I am about a month away from surgery and I'm kind of freaking out. I'm afraid that my brain is not going to be able to tell me when I'm full. Do you really stop being hungry for no reason? When you get full do you stay full??

Lately I have been feeling down. In 2 months I have only lost 45 lbs. I thought it would be more. I thought I would lose faster. I am trying to get the stupid Protein in but I can't hold anything down. Freakin chips & dip goes down great, I learned that with tortilla strips and guacamole. Greeaaat, right. Why can I get that down fine but not a Protein Drink? I've tried so many different brands. Then dealing with a hell of a kidney stone. I still have 100 lbs to lose, I just don't want to lose ky muscle tone in the process and if I can't get the protein that's what's gonna happen. I have a lot more energy than I did a month ago. I still firmly stand by my decision to…

I'm on my first day of eating yogurt, sugar-free pudding, and cream of wheat/rice ( second week post-op). My instructions are to eat 3, 2 tablespoons to 1/4cup meals per day ( besides water and stuff from the first week). Well, I did really well for the first two, eating cream of rice for the first two meals (eating slowly) but then for dinner I ate a whole Greek plain nonfat yogurt! Which was obviously more than 1/4 cup. Probably 1/2 cup or a full cup. I ate it over maybe 15 mins excpecting to eventually feel full at some point but I didn't! So, what do you think? (I had Rou-En-Y)

Does anyone out there have PCOS? My 20 year old daughter does. She is going to have revision surgery from band to bypass. We didn't know that the band isn't very effective for women with PCOS. How do you handle mood swings, and sleep problems? Does PCOS go away post surgery? Thanks! Christi

Wow - I've been expecting someone to develop this for quite some time. This new app has been released by Geisinger Health System and was developed by a professor and students from Bucknell University. It's called "Get-2-Goal" and is free from the Apple iStore. Christopher Still, Director of Geisinger Obesity Institute explains "The most useful function of this app is that it ensures patients are fully informed and have realistic expectations after their procedure." The app allows you to track weight loss with charts and graphs, email them to your doctor, and export the data to Excel. Great job Geisinger and Bucknell!! http://newsitem.com/news/geisinger-develops-gastric-…

I'm new to the site and looking for info. Hubby's planning on bypass after first of the year. Very scared about pre and postoperative side effects. Have heard a lot of different stories. Dietician makes it sound like a terrible alternative "you'll be on more meds after than you are now". Scared, worried, confused!

Hello my name is Sarah. So I'm turning 30 in a few days and I was hoping to have my surgery the same day. My thought behind that: turning 30 scares the hell out of me and I thought giving myself the gift of health was the perfect gift. Things aren't going as planned because you know, insurance. I have 2 little boys, 8 & 5, that mean the world to me and the reason for my surgery. I want to set a good example for them and be around to meet my grandchildren. Don't have a surgery date yet but I'm more than ready. Already on my pre-op diet. 4 days of no breads, milk, fruits or sugars and I feel amazing. I can only imagine how great I'll feel when I drop this extra 100.

So im 24, 5'6" and 260 lbs. I have had my consultation for weight loss surgery and am starting my journey. The 2 options are gastic bypass and lap band. Im leaning towards gastric bypass. I have an appointment the 1st week in sept for my physical and consultation with the surgeon. My goal is to be my high school weight of 160 again. Anyone have any opinions on which procedure they would recommend? Both would cost the same fod me so its not a factor. Please help! All experiences and stories good and bad welcome. Just looking for some honesty.

Hello all, I was banded the first time in 2006. I had a slip in 2009 and had a realize band implemented. I had complications with the band again and on May 25th was revised from band to RNY. I have to admit, the pain was intense. I am 10 days post op and am back at work and still have pain (though not very severe). I work in an office, so I am sedentary and am not concerned about the pain. I have lost almost 15 pounds being on the liquid diet (now able to eat pudding / yogurt / etc). I am not really sure how to measure my weight loss as I was really not morbidly obese when being revised. I can tell you I was 311 in 2006 when banded. I had dropped to 175 and then after…

I am 4 months post-op and down 75 lbs (yay!), but suddenly I'm noticing heartburn and possibly too much acid in my stomach causing ulcer-like pains (it feels like someone is trying to burn a whole through the wall of my stomach). Sometimes it seems to get better with food and/or Tums. Anyone else experience this? I thought I was cured of heartburn once and for all! Also, since I've lost all this weight, I started hurting MORE! I started having knee pain just a year or so before my surgery which went away at some point post-op. Now that I'm the lightest I've been in over 10 years, my ankles have started hurting when I go shopping as do my feet, and my hips! Why the hips…

I am new to this forum so I figured I would post a topic. I had lap band surgery in Jan of 2011, lost 30 pounds and now have gained it all back. I never had restriction with my band even with all the fills I had. I will be having the RNY on Sept 10th and am worried that the same thing will happen. I fallowed the guidelines for the first 4-5 months after the lap band but after gaining weight back I went back to old habits. I am worried I will do the same with this surgery. I was wondering how I can keep with the good habits after surgery and what you guys have done to stay focused and eating right? Especially with all the dieting I have done and failed at I am worried …

I was in the Doctor's office last week and while waiting, I read an interesting article out of Obesity Help magazine. It was about personal responsibility. One segment of the article really struck me. It was talking about temptation after surgery. I know this is something that I will battle with while in recovery. The author said that when she was tempted to give in and eat that unhealthy food/do that unhealthy habit, etc, she thought of all the people who desperately wanted/needed surgery but were denied due to insurance/health, etc. I can relate to this. I was without insurance for about 5 years and had wanted to get this surgery but just couldn't afford it on my own. I…

Not sure if this is right place to vent a little bit. If not, could someone please point me in the right direction? So....I had Panda Express today. It was a mother daughter outing, we went dress shopping for my cousin's wedding and my daughter wanted to go to PE. I said yes, I thought that I would be able to handle it, BOY was I wrong. Not only did I get sick, literally, after 2 bites but now I have this aweful quilt that I am feeling. I feel miserable that I even went there. Remind you, I am almost 4 weeks post-op. I feel like I should be exercising or something but it's so dang hot here in the PNW (pacific northwest) that going outside would be murder. I don't under…

Hi everyone! I haven't had my surgery yet and was wondering if anyone else on here has pcos and if so has the surgery helped with the symptoms? I've struggled with my weight for years and am currently at my highest weight ever and all of the side affects from the pcos are just out of control. Also how much weight have you lost with the surgery? It seems like no matter how much I diet and exercise I can't lose any weight and this is my last hope

Some companies cannot even GET good quality whey protein isolate. What do they do then? Well, some companies are trying to get you to buy still lower-quality protein sources by making them sound fashionable, mystical, trendy. Have you noticed anyone selling pea protein and chia protein? The Center for Disease Control has released their annual report on "Obesity Trends Among U.S. Adults". The report is prepared based on data gathered with the world's largest, on-going health telephone survey system - the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). Data is collected from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam. For the purposes of the report, obesity is defined as adults with a BMI greater than or equal to 30. Unfortunately, the news has not been good for a number of years, and this latest report based on data gathered in 2011, is no exception. More than one-third of U.S. adults, 35.7%, are obese. …

Saw the surgeon today and I guess I lost track of time. Here I was thinking I'm 2 months post op. but I'm only 6 weeks. Lol. I know I know. Technicality. Anyway, I am down 24lbs and he asked me if I felt full. I told him now. He told me I needed to start eating more solid foods. Like chicken breast. ( not the mushy chicken salad I make). And steak. Etc. I have been a little scared to try it.
