Just wondering by having rny if your relationship with your spouse has changed? Ive been heavy for 30 of my 40 years so this will be life changing for me in all ways. My husband and I just got married a few months ago, and for the last 3 years its been a food and drinking fest. Hes very supportive, and positive about my surgery. He also says hes going to change for the better too, by running again, and trying to lose weight with me. The thing is ive heard this so many times before with us. We workout lose a little bit, and then give up and go bavk to our old ways. I am so ready for this surgery, ready to make life altering changes, I just hope my new marriage will surv…

I have been heavy my whole life. I have read stories of being skinny then gaining weight after high school. I don't know skinny I hope I like it. I am two days away from changing my life. I truly believe the benefits (meaning cormobidities) out weigh the risk of the surgery. I am terrified of complications & regret.

I'm having my 10cc lap band removed Oct 9 and then if everything goes as planned, 10 weeks later I'll have RNY. My surgeon told me that my band removal healing experience will be similar to my experience when I had the band placed six years ago. Any helpful post op tips? How long were you guys off work? I have scheduled one week off work and one week strictly working from home (which means a lap top in my lap and answer phone calls/ emails). My job is some desk work but mostly driving and making home visits to elderly clients' homes. Did anyone find the removal healing process easier than the insertion? Thanks

Hello: I am not sure if I am putting this in the right place. I am having a problem with my liquid diet. My Surgical Coordinator put me on a liquid diet consisting of either 3 Premier Protein drinks or 4 100% whey Protein/Skim Milk Drinks and two servings of raw vegetables per day. I am 61 years old, and have Type 2 Diabetes, amongst other health problems. I started the diet right away. In the first four or five days, I lost 11 pounds. It was physically very hard on me. I was not hungry, but my energy was seriously diminished. I wrote to her about the situation, also telling her that while I usually love veggies, I could not stand them as they tasted like metal…

Hello 'Bypassers,' There doesn't seem to be much information for those that have had gastric sleeves converted into gastric bypasses. There isn't even a forum for us...we must be a small minority, indeed. Back in 2010, I made the decision to undergo the gastric sleeve surgery in Tijuana, Mexico. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, was pre-diabetic, had knee and back issues, and was just overcome with a general feeling of fatigue and malaise. Unfortunately, I was ten pounds shy of reaching the BMI requirement to have my insurance to pay for surgery. Basically, my doctor told me, "You can gain ten pounds, wait a year, and apply again" or, "you can self-pay." I flew to Me…

  17. At 6 months, a statistically significant reduction in bacterial overgrowth was achieved in the probiotic group with a preoperative to postoperative change of sum H2 part per million (probiotics = −32.13, controls = 0.80). Surprisingly, the probiotic group attained significantly greater percent excess weight loss than that of control group at 6 weeks (controls = 25.5%, probiotic = 29.9%) and 3 months (38.55%, 47.68%). This trend also continued but was not significant at 6 months (60.78%, 67.15%). The probiotic group had significantly higher postoperative Vitamin B12 levels than the control group. Both probiotic and control groups significantly improved their GIQoL. http…

  18. Hi - I had my pre-op endoscopy today and the doctor said I had a "significantly large hiatal hernia". What does that mean for my upcoming surgery? My surgeon had said I could do either the sleeve or the bypass (though I want to have bypass). Does this prevent me from having one or the other? Or both? (God, I hope not!!) I thought I had read some people had it fixed at the same time, but I don't remember which surgery they had or any of the details. Anyone here have one and what impact did it have?

Hi all I know I have seen this question before so I apologize in advance for asking the same question but I wanted some opinions in relation to my own personal situation. I know only I can decide what surgery is best for me but here is everything about me… I am 28 years old and have a BMI of 43, I'm 4'11" and about 215lbs. I have been trying to have surgery for about 3 years now. About a year ago I was a week away from having the sleeve surgery but my BMI at this time was also only 40. When my surgery got cancelled only a week before my scheduled surgery date I was devastated and gained more weight! The surgeons I see are a practice of multiple surgeons and last year…

Today is the day and I'm trying to keep my cool. (I'm a nurse and over think things when it comes to surgery.) The whole clears and prep, etc wasn't so bad but the growing headache is wearing on me. I've tried to keep my feelings about the surgery low key. I've been afraid to get excited because at every corner I just knew some glitch would occur. Somehow I made it to this point and have mixed feelings. (I imagine it's quite normal.) I seem to wavering on excitement and guilt, nervousness, eagerness, fear. More of me though just wants to go and just get it done and past me so I can move on! The support I've gotten from other RNY patients, being friends and strangers …

I went into surgery Monday morning to do the gastric bypass after having several issues with the band last year. I woke up in recovery to find out there was more infection (this would make surgery #4 to remove infection.) in the lining of my stomach and he couldn't do the bypass. I am completely heartbroken. I had to gain several pounds just to re qualify for the surgery. I really feel like this past year has been for nothing now.

Any suggestions on what's safe to take? Had rny 8/8/14

I have a long way to go until I get to this phase but I am looking to the future. What do you eat and what are your nutritionists recommendations for this phase? I don't remember my nut going over maintenance and I'm curious to know what life will be like for me in a year. Thanks

  37. Just curious to hear what foods you've tried but can't tolerate anymore. I hear with gb you can't eat sugars (ie candy, candy bars, cake, ice cream, etc) anymore. I'm going to stick with that. I hope. I don't even want to try because if I try and I feel ok then I will eat more and get fat again. Also, just curious, if you get a craving for something your not supposed to have can you chew it then spit it out to satisfy the craving? Obviously not taking about ice cream. Dangit. Lol

I've seen this question before so it's probably in the archives but my energy level is incredibly low. I've been getting my protein in more than ever before as well as fluids and still...falling flat in the energy dept. How long does this last until some fashion of normalcy kicks in?

  39. So... long story but. My son is coming into town for my wife's brain surgery on the 11th. Our plan is to take them to a local pizza place to eat after we pick them up from the airport. (its really cool, good, and on the harbor here in SD). So far, I have eaten all the components of the topping of pizza, I.E. cheese, marinara sauce, tomato, etc... Thoughts on just scraping the top off a piece and eating it so they dont feel self conscious about eating ifo me? BTW, her tumor is beingn, it it just big and needs to come out. Prognosis is 100% recovery and only 2 days in the hospital

I started doing all my pre-op doctor appointments in March 2014. I had Cardiologist, Endoscopy, sleep study and Psychological visits all done in 3 1/2 months. The only problem found from all appoinments at that time was a mild case of sleep apnea and they discovered a few PVC's while I slept during the study. So went back to cardiologist and he put me on a Holter moniter for 21 days. On the the 16th day doctor called me in for immediate visit with some new results from the moniter. The night before he saw A-Fib not PVC's which has resulted in having to take Eliquis, Flecainide, and Beta Blocker meds. Also I just had an Eco Cardiogram which results were fine. So at th…

I'm so disappointed in myself. Every single month I fail miserably when it comes to that 'time' of the month. I download more carbs than iTunes downloads music! I still eat in small portions but I crave them terribly and can't seem to get it under control. I'm still losing, but I know if I don't get this resolved, having 75% of my stomach removed will have been done for nothing. Any suggestions?

  49. I had told my drs over and over I thought I had a stricture and they would not do an endoscopy. Just kept telling me that nothing like that showed up on the Upper GI. I can see the stricture and it is very closed off looking and it looks like there is something stuck there. It looks like one of my pills that had gotten me admitted into the hospital twice. It shows the dilation of the stricture which is sooooo much larger looking than before the dilation. Unbelievable. There is no wonder I couldn't eat and could barely drink! I was very angry after the endoscopy when they told me I had a stricture, but at the same time very grateful they were able to do somethin…
