Hey! I'm 25 and I just started my journey. I go for my first seminar tomorrow. This is my second time trying this out I began the process last time but with school I decided to wait. Now I'm finished with school and I couldn't be more excited to get this started! I'm hoping to have surgery this summer and could use all the support available.

I have not had surgery yet...I actually just had my first consultation this morning. I'm just wondering if everyone who has had(or will have) gastric bypass has told their friends and family? And do you regret the decision you made about telling or not telling? Has anyone you've told been unsupportive?

I'm 5 years out and steadily gaining my weight back. I'm now post menopausal with a stressful, desk job. I try to get out to walk daily but even that takes committment to pull myself away from my desk. I don't really have any problems with any foods, never had. I've never thrown up post surgery and felt like my impulse to eat was stronger than the surgery! Anyone in the same boat? Were you able to turn it around? I am so embarrassed because everyone knows I've had surgery and is watching me gain the weight back. WTH??!!

It's funny. Before my surgery, the vast majority of the comments I received about my plans was negative. "Why would you do that?" "I have a (friend/relative/etc) who had the surgery and (insert bad outcome)" "You don't look big enough to need it." "I could never do that to myself." etc. Hence I decided not to tell anyone at work. Now that I'm back from my leave and visibly thinner, I have had nothing but positive feedback. "You look fantastic!" "It's not just your size, you just look happier!" "Can you tell me more about it? I've always been interested in getting it." etc. Most of all, I've been a little overwhelmed by the kindness others have shown me, and by …

I've been on Optifast for 2 1/2 weeks now - with no cheating. That doesn't mean I haven't thought about it, but darn it I know what I'm working towards and I can do it! I have, however, had wicked cravings and tonight was REALLY, REALLY hungry and just wasn't paying attention until my husband brought it up. It went something like this: Husband: "Dear, what are you staring at?" Me: "Huh?" Husband: "Dear, stop staring." Me: "What?" Clinton (our 17 yr old): "Stop it, mom" Me: "What?" Husband: "You're staring at his dinner and it's not helping." Me (looking up): "Who says it's not helping?" Husband: "Go have a popsicle" Me: " I don't want a frigging pop…

My doc says because I had my big loss of 70 lbs. with band that I would probably not have a fast or as big of a loss. I am on regular diet now and everything I try I have not had any trouble. Which is like night and day from the band , I would slime, throw up daily and have stomach pains, chest pains, the stuck feeling for 31/2 years!!!! I eat 3 4oz. Meals a day and at least 2 protein shakes a day and at least 64oz. Water a day and my vitamins faithfully!!! I'm only 5 '0" 43 years old my highest pre band weight was 229 and lowest was 155 . I had a regain las…

Met with the surgeon to ask more questions, and wanted to know if he would do a "proximal or distal" bypass. He says nowadays everyone has a proximal bypass meaning less small intestine is bypassed (I think?)....like only 30 cm......he says there is very little actual malabsorption.....it is primarily restrictive. Really? How much did you have "bypassed"

Hello everyone, I've been reading the boards for quite some time but I never felt the courage to join until now. I have never been comfortable talking about my weight but I guess here would be the best place. I have been battling my weight since my childhood. I was never the never a really big kid, just slightly thicker than the other girls. It has followed me into my adult hood. I have let my weight hold me back from many things. Ive tried different diets and pills and always gained the weight back. I had never really researched weight loss surgeries until recentily. I realized that I will never be fulliy happy until I am happy with myself, and the excess weight is why…

I've been having such a hard time this past week or two, I have rheumatoid arthritis & since my surgery in Jan, I took myself off the prednisone, because it increases your appetite, but I have been having a lot of swelling because of the heat & humidity we've been having on the east coast. So I had to start taking it again, but I'm rattling ALL THE TIME! Even when I'm not hungry I find myself in the kitchen looking for something to eat, I've been trying to make smart choices , like fruit, sugar free jello, tuna, protein drinks, but I never feel satisfied. I stopped taking it again I'm terrified of gaining weight back, I've lost 109lbs, I got used to loosing 15-20l…

This whole pre-op waiting is making the hairs (that will probably fall out after surgery) grey. Im usually so positive- but not today lol. I am on a 6 month pre-op program. I had my initial consult with the doc, my endoscopy, my psyc, my sleep study (still more to do here...), and I see the dietician in a class every month. Jeez. It seems kind of like an oxymoron to learn all of these things I should be doing now..(nutrition wise)...just to have them tell me it will be totally different after surgery. REALLY?!?!?!?! Just give me the dang surgery and I will do those things rather than change once, then do it again later. Sorry- just frustrated. Perhaps looking back it …

Well, I have surgery on July 16. Will physically be at work for one more week. After surgery, I will be working from home. Between that and going to the gym and sipping/walking/sipping/walking. I'm a bit nervous I guess because this surgery is no joke. Its really serious and the aftermath is serious and painful. I had knee replacement a few years ago and purposely did NOT research what I was getting into. I just knew I was quickly becoming a cripple with that bad knee and it had to be fixed or I couldnt bowl anymore (league bowling is what I do when I'm not at work!!!!). So the knee rehab took me by surprise and I didnt realize how painful that was gonna be but I g…

I am so afraid of failing......I failed with the lapband - lost 60 pounds in 2005 and after 2 babies (plus two more preg. That resulted in miscarriage) I have gained all my weight back. How will I be able to do this any differently? I would be so disappointed in myself if I was an RNY failure...whether failing to lose any, or gaining back......any words of encouragement are greatly appreciated!

I've been trying on the clothes in my closet and I've weeded out a bunch of them. I'll be happy to give them away to anyone who might get some use out of them. I have summer tops - a few 2X, a bunch of 1X, and some slacks in 22W and 20W. Some things are new, with tags. I am short, so the slacks won't help anyone who is tall. I'm in southeastern RI near the southeastern MA border and can get them to anyone in this area. Message me if you're interested.

Hi my name is Sandra and I had my gastric bypass surgery in 2002 and since I have had soon many complications from having a pic line because of mal nutrition on 3 occasions. Then hospital stays mainly because of my first doctor doing many patients surgeries wrong and he had a huge medical malpractice suit against him. In 2009 I had it revised and fixed I was doing good for awhile but this past year has been crazy from being in a hospital for a month to having a gtube... I was just wondering has anyone had any serious bed ridden complications like myself? But mainly has anyone had their surgery reversed? I'm seriously thinking about having it reversed and maintaining my we…

I really don't know how much longer I can live in severe pain like this. Got up this morning and tried to drink got down my protein smoothy but the pain has literally not lifted at all. I have hit such a bad point I'm now drinking wine to make it stop. I have neither quality or quantity of life left. Searched down Walgreens to see what script I have I could possibly get filled out of pocket and I have nothing. I have an appt tomorrow, but I'm not sure how its gonna go. If I didn't have children and an amazing guy holding me up y'all I'd give up and die I'm to that point. This really blows. I can't be admitted because I refuse to make ppl take time off work for me yet agai…

Hi All! I had RNY on June 3rd, so I'm one month post op and 27 pounds down counting pre op diet loss. I was on 500 mg Metformin once daily for insulin resistance before surgery, but decided to stop it myself because I was worried about low blood sugar. My surgeon didn't tell me to get off and I see my GP in 3 weeks. I'm wondering if I should go back on? I'm reading about faster losses with Metformin. Any experiences to share?

Hi everyone, I've been thinking a lot this weekend about why I want to have WLS and what I'd like to do when I've lost my excess weight. Here's my top 5 as of today. What's your top 5? 1. I would like live for as long as I can and not have my weight up my risk of dying too young. 2. I would like to shop for regularly sized clothes and not pay the "fat tax" for plus sizes. 3. I would like to have a better recovery and outcome from my second ankle surgery. 4. I can't wait to comfortably fit into an airline seat, diner booth and my DH's Mini Convertible. 5. I would like to become SCUBA certified before a planned trip to Hawaii in 2014 and perhaps try zip lining o…

The key to controlling and eventually eliminating the worldwide obesity epidemic is understanding the underlying causes of the problem in the first place. This article offers some deeply thought provoking ideas and insights into this very serious threat. Broad in scope and exceptionally well written, this article is a great first step. The following are just a few excerpts from the article. I highly recommend clicking on the "Full Article" link to read more. Truly excellent. "With a decline in the number of smokers, obesity has emerged as the main source of many of the pathologies that reduce the quality and length of Irish lives. But where does the lack of restraint …

Ok, so I know that upon undergoing any wls one must "change his lifestyle toward eating healthy". I just don't understand how that happens when we have gone thru our lives unable to "change our lifestyle" in order to lose weight and keep it off....how does having bypass really help in the LONG RUN with that?? I don't want to go thru surgery just to gain my weight back...

Well, I've apparently caught the stomach bug that's been going around my house. I should have called my surgeon's office but I was pretty out of it all day. I had my bypass May 9. I can't keep any solids down and it seems all I can do is sip on water so I'm worried about keeping hydrated. Can I do a drink like Gatorade or is that too sugary? Any other advice on how to stay hydrated? Thanks!
