S this normal or does this happen a lot. I try to get into it but I am not comfortable and it feels weird. My husband tells me to give it time and it will come back. I don't have a feeling or anything I just don't know anymore. I am going on week 6 since surgery.

  2. Ok so I had an upper GI and I don't have a stricture. I was supposed to start eating soild food 2 weeks ago. I was able to get like 3 tsp of fish and mashed potatoes down without vomiting. But I'm so afraid to eat cause then when I drink an hour after my food- I vomit it up. I can't get chicken down. Has anyone else had a difficult time getting food down. I'm so frustrated. Any suggestions.

  3. Sorry about my euphoria, but it's day 5 and I can see past my tummy and see my weight! A definite milestone since puberty! I can't believe how pounds are just 'melting'. I went to sleep last night and woke up this morning weighing four pounds less. It seems like a giant lie,. Somebody pinch me. Um, actually, no, I'm still sore :-)

I took a couple of bites of scrambled egg today at around 8am and then waited about an hour to have some of my Protein drink to take my medicine with. I still haven't taken all of my medicine. Two pills and two sips later I felt like I was going to throw up. I have been like that for hours. Finally those sips of Protein Drink came up. About 30 minutes ago I took a tsp of Pepto Bismol and that came up. I can't drink anything. I got sick again and it looked like I drank the whole bottle of Pepto. I am feeling better but it still feels like something is stuck. I called the dr on call and it didn't seem to be a big deal to him but it sure is to me! Fiance is out…

I know I can't be the ONLY person that most pain meds don't work on, right???? The only pain med that works on me is demerol. Morphine doesn't work, diludad doesn't work, acetometophen doesn't work, tramadol doesn't work, neither does fentanyl, can't take hydrocodone, ibuprofen works but can't take it anymore. My bariatric surgeon refused to script me the demerol making one lame excuse after another. (I only wanted it while in the hospital. After, in pill form, would be nice too but I usually just suffer through the pain). It was neglect on his part and the nurses agree. Took them 9 hrs after surgery to get a hold of him to try another pain med that of course also did…

  10. When you had surgery did the nurses monitor your liquid drinking while you were there? Ie how much they gave you, how much you drank and how long it took you to drink it? Just curious. That never happened for my husband and I. We went in thinking it would be something that would be important for the nurses to monitor.

How am I supposed to take the protonix granules if I'm not supposed to have the sugar that's in the apple juice??? So first I was afraid to take the Omaprozole capsule because it seemed too big and it did go down uncomfortably and now I'm afraid to take the protonix because of the sugar in the apple juice. I have sugar free apple sauce but worried about that hurting going down too. At the hospital the protonix was given via iv and they did give me apple juice and I drank one with no problem (i did dry heave that night though. Don't know what that was from) but the home "rules" from dr is we aren't supposed to have any juice. This sucks.

So, here's my latest update. Surgery 7/21. On 7/22, I was moved to Clear liquids. One sip, and I felt like I had to puke my guts. On 7/23, I could finally tolerate liquids. Dismissed (after a LONNNNNNG wait) from hospital today, 7/24. Questions: I feel sore - the kinda sore where you feel like you've been beaten. Badly! Lol And the bruises from all the blood draws and glucose checks don't help! How long did you feel sore? I walked around the house, took a shower, and feel like I am too tired to even keep my eyes open! Would you recommend rest, even if that means going longer without Water? My doc had to use staples on my incisions. Lucky me, he said h…

I have two big bruises along the sides of my lower belly, one on each side, and 3 or 4 blood dots near them. Those could be from the Lovinox shots but I can't figure out what the bruises could have come from....... not anywhere near incisions. Do they use clamps to stabilize our bellys during surgery or something? I know when I had my robotic laparoscopic hysterectomy I had bruising but that's because we're put in a few positions but this wasn't done robotically. Anyone else have/had unexplained bruises?

And sometimes I freak out that this will be no different than when I lost 50 pounds (I need to lose about 120) on my own, and stalled out. So worried, so scared, and at the same time SO HOPING for a quick recovery and major success! Well, wish me luck!!

Is it possible to get too few calories in at the beginning of your journey? Will this slow your weight loss? I'm 2 weeks postop today, I'm only getting in 400-500 calories per day. Struggling to get my 60 proteins and most days get between 45-50g of protein. Doing ok on water, usually 50-60 ounces per day. The past 3 days, there's been no scale movement. Could be hormonal, could be stress, could just be one of those unexplained things... I'm not upset or worried, but curious about the low calorie count having an impact on my metabolism in the long run. Anyone have experience with this? Maybe some veterans or anyone else who just simply couldn't get the calories down…

Prior to and since surgery I have only told my family and one or two close friends that I had weight-loss surgery. I'm a very positive person and I only want people who will be positive and support me to know. Has anyone had the difficulty of explaining the weight-loss at work without telling that you had weight-loss surgery? I thought about just saying that my doctor has me on a strict nutrition routine and I've been exercising. I don't want to lie but I'm not sure I want everyone to know either.

Well, the has finally come that I have both dreaded & welcomed. My surgery is tomorrow, the 22nd and I am a nervous wreck!! I want this, but am so afraid of all the complications that could arise. I keep thinking this should be easy since this is the second go around for me, but the sleeve wasn't as drastic and the RNY. I've seen so many success stories on here and I know the support is fantastic, but I am still apprehensive. I just hope I can keep it together at the hospital tomorrow and not break down. Thank goodness the hubby will be their to hold my hand. Okay, guess I will see everyone on the other side!

  31. That's what my bariatric surgeon is telling me to take, just like I did prior to surgery, but I am not even going to attempt to take one. It's too big. Plus it's time released which didn't make sense to me. It's not even going to be in there long enough to have any effect. My husband who got sleeved on Friday (I got rny on Friday too) was prescribed the omaprezole DR too. Don't know if it would work better for him or not. At least he can swallow it. I'm still having trouble with tiny sips of anything. I got protonix granules instead from my family dr. I'm pretty ticked at my surgeon and nurses for not having all my meds revised post op, among other reasons. This surgery…

This is my first post so I hope I've posted correctly. I was banded at Oregon Weight Loss Surgery way back in 2005. Started at 255; lowest 207. Almost immediately after I got my band, my doctor left the practice and every doctor I saw after that moved on to somewhere else. I have had a love-hate relationship with this band from Day 1. It's a little funny. I used to be afraid to throw up. I have never thrown up so much in my life and it has just become a way of life. I had the band loosened for awhile and held my own, but of course, didn't lose any further weight. Decided to get another opinion and headed over to OHSU's program for one last hurrah with my band. 40. Ok, either I'm seriously behind or further clarification is needed. I had my bypass on 7/8. Same as many others posting lately. My surgery morning weight was 238. Today, I'm at 229. That's 9 lbs. Why is everyone else at 20+ lbs? Are they adding total lbs lost since they started the entire process or is this truly how much since surgery they have lost? I'm beginning to feel like a failure today. I'm doing everything I should. And I realize EVERYONE loses at different rates, but come on, that's more than double what I've lost. I'm afraid to go in to see my surgeon next week and have him think I'm cheating or something since I've not lost as much as others. I know the …

I had the stricture fixed with an EGD but leading up to then was horrible. It got to the point where I couldn't get Water down. Not less than two weeks later I developed another stricture and again had it stretched last Friday. My surgeon said he wouldn't be surprised if I develop a third stricture. Being a bariatric patient feels lonely at times so I am thankful for this group. I had RNY gastric bypass 8 years ago and lost about 80 pounds which I lost within a year and surpassed my goal weight of 100 pounds. My lowest weight was 93 pounds, which was too low for me, but it was very difficult for me not to get sick at practically every meal for a while. I pretty much started eating anything I could keep down so I could gain some weight as I did not look healthy. I was able to bounce back and maintain a 98 to 103 pound ideal weight for about 6 years t…

For the last few days though my weight has lingered at the same place on the scale...and no, I'm not neurotically weighing myself...is that normal to hit a little plateau so soon? Does anyone know why? Also, did you feel like you could advance your diet. Like this is my 2nd week of puréed and I think Friday I could try soft foods instead of waiting until Monday. I'm holding everything down just fine. Would that bother anything? Just curious...
