Hi March, 2013 group. My surgery date was March 22nd at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. My excellent surgeon was Hazem N. Shamseddeen. My surgery went great, and I'm struggling with getting-down the daily protein supplement powder and chewable calcium citrate requirements. I look forward to sharing ideas and encouragement with you all.

Hi all, Just after a bit of advice from anyone that has had this happen to them; I think I’ve hit a brick wall, I’ve been stuck at 105kg for the last couple of weeks. I monitor/log what I eat every day (Aiming for 1200 calories and 60-100g protein) I know that Im not 100% perfect in what I eat but I think Im pretty good at making the right choices. My daily food intake looks like this.. Breakfast – Protein shake or 2 boiled eggs lunch – Smoked Tuna slices on wholegrain crackers dinner – salmon/fish/steak/chicken 100g with maybe a tiny bit of veg Snacks – smoked almonds/Greek yoghurt/protein bars with zero carbs/fruit I also exercise 4-5 times a week. I know…

Im approved and scheduled but I'm scheduled way out in December. How is recovery? I scheduled so far out because it work full time and I'm in school finishing my masters this year. I can move my date up but I'm afraid of losing ground in classes. Preop diet? I didn't have one with the band but it's requires for bypass. I'm so excited! I can't wait to get this thing out of my body and eat real food again!

So, I'm sure I'm not the only one but, I really like my food. It just plain tastes good. So, I keep picturing this turning out that (when I'm able) I'm going to eat a couple bites of something I love and just want more. So my question is, if I were to take those few bites, would I REALLY feel full and actually NOT want anymore? I just find that hard to believe. I mean, is it not as much a matter of will power to not eat it or do you really not want anymore?

Hi everyone, I had my surgery Wednesday morning and everything went well. I came home yesterday and the pain isn't too bad, I just feel generally icky. I'm sorry I didn't post sooner but I tend to keep to myself when I feel like this. I am thirsty and want to drink more than I am allowed. I've always drank a lot so 4 ounces an hour isn't great for me at all. I feel kind of nauseas and I definitely don't want to eat. Everything tastes sickening sweet to me. I tried some tomato Soup last night and that tasted good but my stomach hurt after because I drank some Water with it so I went over the 4oz. So far today I've had water and a bariatric Vitamin and that's it. …

Hey gang! Looking for anyone in metro that can offer any insight into Park Nicolett bariatric center. Have my first 3.5 hour set of appointments on the 28th...I see Dr Demattia that day too. Won't see the surgeon until a later date it seems. Just wondering what your experience was there if nothing else. Thanks!

Hello, I've been banded since 2010. I've been steadily gaining weight over the past year, have no restriction even with several fills in the past few months and I have been experiencing a lot of reflux and incessant hiccups. I had an Upper GI Series last week and an Upper Endoscopy yesterday and my band has slipped up to the base of my esophagus in the cardia region. I've only heard of the band slipping down with the stomach sliding up over the band. Has anyone ever had their band slip up?

I'm 1 week out of surgery and I noticed today that I can't really tell if I'm full or not when I eat. I had almost 1/2c of puréed soup and I didn't feel I was full but I stopped anyway. Am I eating too much at this stage? Or is this normal?

I am still in the starting phase and debating between sleeve and roux en y. The surgeon recommends bypass for all his patients over the sleeve. I guess I am still scared of the bypass. I meet for my one on one the 26th so I can discuss it more then. I am 5'5 and 245 lbs. did anyone else fall into this category or a 41 bmi?

I had lapband surgery in March of 2004 and now am exploring the idea of a revision to gastric bypass surgery. I have been very fortunate not to have any complications from the band, I just haven't used it the way it was meant and since I'm so far into the game the chances of me losing more weight are very slim. I just discovered that my health insurance plan will exclude bariatric surgery beginning April 1, 2012. so, on a whim I decided to attend a surgical weight loss seminar sponsored by the healthcare system that I work for. The surgeon seems optimistic that he can remove the band, get my 3 month medically supervised diet complete, and get an authorization from my insu…

I am having a band to bypass revision on Monday and I am so worried that I will fail yet again! I have been eating horribly (don't have to do a pre-op diet) - my liver is probably getting fattier by the minute! What if I can't do this - I mean lose weight? What if this doesn't work for me? What if I can't change my lifestyle? I want to be healthy and fit, but food is/has been so important in my life. I am just plain scared.....Am I gonna go postal when I can't eat an oreo? Will I be happy eating 5 bites of Thanksgiving dinner? I am going with it, and hoping that in time, with every pound I lose, this new lifestyle will develop and I will gain a healthy relationshi…

I went for my pre op blood work last week and my surgery is Sept. 4th. So the nurse called and said my sugar is 290 and needs to be down by the 4th or they will reschedule my surgery. UGHHH!!!! I am taking my meds and sugar is being so stubborn. Normally my meds work. I even increased the dosage. I do not want to go on insulin 3 weeks from my surgery. Maybe if I start the liquid diet a week early and do 3 weeks instead of 2 and add more exercise it will be down in time.

Hello, my cursor is not splitting paragraphs, etc. so bare with run on sentences please.........I have questions, etc........I'm a Bander looking for a revision.......I've been lurking for a while now, googling and yahooing myself to death and reading articles to get as much info as I can.........I know the rules, risks and rewards of RNY........What I want to know is 1. How much do all the vitamins and supplements cost a month? 2. After a long time, can I take a bite of sugary foods? 3. Is the long term diet somewhat flexible, within reason? 4. HOW do you get 60-80gms of protein in you? Food only goes so far. 5. Is it all worth it cutting your stomach out forever? The st…

Having my surgery in a little more than 24 hours, and feeling confused and discouraged by something my surgeon said when I was there last. I am getting revision surgery from the sleeve to the bypass, my BMI is currently 33. Doc says he does the bypass more or less based on BMI, and because I am a "lightweight", he will only bypass a little bit(?) thus not causing much malabsorption. He worries that I will lose too much weight otherwise. I begged him to do it as if I was a 44 (where I started), otherwise, to me, I don't see a point of revising my sleeve into essentially just another sleeve if there is no malabsorption. I didn't think too much of this in the office but as …

I called my insurance company before making my first appointment with the surgeon. They said my insurance covered bariatric surgery for people with a BMI over 40(which I have). As the time nears to submit the paperwork to insurance, I'm getting very nervous. My question is has anyone been told by their insurance company that they covered the surgery and then been denied?

I am at my 6 week post op mark. On my last visit I was only down 22 pounds total. I was told that was "average" loss. I am frustrated right now because tomorrow I have my checkup and I don't want to hear that same old well that's average loss. Is it wrong to think that every pound lost is a good thing? Should I not be able to celebrate and feel happy with my "average" weight loss?

I've had a much better day today and it has been wonderful not to feel sick all day! The surgeon told me that the nausea will come on and off for a while. That sucked to hear. However, I am feeling better for now and starting to get excited about losing the weight. I am not at all hungry but I still am sitting here thinking about food I wish I could eat. I am sure my missing food will last a good long while. I want to thank all you guys on here that have supported me. I think a lot of the reason I was less sick today was that I didn't try to force myself to drink a protein shake. I'm just not ready for all that. You guys let me know it was ok to not be able to e…

I had my surgery the 7th of August. Yesterday after taking 4 Tylenol 3's, I began to have headaches, Nausea, heart palpitations, shortness of breath and I felt my lungs were closing. I went to the closest emerge last night and the doctor concluded nothing, maybe just stress related. He took an ECG, blood work and an x-ray and concluded nothing. I went home prayed to God I wasn't going to die and fell asleep. This morning I woke up and the headache was gone and the pain was a little less. Afternoon came and I started to feel same symptoms again- but more nauseous! ( I have not taken T3's again) so I went to the pharmacy and grabbed Gravol, hope it works! Has anyone…

I came home from the hospital on Friday after gastric bypass revision from lapband on Tuesday and I had gained 19#'s. I know that it is from all the fluids given to me while in the hospital, but it still feels like a set back. I was very swollen and that has gone down and I have lost 17 of the 19#'s. but it looks like at my one week f/u on Thursday I will probably just barely be below weight day of surgery? Did anyone else experience this.?

So I'm just curious about how much excess/loose skin people have been experiencing? I'm 25 5'6" and 240 lbs. My surgery is scheduled for September 24th and even if I have a lot of loose skin ill just be thrilled to improve my fertility and functionality! Is there anything I can do to improve the chances of helping my skin tighten up a little? I plan on exercising regularly and staying hydrated. Any other tips?

I was banded may 31, 2011 in Cali. Left out of state a two wks later this was the biggest mistake of my life. Texas medical did not cover any dr spots to be seen or fills. So I only lost 8lbs in two yrs. So I revised on July 19th 2013 to gastric bypass and lost practically all my goal weight already:)
