I have always been a big coffee fanatic. Since surgery I only drink a cup or two a day of decaf with creamer, no sweetener. Every once and a while I used to go to Starbucks for a caramel macchiatto. I have no clue how to order sugar free, low fat drinks lol. Can anyone recommend something?

I just scheduled my initial consultation with the surgeon for 3/25! I'm excited! I have an appointment with my GP on 3/26 to talk about my medically-supervised weight loss, as required by insurance. Anyway, it's a little thing but I'm really excited - it's the first step!

I am preop and having a real hard time with the Protein shakes. I find they taste like flavored dog food. They have a Vitamin flavor to them, which makes me sick. I have tried mixing them with both Water or milk. In fact, I had Syntrax twist cherry mixed with cold water the other morning and I threw it up. However, I have an issue. I have to purchase Meal Replacement shakes for after surgery from the doctors office. They give a choice of Bariatric Advantage, Celebrate, and unjury. Can anyone recommend any good flavors to me besides chocolate and vanilla? I also have the option of getting unjury unflavored. The only flavored Protein shake I like so far has been syntrax s…

Hello everyone! I'm 2 years post op and I was wondering if any bypass veterans out there developed an intolerance to dairy this far out after surgery. I've never had a problem before, but now it seems like anytime I eat dairy, especially milk or heavy milk based foods, that I have terrible gas and my tummy rumbles like crazy. Sorry for the info!! I'm blushing as I share this, but I need advice. I bought fat free Lactaid and it was too sweet! Yuck!! I've noticed some weight gain too and constipation issues. Today I got some light unsweetened soy milk and it was pretty good. I'm going to try it in a shake tomorrow. If it is lactose intolerance, I'll be bummed. Yogurt, strin…

I am 3 months post op and because I am drinking 2-3 protein shakes a day to get my protein count up, I am taking in 1000-1100 calories a day. I think this is too much. My original paperwork said I should be getting 92 grams of protein a day. So many people have different amounts, so curious.

So I had a consult with my surgeon on Monday who told me we should go ahead and convert to the RNY. He told me we could do the surgery all at once, remove the band and do the bypass. Today I get a call from his billing office saying that they cannot submit for the band removal and conversion to be done at the same time and I would need to have two separate surgeries. This surprised me and when I questioned them they did not really seem to have a good reason as to why. So I called up Anthem BCBS (California) and asked them if for a bariatric conversion they require two separate surgeries and they told me 'No'. She even checked with her supervisor and told me they said …

Hey everyone, So my surgery date has just been set for May 5, 2014 for my gastric bypass surgery. So being a month and a half out is there any advice or suggestions that anyone has? What did you find most useful at the hospital? What are the most essential things to have at home for when you get back home? Anything at all would be appreciated!!! I am trying to keep myself busy and I am definitely a planner so I want to have everything set up!! Oh and what brands and flavors of whey Protein isolate did everyone try and like, it's kind of overwhelming and I can't find very many that taste very good(I cant have the coffee ones that have actual caffeine:()? Thanks for your …

Hi everyone. I'm exactly one week post op. yesterday my 2 year old jumped off the stairs into my arms. Of course I had no choice but to catch her. (She's 24lbs) it felt as though I had strained myself at the time but nothing excruciating. Now I'm so afraid that I may have caused a hernia. Just wondering if anyone had experiences like this? Also what was your abdominal pain like at 1 week post op?

Didn't see if anybody else had this, but my RNY literally grew back together. If anybody doesn't lose weight after having RNY have this checked. I went 2 years and thought I was just a 5%er who doesn't lose very much weight. My physician got suspicious and did a endoscopy. The hole between my pouch and stomach was as large around as a quarter! I was feeding the stomach that had been by passed! That was when I had to have the revision. I lost 122 pounds after that.

I had bypass surgery on the 13th. Friday and Saturday I only got about 40oz of fluids in. Today I got 20oz of protein shake down, 8oz of broth and about 8oz of water down already and it's only 3:30pm. My stomach feels like it's contracting and making noise like it would before the surgery if I haven't eaten all day. Has anyone else experienced this? I feel hungry but I don't know if my stomach is telling me it wants food or if it's full.

Hey!!! I had the gastric bypass on April 1st, 2013. I’m almost at my one year mark. And my question is what is everyone doing about food? I’m kind of getting bored. I find myself having to remind myself to eat because I don’t get that hungry feeling. I tend to crave a lot of red meat. I was told it’s because my Iron levels are kind of low. I don’t give into it every often. Sometimes I’ll eat part of a sirloin steak. But that’s like maybe once a month if that. If I had to choose to eat anything it would just be meat. chicken, Fish, Steak, Ham, Turkey, I’d definitely get my Protein in no problem. Lol I’ve increased my leafy green intake to help with my meat cravings…

Hey guys! I had Gastric bypass march 3 and have lost a total of 21lbs do far. I'm on stage 3 soft/puréed with shakes. Can you explain to me what I stricture is? I've seen it mentioned here and there and I've started having a problem. As I said before I'm on puréed foods now. I've been tolerating things fine until yesterday when I tried tuna. Puréed it and are about 1/4 cup. After I felt as if a rock was stuck. So I figured it was having a hat time digesting. I walked around, drank Water etc. now even when I drink water I can feel it at a certain point pass something and it kinda hurts/ is uncomfortable. Did I just push it to far or what is the deal? I was feeling …

my surgeon has scheduled my surgery date (Feb 5 2014) before submitting my information to my insurance company. Does this sound weird to anyone? My last M.D. check up is January 21st, then all my info from the past 3 months will be submitted. nervous about approval. Is it important to loose weight before surgery.

I am scheduled for a revision on April 3rd. Removal of band and revision to bypass. I am not required to do any special pre op diet. I am not complaining, but is this common? I see a lot of comments about the pre op liquid diet and I was curious if not having one is odd. I have the same surgeon doing the revision as did the original banding. I cannot recall of I had to do it for the original banding as it has been several years.

Has anyone else experienced this? I started this journey in September 2013. I went to a seminar and then made an appointment to meet with the Nutritionist and get started. That was the day after Thanksgiving, November 27th. All through December, in the midst of moving, and the holidays, I spent many days having lab tests, and breathing tests, and xrays, and stress tests, etc....I went to the three workshops in January and was led to believe my surgery would be the second week of February. I didn't hear anything so I called the surgery center and they advised me that my insurance requires me to be in the progam for three months before they can submit my paperwork. Ok…

The day before my surgery, I had my husband take a before picture of me. I have avoided cameras for some time now.I was downloading some other stuff off my camera this morning and I saw the pictures for the first time!!! I could not believe that was me!! Reality shocker for sure.....18 months ago I had fallen on wet tile and did the splits and tore my hamstring. Shortly after, I was DX with Spinal stenosis and fibromyalgia. I had to start with a walker and graduate to a cane for all that time, until about a month ago. During that time I not only packed on MORE wt but got extremely out of shape. Exercise is still hard for me.....baby steps

my husband has been really supportive since the start of this journey back in December. He has encouraged me, gone to all the appointments with me and stayed by my side the entire time I was in the hospital. I am a really emotional person and become a hot crazy mess easily with just the slightest hormone flux. I do take meds to help (lol) I warned my husband about the possibility of the crazy fluctuations in hormones that could take place after this surgery. I clearly remember the nurse warning us as well at the 1st appointment. The last few days I have been a BIG hot mess! Crying, yelling, lashing out, frustrated, angry, jealous. I'm sure there's more... …

Hi, Back after a few years but had RNY surgery in 6/09 and things had been fairly normal up until about a year ago when I started having bad fatigue, headaches and low grade fevers. Also ever since my RNY surgery have had chronic constipation due to my Iron supplements. In November I began having stomach pains. I went to my primary and to my bariatric group and was found to be somewhat low in iron but nothing too bad and they did an abdominal x-ray and found me to be full of stool. Due to the fatigue and headaches also saw eye doctor, ENT, pulmonologist, neurologist, allerigst, rheumatologist, hematologist, who gave me some iron fusions to see if they would help w…

Good Morning.....I had my two week post op appointment yesterday. All was good....as of this morning, including the pre op diet, I am down 27.4 pounds.... He set my wt loss goal about 20 less than I would like, I don't want the air to go all out of my face, but we will see. Now I have to start the exercise portion and this doc should run a boot camp!!! I get to start soft foods today, 2 shakes and the 3rd meal is 1/4 c of greek yogurt, or soft soft meat etc. I am thinking some of the bison I made in the crockpot for my husband a few days ago, just cooked in water and seasoned. Doc says fine but don't be surprised if a few small bites and I am full. Funny how different d…

I began the pre surgery (RNY) journey on Nov. 22, 2013. I weighed 250# at 5'6". I've been through almost all of my Program's/Surgeon's preop workup. As of today, I have lost 38# following the mindful eating and other principles of Bariatric surgery. I fear my Medicare Advantage Plan may deny my surgery. Is it possible to succeed without surgery? I have tried many, many times to diet and have yoyo'd. I don't want it to happen again. Suggestions?? Should I still plan for the surgery?? Any feedback would be appreciated!

I'm going to start out by telling you about my journey. Sorry for the babble. I started my journey in April of last year. I went through all of my testing, dietitian, psych eval, plus some. I was originally scheduled for my op in November. It got pushed to December. A month before my operation, the insurance coordinator came in and told me that the doctor was leaving. I couldn't believe it. Luckily, I was able to transfer to another doctor and saw him at the beginning of December. I had planned to have my surgery over Christmas break. I attend school online and it is virtually impossible to miss class. Also, my husband was scheduled to have a break as well. Things got…

Hey all, so I am now 3 weeks out from surgery and everything has been going well except for this one thing. I have been experiencing bad dreams and nightmares about food. I've had 3 different dreams on 3 different nights. It's actually starting to effect me though. I don't want to eat now because I'm worried about my stomach. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this happen?

I've been in a stall for the past 2 weeks. So that doesn't help with my cravings. And of course vise versa. Revolving door. I'm not phys hungry. Just want to snack. I'll only eat a half a serving. Ugh. Same old me. And I know better. Weak. weak. weak. Yup....down the hatch goes a whole serving. I do fine during the day while at work, no snacking, no urge to. But at night and while at home, munch munch munch. Why? Self destruction. Why? Who knows. I wake up the next morning....ok, I'm gonna stop this crap. Wth am I doing throwing this gift away. Bed time rolls around and I need something sweet. I've tried fruits and shakes to try and curb the sweet craving. My tast…

So I got the call on Friday I was approved for RNY surgery. I feel like I have come a long way in the past few years. I originally had lapband surgery in 2011. My highest weight was 360lbs ( I think?) and around 336lb surgery day. I went as low as 259lbs in 6 months and that was it. My band was never adjusted in a way where I felt restriction. Then due to insurance and financial issues I left the first Dr I had. I had continous pain at port site and in my stomach. The weight slowly started to creep back on then more quickly. I gained almost every pound back. I felt like a failier and that I had wasted my chance. All the food that were healthy were the hardest to eat and…

I am writing this post to simply capture others opinions so if it comes across negative please forgive me. When I chose to make this tremendously huge change in my life, I went at it alone. I did not ask who approved??? I said this is what is best for me and my future and so be it for several reasons. People will tend to have a lot of opinions and most of the time they are not requested nor welcomed. It is easier for most to rattle off a thoughtless opinion than be a support mechanism which requires work. After several required counseling sessions with the doctors, interactions with the nurses and etc, the one thing that I would like to discuss with those who h…

Hi- a year and two months post op gastric bypass. I've lost 180 pounds with 30 left until goal. In the past two days I've noticed the color of my stool is a pale whitish yellow but normal consistency. Today I feel a bit nauseated after I ate but not bad. Just under my right rib cage feels sore off and on. The only thing I've done different is I started prednisone (steroid) for hip inflamation from an old injury but I've never seen or noticed my stool looking like this. Has anyone experienced this or read about this? Is it even a gastric bypass issue?

I am about three months post op and have lost around 100 lbs from my heaviest. I have recently been experiencing discomfort in my lower stomach area ( the skin my doc calls my apron). It's almost like a bruised feeling. Has anyone else had this feeling? Is it due to the weight of the hanging skin? HW: 385 SW: 347 CW: 291
