daVinci robotic surgery anyone?

Recommended Posts

I will be having RNY surgery on the 16th of this month and I was just curious to see how many other folks were or will be operated on with the daVinci robotics procedure. Please share

I had a normal RNY surgery. At my bariatric surgery support group meeting I did bump into one person who had the surgery done with daVinci robotics. The operation went well with her. Anyways this approach is not very common.

Thanks James! Yes, it's not that common. I have been trying to get as much info as possible. I trust my surgeon, just hoping I can find some folks on here to ease my mind about the surgery! :-)

Hey, I'm scheduled for the 15th my surgeon is going to try with the robot but is preparing me for an open just in case he needs to open me up. I'm a little unsure of the robotics. Just me though. Good luck

Is there a reason he thinks he would have to do an open procedure?

Yes I've had two failed hernia repairs and there could be a possible gall bladder removal

Hi, Fab@@forty,

I have a scheduled webinar with Dr. Moazzer. He does the bypass with Da Vinci, right? I have also seen two other doctors just because I can't make up my mind up about which surgery type to go with? Bypass, Sleeve or none at all? It's all so overwhelming at this point. What helped you decide?

Hi Beni - Yes, Dr Moazzez uses the daVinci. I am no sure if that's his only method of performing the bypass and sleeve, but he did inform me that this was his method for me.

I personally chose the RNY because of my reflux. I have it off and on, but it's enough for me not to want to have it all the time and that's a known side effect for sleeve. Also, I do not believe that my insurance would have approved the sleeve, as some ins co still consider it "experimental."

You are correct in stating that it's overwhelming. My surgery is in 4 days and I am in knots! I'm excited, anxious and nervous all at once!

Good luck with your decision!

Oh my goodness 4 days. You are so brave.

I am thinking RNY is for me too because I am 265 and pre-diabetes. RNY offers the best resolution for diabetes. Of course, I worry about Vitamin deficiency and malabsorption but one of the doctors I saw at GWU told me those were from folks who keep forgetting to take their Vitamins and do not follow protocol post surgery. As you know it is crucial that we do.

I have read up on the Da Vinci. Pros and cons make it a wash. DaVinci less bleeding during surgery (35 cc less which isn't enough to make a difference, really) but regular laparoscopy takes slightly less time (less than 30 minutes shorter then DaVinci, blah! who cares, really)

Try to distract yourself to the max. Have fun in the next 4 days. It will go fast and then a new journey will begin.

Best wishes!

I had lap and with a daVinci 7 years ago and am scheduled for a lap band removal revision to RNY gastric bypass on the 17th. It was a great process. It really enables the surgeon to see around things that would be impossible to the eye alone. Healing is faster also. I hope this helps!! Where are you having it done?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
