My mother was a farm girl, and when she was a little bit older, she became a cook at a nearby restaurant. She said they made her a cook because she wasn't pretty enough to be a waitress. Looking back on this statement she made, and others about her weight and looks, I really think she changed the way I looked at myself as a child. My mother was a wonderful mother. Always there, stay at home mom (she quit her job to be with myself and my 2 younger sisters), made my lunch every single day of my school career up until my last day of senior year. For some reason, my mother had low self esteem. She was overweight, not morbidly so but, enough to notice. And she did go grey fairly early in life and she didn't seem to mind and never died her hair the entire time I was in high school. Now I see that her low self-esteem rubbed off on me. I have pictures with family and I'm not smiling but I looked to be a normal weight (I was in 6th or 7th grade). I remember thinking, "I'm so fat today!" I hope I can give my daughter a better view of herself.
