Just starting!

Hey! I'm 25 and I just started my journey. I go for my first seminar tomorrow. This is my second time trying this out I began the process last time but with school I decided to wait. Now I'm finished with school and I couldn't be more excited to get this started! I'm hoping to have surgery this summer and could use all the support available.

Hey hero! Welcome ; ) The four of us can be newbies (and be excited) together!! I go for my info session on the 21rst - I forgot to tell you KD! I found a new session that won't make me wait so long!!! Or maybe I did, I can't remember. Anyway, hoping to meet with the surgeon by the end of the month and get this thing going! I'm on Day 2 of "new way of eating" and it hasn't been as bad as I thought. I started My Fitness Pal. You guys should check it out if you haven't already. It is AMAZING. I love it.

I started my 6 month "diet" in which they told me not to focus on what I eat but for this month I have to focus on how I eat. Chew chew chew, no straws, no drinking and eating at the same time, that kinda thing. Guess they are preparing me for life after surgery. I love My Fitness Pal!

That's neat!!!! I might have to try it out. They told me not to start changing the way I eat until. Meet the nutritionist which is the 20th then I will find out what to do. But for after surgery I might try it! I did however go on and stop drinking sodas this week!!

Hi ladies! I am at the start of my journey too and starting at a similar weight. My highest when I first met my surgeon was 370. After doing my month long nutritionist diet I am now 349! Last week all the doctors cleared me for surgery and now I'm just waiting for insurance and my surgery date. Hopefully I will hear in about a week. I'm looking for a June date!

Kd I'm in NC too. Where are you? I live in winston salem.

Hek that's awesome I hope you get a date soon! I live in Archdale which is about 30-45mins from WS. I'm having my surgery in high point. Where are you having yours at?

I'm having it at wake forest baptist. I've been really happy with their whole program.

That's great. My clinic requires a TON of stuff for instance I have to write a 10 page research paper, contact ten previous patients, a patient consent form that is 12 pages and each question has to be answered in a paragraph, and lots of reading and signatures. Does wf require that? From what I've found out they are the only one that does and that of course sucks but if it allows me to have the surgery then I'll do if!

No I didn't have to do any of that at WF. they are even taking care of all the insurance paperwork. If you are still early in the process you may want to look into WF and see if they can offer a bit of an easier process.

me too! my second time around too, I don't think I was ready for this year before last but now I'm ready to do this. Good luck

That's awesome good luck!! I know I wouldn't have succeeded if I did it last time but two years later I'm more passionate and driven to have it and to be successful with it!

I've already gotten the paper started and all my appointments made. They have been doing it awhile and are on of the higher ranked clinics in the nation. It's a tough process but like others say... It helps the understand it better, your not as nervous and the surgeons are dedicated to helping you the most they can. It's a lot of work but it's worth it!

... It's all going to be worth it in the end!!! I'm so happy that everything's happening so close to each other! Kdgaines you are certainly keeping me sane and on track!! *** dopleganger!!!***

I know Kailie. I agree with you! You girls have given me so much hope! I'm on Day 3 of "eating better." Haven't had soda or candy, chocolate, very little bread, no pasta. I went to The Vitamin Shoppe a few days ago because I know GBS pushes for protein and more protein. I bought Designer Whey in Vanilla. It's actually pretty good! If you guys are struggling with protein (I do) and as long as your nutritionist okays it (I haven't met with one yet but know I need to start losing weight now) I definitely recommend it. It's around $15 for a can. Yesterday I mixed 16oz of milk with 1 scoop and added 2 ice cubes. Tastes very similar to a liquefied vanilla milkshake. I've never been a breakfast person so I struggle with eating the right things early in the morning. The last 2 days I've had it and I make it to lunch without feeling like I'm starving. It's 18g of protein. KD you asked about My Fitness Pal - I think that is what is keeping me motivated as well. When you sign up, you input your weight/height/all your info and it tracks everything you eat. I love it because I don't have to read packages anymore. If I want to have something (within reason of course) I scan the barcode, it calculates everything for me (down to calcium and iron intake!) and deducts my calories. I have about 2200 calories that it set me at. If I exercise, it gives me credit for my calories burned. When you are finished for the day, you hit "finish this entry" and this amazing little note pops up and says "If every day were like today you would weigh ____ lbs in 5 weeks." The first day I did it, it told me I would be able to lose approximately 17 pounds in five weeks. Personally, I think it's really motivational. 17 pounds for a heavy person means not ever having to wear size 26 jeans again. 17 pounds for a heavy person means you can be one step closer to a healthy liver for a healthy and successful surgery. It's a free app too!!!!!
