RnY on Low BMI?

My BMI is 33 and I have GERD so I was approved for gastric bypass. Can I expect a substantial weight reduction? Anyone else a low BMI patient? I still need to lose 50-60 lbs.

Hello! You are at a 33 BMI and they approved you? Wow, normally you have to be a 35 before they will consider you. I am right at 35 and have a few issues, one being GERD and diabetes. I have about 65-70lbs to lose. I'm just starting out. What insurance company do you have?

I have United HealthCare HMO :) I was approved after the first letter. The Doc said that they probably assumed I would be at a 35 in no time if they didn't do it, so they would rather approve it now. He also said that there are going to be new insurance requirements soon (all insurance), where you only have to have a BMI of 30.

Wow! Rare.

Congrats! Hope everything goes smoothly for you.
