guess i should be clear up front that i don't mean the actual surgery because, as far as i know, my insides aren't any different than any other woman. i mean with acceptance - before and after. i went to have my psychological assessment and we got to talking about the disproportionate occurrence of obesity in the lesbian community (my psych's gay). i surmised that there's not as much pressure in the lesbian community to look a certain way in order for someone to find you attractive (no science behind it; just my thought). then i got to thinking about my decision to move forward with RnY and wondered if i'll be judged differently by different communities? so my fri…

New here! Ive had the band since 2005. Saw a new doc last week in hopes of getting a revision done. He wants me to have bypass when i was originally considering the sleeve. I have an endoscopy scheduled in april...i vomit quite often and have a dialated pouch. He said bypass is a better option. I have MVP insurance. They do not cover revision surgerys unless something is deemed life threatning. Will be going thru pre-op testing again and then will try to get mvp to cover it. If not luckily my job offers bcbs too but would need to wait til open enrollment. Either way the band will be out this year. Doc says body has to heak for 3-6 months before they would be about to go b…

I have borderline personality disorder, depression, PCOS and general back pain otherwise my cholestrol and blood sugar is normal. I'll be going to an informational meeting next week about surgery, but I'm looking to prepare myself ahead of time as to the process pre-op that you had to go through. Any info is greatly appreciated!! Thanks! MP

I am scheduled for surgery 3/14. I previously committed to attending a function 2 weeks after surgery. it will be a 6 hour drive and I will be there for about four days. I am traveling by vehicle and just wondering if anyone has traveled that soon after surgery? Any tips on traveling? I'm not worried about attending the function itself as I can rest in a room whenever needed. Plus I will have a refrigerator available for my use for protein drinks, etc. I am more worried about the drive itself. :/

Is there someone out there who could tell me when I will actually see dramatic weightloss? I had my bypass/gall bladder removed 11-21-12 (and of course a week liquid diet prior)...lost 16 lbs from the liquid diet, gained 11 lbs from anaesthesia, lost those again so I know can say I have lost 17 total pounds since my pre op liquid diet... I'm confused...

So I am exactly 2 weeks away from my surgery date. It seemed soooo far away when I started planning for it. Thank God everything has gone well. I saw my surgeon today to go over lab results and he asked that I get an ultrasound to make sure I don't have gallbladder stones, he says it is better to get it removed at the same time if there were any stones. I've read this is pretty common. He is also taking care of a hiatal hernia, which is actually how all this began. Bypass was never an option for me (or so I thought) and here I am, posting about surgery coming sooner than expected.... I am soooo happy and excited about the new and healthier me coming soon!

  22. As I'm sure most of you ex banders, you probably had to battle between the bypass or the sleeve. I have spoke with three different Bariatric surgeons and I have gotten differing opinions of which surgery I should do. One thing I know for sure is I want my band out. But I don't want the same symptoms I had with the band to occur with this new surgery. One doctor says if you get the sleeve then you will still have the reflux. But the bypass is a larger surgery and may have longterm risks. How did you decide which one to do? Any help would be appreciated it!

It's been a rough day today. Actually, it's been a rough 25 weeks! Some may already know my "story," so I'll just be quick with it. 25 weeks ago, I had the vertical sleeve done. Right away, there were problems. I couldn't keep liquids down. I was told it was a stricture, and had numerous endoscopies done, to no avail. I ended up literally standing constantly, when I wasn't sleeping, in order to let gravity pull liquid through my sleeve so I could stay away from Urgent Care. Finally, on December 17 I was converted to RNY. I can't tell you how difficult it was to go back into the hospital knowing I had to go through all the discomfort again, not to mention my just actual fe…

Hoeing to submit to insurance by the middle of March and have my wls in April. Would love to have some people to talk with and support. Although i'm not having RNY I will be having what's called the Duodenal Switch (not too many people have this so no support forums I can find) hopefully you walk will still be a supportive as I and we can go through this wls process together! Thanks!

Apparently my mom was under the impression that I'd be staying with her after surgery. I never even discussed it with her, so it's not like we had planned that. But I had to tell her that I'm going to be staying at my boyfriends house. She said that's fine as long as someone is taking care of me. I don't buy it. I know my mom and I think the fact that I'm not staying with her hurt her feelings. I have several good reasons why I don't want to stay with her. She has a lot of health problems and I feel like I'd be taking care of her more than she'd be taking care of me. Also, my bf lives 2 minutes away from the surgeons office and the hospital, whereas mom lives 20-30 minute…
