Hi everyone, Well, my surgery is 8/7 and yesterday and today I just feel blah and kind of full of trepidation combined with denial. It's just a general funk. I am not sure what it's all about. I am afraid I will fail that is certain and I look at some posts on here with people failing a few months in after gastric bypass, it scares me more. I also feel unprepared but like I could never possibly be prepared. I feel anxious and really really quiet and distracted. Quiet is definitely weird for me. At this point, I'm hungry (this is day 7 of the pre op diet). I've lost 15.5 lbs on this ten day pre op diet but I feel really empty, both in my stomach and mentally. I …

So excited my hubby got on board with me having the revision! i am self pay, so it is a significant investment in me, and I did not really "prove" myself with the band when I gained back all I lost over the past several years! August 19 is the birth of a new me. - I hope!

I am getting closer to my revision date of 8/19! I am excited and nervous.....how much harder/longer was your recovery from bypass vs. the band? I think with my band I was back to work after about 4 days....I am guessing there will be a lot of muscle soreness at the site of the port removal....I was banded in 2005, so there will be a lot of scar tissue.....

It's so weird to see bones poking out... Where fat used to be... Lol my feet look boney!!! Ha Just another mind blowing moment... Must be Friday!!!

I have 4 incisions, but the one is large swollen area above it and It is hard...has anyone had a hematoma? Im not sure what it is but cant figure why only one area is like this..large swollen hard and painful..no coloration...thanks

Hi out there, I'm 17 months out, down 150+ lbs. and feeling fantastic. I've noticed I'm getting a little hungrier now and can eat more before filling up. My Nut. says at this stage my pouch is approx. 10 ozs. I've stabilized at 190- 192 and I'm really pretty bony. Still, it scares me a little with the added hunger. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My surgeon required prilosec 2x/day for the 1st 3 months post-op. I finished taking it early last week. Since Friday I have been very bloated, can eat about 1/2 of what I have been eating, and belching almost constantly. Friday and Saturday my stomach was upset all day, but today it feels fine aside from the bloat. It kind of seems like an ulcer, anyone else have ideas? I see my surgeon next thursday and they cannot see me before then.

Any suggestions on what food items I need to have in my house for when I get home besides protein shakes and vitamins?

As long as everything goes through smoothly, I am set to have surgery August 15th. I am so nervous and excited all at the same time. I really cannot wait!! Good luck to everyone!

I'm on day 4 of this liquid diet and I think I'm going through all the same stages of grief you go through with death and dying. A little out of order but grief all the same! First day I was like, I can do this it's no big deal because I"ll look great! hellooooo denial! Yesterday I was depressed. I just felt sad for no real apparent reason. Today I am really angry! I'm up to swearing at my shaker bottle with those damn Protein shakes lol. Wow am I in a bad mood I guess I"m grieving what I perceive to be the end of good food.

Hello All! I was banded in '09 and was having issues as well as not losing and gaining even being tight. My Dr. want me to convert to either sleeve or bypass (sleeve being his preference I believe). Anyway it was my preference. I was scheduled for pre-op this week and band removal on the 6th of this month. Due to my B/P that's too high, He wants me to get a clearance from my personal Dr. I'm glad I took time to check out these posts while waiting for my appt. b/c I'm finding out that there are some folks that still have to have bypass after being sleeved. I regret that I chose the band over bypass anyway, so even though my Dr. said that I could still convert to bypass…

So my band to bypass revision is 8/19. I joined WW 2 weeks ago to kick start my weight loss, and as a structure for changing my eating habits, but in the last two weeks I have eaten so much crap - stuff I will never get to have again - including 8 doughnuts today! I am so afraid this means I will be a failure! I can't spend $21k and go thru this surgery to fail yet again, but why can't I get it together????

Hi, my name's Amber Rose and I had the gastric bypass in Sept of '02. My surgent was Dr. Mittchell of Pinehurst, North Carolina. I weighed 285 and dropped to 140 in 2 years. Over the past few years, I dealt with some pretty heavy things, which made me gain 80 lbs. There were deaths, a job loss, seperation and family issues that helped the weight creep back on. Hey... I live 30 miles North of Pgh PA and am looking for a buddy or mentor. My surgery is scheduled for August 8th so I am getting close. I am both nervous and excited!

Wow, it's been a strange couple of weeks. Until I met my surgeon a couple of weeks ago, I had planned on lap band. He discouraged me because of his research, and that of others, that lap band was not as successful long term as either VSG or RNY. So, after going into my own research mode, I decided that I'd rather have VSG than RNY unless the EGD showed that it would be better to go RNY. Well, today was the EGD and it turns out that I have Barrett's Esophagus and a hernia. Anyone else with Barrett's? Any suggestions?

I've been wearing the same two pairs of xxl stretch pants for like 8 months now and I finally decided to suck it up and go jean shopping. I ended up having a damn breakdown in the dressing room because I've managed to go from size 20 to size 24 in less than a year! Agghh!!! I feel awful. I knew I had put on 20 lbs, but didn't realize I had also added so many inches. I know, It's common sense, but I just didn't want to face the fact that everyone else could tell too All of my pre-op requirements will be done August 8th, so I'm praying for insurance to approve me quickly so I can get a date in September.

I will love to pair up with someone from my city, it's good to have a friend or someone who's going or gone thru this surgery!!! Guidance

Do you dump when you eat high fat food like cheese? Butter?

My first appointment (consultation) was supposed to be on August 28th, however the hospital called this morning and I go on Friday! Now I'm really nervous for some reason. Anything I should be sure to asked about during this first visit? Thanks!

Just received my approval letter from my insurance company.. I started my journey in April and my surgery date is August 20.... Reading the letter just makes everything feel so real now, i have that excited and nervous feeling.... i know i am doing the right thing but its making me question my self......

Hi guys. I'm about three months post op and in the last two weeks I have had super bad heart burn three times. I had it real bad prior to the surgery but thought it was my lap band causing it. It is worse than when I've gone to the emergency room for it. It helps after taking tums but if I don't have any with me I am in tears and I feel it through my whole chest, back and shoulders. Is any one else having an issue. I though rny was supposed to stop this?

Is anyone else concerned about substitute addictions? I worry about why I feel the need to replace overrating with overspending or a few more ativan than I really need. Does the complusion go away after surgery?

Well, I just took my "before" pics (my surg is in 5 days). I always avoid cameras and I am truly shocked to see myself now. I was unaware of my true size. Come on 5 days.....

I have a date (August 6th) but waiting for the insurance approval. I am so nervous. I wish I knew it was approved. I have an appointment on the 19th to sign my papers. I think until then I won't feel like this is really going to happen for me.

I am having my surgery June 12th. trying to get a rough idea on what are the medications i may possibly be being perscribed upon my release from the hospital ( i know everyone is diffrent and i am NOT!!! seaking medical advice). I've been thinking alot about the things I want to do with my kids after I have my surgery. I want to ski, hike, teach my girls ballet and softball, and play basketball with my boys. What are some of your favorite things to do with your kids that you couldn't do before surgery?

I am able to not worry about eating or being hungry a home with no problem (I'm active too!). I pack my food for work with no problem. Being at work, however, makes me want to eat! I'm a librarian for goodness sakes and parts of my job are fun. Why am I so mentally hungry when im at work and doing stuff there? Fellow May post ops, Just wanted to start a thread to see how everyone is dealing with life after surgery. I am finally getting use to eating, taking my Vitamins, Protein, and maintaining my Fluid amounts (this was the hardest for me). When I first had the surgery it was difficult for me to deal with the social aspect of this surgery, such as going to the movies with out getting Snacks or sugary drink or meeting up with friends for a drink or dinner and not being able to enjoy the same things. Do you ever get hungry. - like tummy growling hungry?? Like empty feeling in the pit of your stomach hungry? How does full feel? Like after a big thanksgiving dinner, or just a tightness in your chest?

I got to thinking and thought I'd ask this. The ppl here who have been overweight their whole life its a struggle. One thing I've noticed is my thinner friends stopped talking to me completely, no biggie. I want to know since your post op find anything on your body that you like. Mine is my legs and my neck. Before I had the cushion syndrome type body and now I don't. I actually got a tattoo to put on the nape of my neck and said well thats perm and gaining weight its gonna look bad. I've did a lot to inspire myself to go on.

I have question and it is purely for curiosity's sake. First let me say that I know everyone is different. The rate we lose can be dependent on so very many factors like age, starting weight, health conditions, activity levels, nutrition, how well we follow instructions, and even how much we drink. Also, let me say I am not complaining about my weight loss. I am happy with my results so far and I am confident that I will continue my downward trend for quite some time. Hello everyone! I am 36 and just joined the RNY Talk site a couple weeks ago. I will be having RNY on August 15th and I really cannot wait!! I have lots of appointments in the upcoming 2 weeks and its gets me more and more closer to the big day. A little about me... from upstate NY, married, mom of 2 teenage girls and work 10 months out of the year as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant for a local public school district. I have battled with weight for as long as I remember and this surgery is going to give me the tools to reach my goals in life. I look forward to getting to know all of you on here

My BMI is 33 and I have GERD so I was approved for gastric bypass. Can I expect a substantial weight reduction? Anyone else a low BMI patient? I still need to lose 50-60 lbs.

Well, nothing's coming off. Ve been gaining and losing the same 7 pounds since January. I think I've fizzled out on weight loss. Still down 120 pounds so I'm not complaining. Just thought So'd get more than 4 months of quick loss. The person who had surgery the same day has also stopped. How's everyone else from August doing? How long did you lose weight? Anyone still seeing the scale drop?

I have read a lot of posts from non-revision rny folks about throwing up and having food get stuck. Is this the same kind of thing that I experience nearly daily with my band? I don't want to live a life of getting stuck, sliming, and puking with rny....is it different????
