I am private person when it comes to certain things. I have been getting questions about why am I going to be off work (taking 7 work days). I just said to take care of some business. I told a few people at work when I had the lapband done. I regret that sometimes because of the weight regain & people looking at me like "dang I thought u had WLS". They don't actually say that but the looks tell it all.

January 2009 I had the lap band surgery I only lost a total of 22 pounds. My lowest weight was 220 my highest is now 298 I have only gained and after having a baby my weight has gotten out of control. I knew I wanted a revision and the sleeve was my first choice but my surgeon said he would only revise to the RNY so now in 4 weeks I will be a new healthier me!!! My current weight is 255 and my surgeon wants me to "lose as much weight as possible" because he said it will be difficult to take the band out at my weight...has anyone elses dr advised them in the same manner? Also I am worried about recovery I am a stay at home mom of a 1 year old..not sure what to expect

Last night I started with this pain in my lower left abdomen. I had been constipated so I figured it was gas. I've gone to the bathroom all day today but the pain is no better. Should I be concerned or could this still be gas?

Have spoken with my surgeon about my methadone prescription and my immunity to narcotics. They will have to put me on a high dose of pain meds or I will feel pain....haven't used in six years but clearly I have to have pain meds as my dr feels the same way. He said he will tell my anasteshalogist that I need high doses then normal. Hope that works out..I, not nervous of surgey I enjoy it. Just don't wanna be in pain cause someone doesn't give me enough pain meds Anyone have this experience or hear of anything?

Hey...I had an ultrasound of my abdomen yesterday that showed a fatty liver. Now they want to do some sort of test to check my gallbladder.---------I haven't had RNY, but I did have the band since 07.------------I did what most people do in the "off" hours, check medical sites. Nothing is conclusive until I see my Dr and she tells me, whatever... But I must say I'm scared. I do not drink a drop and rarely ever did, but you can still get Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, especially if you weigh what I do. I've heard that surgeon's won't or can't do bariatric surgery if you have fatty liver. Then I read that the experts suggest 'slow" weight loss to recover. And then I sa…

6 weeks out and doing very well - but I admit that my will-power is waning some when it comes to food. I am really craving something chocolate - but "real" - not some chocolate flavored Protein drink. I am trying to avoid tv - the commercials simply make it worse. Oh look - a candy bar - pumpkin bread- brownie - cookie - pizza- ahhhhh. Does it get better from here? I am mostly still eating things that are in the soft or mushy category. chicken in any form except chicken salad is my nemesis. I can do very soft roasted veggies - and super crisp crackers in small amounts. So basically - all this to say - I am pretty limited on what it is that I can actually eat. …

I am just starting my journey and I feel that this site has some amazing people on here. So I figured I would put this out there just to be held accountable in my journey (I just started my 6 months doctor supervised diet last week). I have made the decision to not step on a scale in between doctors appointments. I want to focus on changing my eating habits before I worry about that darn number. I am already scaling back on the sweets and any other junk I do not need and since my first appointment with my surgeon on the 12th of August and my appointment with my doc last week, I am down a total of about 3.5 lbs. I know this is a small victory, but at least the scale is…

Okay, so I know it was not a wise, or healthy choice, but I just really wanted some carbs/sugar this morning. I ate the muffin from Dunkin Donuts - I think it had over 40grams of sugar in it.....I did have diarrhea twice within a few hours of eating it, but no other symptoms....is this dumping? I am bummed that I don't have really bad dumping with cramps, sweats, shakes etc....the awful thing is now I know I can eat sugar in moderation with little ill effects, so I will have to go back to "white knuckling it"....I really did myself a major dis-service today!!!

Hello I am almost 30 and I had my surgery in 2010 with generally no complaints. I had was 300 then went down to 150. Hi : I am new to this forum. Just had my band to bypass done on September 9th. Am feeling good, following all the rules etc. My question has to do with pain. The 3rd day was the most painful and the 4th day better. Pain has gotten much better except for my upper left abdomen right below my ribs. It's just a constant pain that is worse with movement, and when I sleep it will wake me up. I am just wondering if others have had the same problem. I know that is where the band was and where the new pouch is. Just wanting to hear that is normal. Of course, I am picturing everything bad! Everything else feels fine and no other issues at all. No nausea or vomiting or trouble getti…

Hello I am new here. I was going to have the gastric sleeve surgery, it was scheduled for October 23, so I was told to go for my blood work and see the dietician on Monday the 30th of Sept. I did that, when I went to meet with the dietician and I told her I was having the sleeve done she mentioned to me that since I already have acid reflux that the sleeve would not be a good choice for me, and that the roux en y surgery would be better. She said she has seen so many people get worse as far as acid reflux and that she would hate for this to happen to me. I had never been told this before. When I got home I called my surgeons office and asked if this is true and t…

I'm sitting here waiting for the vet to come and put my dog to sleep. Her kidneys are failing and she has a host of other health issues, too. It's time to do the right thing (but so hard!). We adopted Tally, our Dachshund, 14 years ago at the age of one. She's a beautiful, funny girl and we had all those good years with her. She's terrified of her vet's office so I have a mobile vet coming to the house in a half hour. She can die as peacefully as possible while I am holding her. Poor sweet little Tallybelle. :-(

OK so I had RNY 3 weeks ago and I'm doing just fine. I am wanting to get a new PCP now that I've had the surgery. I'm wanting someone that is familiar with bariatric surgery and what all I will be going through. I don't feel my current PCP is a good fit for me now that I've had RNY. My question is, what kind of PCP should I go to now? Is family practice ok or should I see general medicine, or internalist... I have no clue what kind of PCP would be the best choice... My surgeon gave me a few names of doctors he recommends but I'm not sure if they will be a good fit for me as most of them are older and I feel I won't be able to relate with them or connect with them... HELP …

I have terrible Migraines and my Asthma is not controlled. I think my Asthma has mostly to do with my weight and possibly the headaches. Has anyone that had the bypass done also suffer from these and saw resolution after your surgery? I am really hoping that once I have surgery, these issues will start clearing up as well as my sleep apnea, depression, and painful joints. Thank you

Does anyone take liquid vitamins instead of the chewable ones? I had a sample of this one at Costco and it looks like it would be good. http://www.ecodrink.com/ecodrink-daily.html. Maybe it would be good to drink in addtion to the chewables? Looks like Ecodrink make a priobiotic too. I'm still preop and am trying to come up with the best way to get my vitamins. I take a bunch now (have for years) and just want to get the most out of what I take.

I had bad experiences with the LapBand, I'm totally unfilled. I am 99% certain I will try the RNY. Still researching for information, experiences, etc. * I'm doing it for ME, but my husband is not so sure about it since I failed the Band. He is worried because 1. I'll be hospitalized. 2. I'm having major surgery 3. ( I think) He was traumatized by my past surgeries and doesn't want to feel that way again. 4. He's afraid that I will fail the RNY too. 5. (I think) He doesn't want to go through all the "food" changes again, 6. ( I think) He's afraid that I'll succeed. He is an alcoholic, seeing me do my thing with the RNY just magnifies his addiction. * There…

I was having a lot of pain at 10 days out. Could not take deep breaths and severe pain in upper abdomen. Went to the ER. They ruled out a PE and any leaks. Surgery wise everything looked good but had some fluid in lungs and inflammation of the lining of my lungs. I am definitely walking more and using my IS and pain is somewhat better. I think the fluid in my lungs is better but still very painful to breathe deep and can't lay on side because of pain. I researched a bit and assuming what I have is a bilateral pleural effusion. I am supposed to make an appt for one more week with my surgeon but am concerned the effusion won't get better without intervention. It is still ex…

Hi guys! For about a month maybe a week or so less, I've had what I thought might be reflux. It's the burning feeling of the acid, but I have a gnawing empty feeling in my belly at times and just feel blah. It's pretty close to the center of my belly above my belly button. I take Zantac twice a day and it takes the edge off but doesn't relieve it completely. I'm going to the dr this week but wondered if anyone else experienced anything like this too. Oh, I'm 2 years post op! Thanks all and good luck!!

I am new to GBT, in the research stage. I have had a LapBand in me since '07, unfilled. I am well educated about what the diet is for the Band, but am currently eating whatever I feel like. I've been told to try RNY by several people. I have about 130#'s to lose to be an average weight. ** I have yet to find someone who admits they are deeply addicted to food and the action of doing it, for coping reasons. Sure, people say they understand, or feel the same way, but they don't. ** I suffer from Chronic Depression, a Dissociative Disorder, PTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder. In therapy, on meds. Normal to the people who are not in the therapist's office or hom…

Has anyone ever been told they were big boned and would never be skinny? I've been told this my whole life and I do have broad shoulders so I'm a little afraid that when I do lose it won't look like it or ill still look big. I'd just like to be able to wear bracelets or a watch. And maybe be able to pull off a halter top or strapless once in my life.

I am about 3.5 weeks out from revision of band to bypass. I feel like food, thoughts of food, exercise, MFP, Fitbit are consuming every waking moment. I just can't relax and enjoy the journey. I was self pay, so that is part of it....I am just so afraid that I won't lose this weight. I have "tested" myself in the last week with fat and sugar to see "what would happen". I think my dumping is more of a general feeling like crap, headache, cramps, super tired. I ate a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup yesterday and today I gained 1.5 lb. I am going to Overeaters Anonymous trying to get my addiction in check. I am just practically paralyzed with fear that I won't lose 100 lb …
