falling back into alcohol abuse was "very gradual." "It's the same voice thought that… you're standing at a precipice and you look down, there's a voice and it's a little quiet voice that goes, 'Jump,'" Williams told Diane Sawyer. "The same voice that goes, 'Just one.' … And the idea of just one for someone who has no tolerance for it, that's not the possibility." When asked why he relapsed, Robin answered: "It's [addiction] — not caused by anything, it's just there… It waits. It lays in wait for the time when you think, 'It's fine now, I'm OK.' Then, the next thing you know, it's not OK." Replac…

After surgery the doctor tells me that they found something on my pancreas. He couldn't take it out at the time because it would have caused complications with the bypass surgery. I am going for a CAT scan on Monday. He was optimistic in that he didn't think it was cancerous, but he wants it out. Anyone else have this happen?

I was wondering if anyone has had to move provinces right in the middle of the entire process? I currently live in Ontario, but am looking to move for work. The possibilities right now appear to be Saskatchewan or Alberta. I'm concerned about how I will go about getting my surgery if I move. OHIP will no longer cover me, I don't think. And it'll probably be awhile before the new province will cover me... Any ideas?

So I've been trucking along with all my appointments, completing everything but the endoscopy, one nutritionist visit and the sleep study. I met with the sleep study doctor today and he was very, very interested in the fact that I had a pulmonary embolism almost 20 years ago. I had a vena cava filter installed at the time and took blood thinners for six months and was told it all cleared up on its own. I see a vascular surgeon (and have for the past five years) who monitors the filter --- I just recently had a X-ray of it to make sure it hadn't moved (he actually was going to suggest removing it until I told him I was preparing for gastric bypass). Neither he nor the bypa…

I chose my hospital/surgeon due to proximity to my home and the fact that 4 close friends highly recommended them. Did nursing clinicals there. Have friends that work there. Met the bariatric staff, LOVED them! I feel that my care leading up to surgery has been excellent. Expect aftercare to be just as good. I will be having lap RNY. Now...I have a jealous co-worker who constantly makes snarky comments about my choice in hospital. Jealous she just started with company and must wait 2 years to get surgery. I have said that after 5 months I sometimes forget I have had surgery because I am so into the routine of what I eat but I guess I forgot yesterday. I fixed a peach, small pieces and a small amount of cottage cheese. I was sitting at the table and TALKING to my husband while I ate and about half way through I got an awful pain but could not pinpoint exactly where it was. I stopped eating. Then for about the next 15 minutes I had that salivating feeling we get before we throw up, I was unsuccessful in doing so but I knew something was stuck so I finally made myself throw up and was shocked to see it looked like a raw egg dropped in Water, just a small pc of peach and lots…

  25. I am curious why the liquid and pre-op diets lengths are so different for everyone. I have seen some on here that only have to do liquids for 2-3 days prior, for me it has been 15 days. I am guessing it has something to either do with weight, BMI, or maybe just surgeon specific but I thank the Lord I only have one more day before my surgery because this has been the roughest two weeks for me. On the plus side I have lost 23 lbs which means less to loose Post Op.... but would not wish this liquid regimen on anyone.

Good morning everyone.......I had my surgery on Tuesday, July 8th. I had very little pain and no real issues. I spent 2 days in the hospital and was released on Thursday afternoon. The only issue I had after discharge was my leg swelling up due to being off my meds for 2 weeks. This gave me problems for walking the first couple of days home, I did get back on my medication and with in hours I was feeling much better. Last Thursday I went back to my doctors to get the drain removed and have my 1st check up. Everything went well and I have lost my first 11lbs/in 10 days post-op. I am not having any real hunger pains, but the stage 1 diet is getting old very fast. The go…

Another company is Kay's Naturals for chips, cereals, Cookies. These all have 12 grams of Protein in each serving. The products from these companies that I have tried are very enjoyable.

I know it's to help with healing but I feel it will be fine for me. Post op appt is Wednesday and I better get the ok our I might just have to defy him. (I get grumpy when I'm hungry, can you tell?) Again, I wish these "rules" were the same for everyone and every Dr everywhere.

  37. Hello. I am here again asking questions. Today is my second day at home after my surgery and I am so bored. The doctor told me I should walk a lot but I forgot to ask him if it is only inside my apartment or if actually I can go outside and walk a few blocks and seat a while drinking some hot tea or something . Today is my four day after my Surgery.

  38. I have RNY surgery next Monday and have a few weeks home by myself afterward. (My husband is home but works nights). I know I'll exercise, and I have movies, books, and magazines lined up. Does anyone have other ideas of how to pass the time?

The past few days, maybe even ever since I got out of the hospital, nothing tastes right. I haven't been able to drink plain Water since the surgery, I have to add Crystal Lite. None of my flavors taste good. The Protein drinks don't even taste right where they did before and after my surgery. I am not getting in my Fluid or protein by any means. I got out yesterday and drove to my friends house and visited and everything felt fine but at the end of the day I was worn slam out. Today has been no different. Worn out all day and even my vision has been blurred all day. What gives with this? Does anyone know? Oh, my pain has lessened a lot, so that is a good …

I'm 7 weeks out and haven't had any food problems at all (except for two little episodes with dry chicken popping right back up). But, for the past 3-4 days, I just haven't wanted to eat anything because nothing sits right. Everything I eat just kind of feels 'heavy' or 'yuck' in my stomach. I haven't been sick but it's like the stage just before that. Anybody else have this suddenly pop up after no problems? I'm not getting enough Protein because I just don't feel like eating. I'll call my surgeon if it keeps up but I'd like to know if other people have had something like this. Ginger

Question from my overthinking pea-brain tonight. A pound is still just a pound after bypass, right? It takes like 3500 extra non-burned calories to gain a true pound? I'm losing, slowly, and only getting in 400-500 calories a day, I just wanted to make sure that since the surgery our bodies and tummy are subject to new caloric rules for gaining. One day I'm up, one day I'm down, so frustrating!! Just making sure I'm on the right track.

If you are pre-op I can help with questions. I jumped through some serious hoops and had so many setbacks. When I finally had surgery I had complications that took me over a month to recover from, but I would do it 100 times over! If post op I could sure use someone to talk to as well.I really have no one to speak to about this as it seems people who have not been "modified".... well it feels like I am a burden or,they can't relate. I had the sleeve done in January 2009 because I chickened out of the RNY. I was terrified that I wouldn't be able to handle it so went with the sleeve. Well, after 4 major surgeries, I gained all the weight back and my peripheral neuropathy is so bad, I can't walk any distance! So, back to the doctor for the revision. I am determined to get through this surgery and lose the weight so I can enjoy life with my kids and grandkids.
