I live in Alberta and just recently booked an appointment with my doctor to discuss getting a referral to the clinic in Edmonton. I looked up wait times for the surgery online and it said 3-7 years! Please tell me that's not the case! What was the wait time you were given, wherever you live, and how long until your surgery was booked? TIA!

Anybody help plz.... First off I'm 1 yr post op. I've been very sick for the past week (nausua, throwing up, etc). So dr ran some test and I have ulcers in my sleeve along with a little pouch in there. He said that the staple line didn't have enough blood flow and created a pouch. I'm taking meds for the ulcers now then were going to go in with a scope. Has anyone else ever had or heard of this? I'm a nervous wreck =\

i am scheduled for RNY on July 1st, 2014. I feel like it will be the first day of the rest of my new life! I am also exceptionally grateful that I can remain on the lean & green diet (no Protein shakes) until the day before the surgery. Although this is a private and isolated journey for me with no support, I am happy to have this forum.

I haven't felt right since coming home domain the hospital 2 Wks ago today. Last Saturday I went to ER to have an incisional abscess open up and drained. I'm still dealing with this infection. Dr prescribed antibiotics. I also have the open hole in my upper abdomen that's still open. My RNY journey hasn't been a good one thus far. Not feeling happy about my decision to have the Surgery yet. I know eventually I will but dealing with complications from this type of surgery kinda dampens it. Anyone else dealt with an infection after Surgery? Needing support through this hurdle! Thanx

Has anyone tried the Celebrate brand Protein powders? I'm curious about the tomato Soup flavor. I love Unjury's chicken soup Protein powder, but am looking for additional savory options. Has anyone experimented with high protein soup packets? Thoughts? Thanks!

Today I had my first appointment with my surgeon, it went really well until I mentioned that I was leaning toward getting the sleeve. I was very taken aback when he told me that I'm too healthy to qualify for the sleeve and that a Dr. would have to "fudge" the paperwork for me to have it paid for by OHIP. I thought that because I am healthy and very motivated that the less invasive surgery would be the one for me. The Dr also told me that he thought that I'd probably fail, long term, with the sleeve. I really am disappointed and now have to really think about the by-pass.

Suggestions for drinking all that water (100 oz.) are solicited. Also, for you golfers out there, when did/could you get back to playing???? Thanks!

Hello everyone!....I don't post much but I do try to keep up with posts when I can. I have an issue that's really starting to wear on my nerves and I was looking for some friendly input from fellow bypass patients. Here's whats going on....I feel sick to my stomach...alot....Dr found gallstones so in March had my gallbladder removed and her also ran scope down to look at my pouch and make sure there were no ulcers. All was good there..... Ok, thought I was finally gonna feel better. No....still happening. Last night, I was already in bed and it hit me all of a sudden. Stomach hurting, cold sweat all the same things as before and the only thing I can seem to throw up is cl…

With all the pre-op testing and pending surgery, I thought it wise to begin weaning myself off my morning coffee. I'm not a major coffee drinker, but I must have my giant cup every morning before my brain wakes up. If I don't, the headache kicks in brutally. I wonder if it is worth the effort. I dream of a coffee-free life, where I do not have to drag my 'dosage' with me when I travel. I am always ashamed that I run to have my fix in the morning when the birds are not singing yet. Anyone else ALSO go through that process in preparing for surgery?

I went out to eat last night and ordered a semi-spicy chicken dish that was scrumptous. I enjoyed it and chewed very slowly. It was all goood until the heat bothered me and I had to take a drink-without thinking and I took a gulp of my husband's Water. A big gulp. Bad idea it caused the foamies and i made it to the bathroom in time but threw up-out my nose, yada yada yada. The next 45 minutes or so my nose tingled with the hot from the chicken dish. it was funny and annoying all at once. The heat did not bother my stomach or throat.

5 Days Post Op. Surgery went well..stayed over 1 night and was able to go home the next night. Surgery took 3 hours. If I could keep down water and shakes I could go home. Resting and walking around because of the gases they pump in you. Some discomfort but manageable. Lots of stuff to take when you get home though, took me days to figure it out. Still can't get in all the shakes and water they want you to, to full. Only managing 4 oz. Of a protein shake and that's taking me over an hour to drink. All and All No Regrets so far. Hospital staff was excellent and so was the Dr. I was even able to shower the next day. Just steri strips on the incisions. Week 2 I will be intr…

It shows on the bottom of the page it's this year's publishing (2014) however I don't think some of the things are correct, ie: in the 'differences' section where it says the sleeve is done laparoscopically and the bypass is not. Is there anything else not correct on here? http://gastricsleevenow.com/gastric-sleeve-vs-gastric-bypass

So I just tried to go to the grocery store with the hubby... I say tried because I was driving up the road and I was sweaty and nauseous and just all around feeling ill... so I had to turn around to come back home. I came inside and was very shaky and panting. I know I'm probably not getting enough Protein but that was the reason for going to the store. I couldn't even make it outside my neighborhood. I have my first post-op appt with my surgeon tomorrow and now I'm uneasy about it. Any advice?

I had surgery on April 30. For some reason I am not hungry. I have been trying to get at least the water in. On yesterday I ate 2 chicken mc nuggets and I chewed and chewed and chewed because it was the closet thing I could get to protein. I pray that I have not messed up because I really wNt this to work. Under the circumstances that was the only thing I could get in because of other issues I'm dealing with. Today I'm doing much better back at home and not so stressed. I was able to get a protein drink in and so far that is all. No criticisms please I already feel horrible.

I'm in the begining stages of proceeding with the bypass surgery. My doctor talked about having the surgery using a robot. She said she'd have a better view, it would look as if she was inside my body not a 2d picture on a screen. And it showed that studies indicated some patients were experience less pain after the surgery because the doctors weren't using their arm muscles to do the surgery - less jiggling of internal organs. One of my concerns is that she would be offsite during the operation. What would happen if something went wrong?

I know there are several of us on here who are having surgery tomorrow. Thought I would start this topic so we could stay in touch with one another. To let each other how we are doing. Just a place where we can support one another since we all went through this on the same day. Good Luck to all of you and look forward to hearing about your successes.

Hi, I will be 59 years old this month and will hopefully have a surgery date for early August. I've seen NUT, had psych eval and passed, am on 2nd month of 3 month supervised diet. I am curious if anyone feels that having this surgery and loosing the weight fast verses a slow version diet makes you look more old and "hallowed out"? I am so ready to be healthy and feel this is my best option, but have a few friends and relatives telling me how big a mistake I am making because of my age. I'm so tired of difficulty standing up, being out of breath with just a few steps, being unable to put my shoes on let alone tie them. I'm tired of having no energy and needing naps e…

Curious if anyone has had this. I have been suffering from terrible reflux. TERRIBLE! According to my surgeon my sleeve is riding up into my esophagus and causing the reflux. He says it can be fixed by doing a gastric bypass. I am 18 months past surgery.

So my tip for pre op is cleaning yourself out day before.. I took 3/4 bottle of miralax day before surgery (in the morning) .. First surgery where after wards I didn't have constipation pain or worry about a BM. I started with 1/2 cap full 3 days after surgery and things are going very well. Highly recommend! I take it every day now and wow what a difference in how I feel all around! I'm 6 days post op and down 18 pounds. Hope this helps someone!

So I made it through the pre op diet. Managed the laxatives for breakfast and lunch. Actually lost 4 pounds which confirms I'm full of **** lol. Off to hospital with mixed feelings of nerves and excitement. If you get a spare moment say a little prayer for me. Thanks to everyone for their support on here. You've been great. Looking forward to supporting others after the main event. See you on the other side xxx

I just wanted to write a myriad of things here. My hair has been falling out now for about 2 weeks. It is more of a nuisance than a concern. Also, I was at Sam's Club yesterday to get Premier Protein drinks and they have gone up to $18.88 for 12!! SIGH.........If I can get a better deal at Costco I may have to get a card for there. The last things is this. Has anyone else had a problem with BO since surgery? It seems I cannot find a deodorant that works and I never had this problem before......

I am a 41yo single mom of twins and am considering WLS in August. I am very committed to this journey, but find myself anxious about some of the "issues" surrounding being a single parent going through this. Has anyone else done this? Was it hard to stick to the liquid/restricted diets when you had to cook meals for the kids? Any suggestions for making that easier? How about your post-op ability to manage parenting for the first couple weeks? Appreciate any advice!

I am just beginning my journey and would love to find a buddy or mentor to help me through this process. I have to do 6 months of supervised weight loss & the liver reduction diet. I was quite overwhelmed after my 1st appointment & would love to have someone to help me navigate through all this. I have a membership at the Valpo YMCA & am starting out with swimming as I have Fibromyalgia & land exercise can be hard on my body, but would love a swim buddy. Any help would be greatly appreciated, it just seems all so overwhelming right now, but I know it will be worth it in the end & I am 110% in & dedicated to changing my life!! Thanks & I look …

Hi everyone. I am 25 days post op and it has been the worst 25 days my life. I'm not able to keep anything in my system. Everything runs right through me. I've done everything my nutritionist and surgeon have said to do but I still can't make it 20 minutes without running to the restroom. I feel like I always have a lump of something stuck in my throat even if I haven't had anything to eat. I'm tired all the time. I cannot tolerate protein shakes anymore, they make me gag. I don't even know what to eat anymore. I've tried everything I'm allowed. I haven't had much of anything but water in the last 3 days. I returned to work on Monday and Tuesday but had diarrhe…
