Hey all, first post. I'm looking for friends in my general area of El Paso Texas. I go into my first appointment with the doctor/surgeon on Wednesday. I feel like I'm going crazy about this journey. I'm excited but nervous. Meeting with the doc at the seminar, he basically said I'd be approved no problem since I'm over the 40 bmi. I have told a few people about the beginning of this journey and have been met with lots of support. I have PCOS and I think those that I have told are very aware of my struggles with weight because of the PCOS. I'm overwhelmed with thinking that there is light at the end of this tunnel. Oh man... My consultation is in 2 days! I hope I click with this surgeon. I had a consultation with another surgeon a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't like how his office was run. It felt like a surgery mill, honestly, and left me wondering what kind of support I'd be getting after my revision surgery. When I tell a bariatric surgeon that I've been having issues with my band and that I'd already had replacement surgery once, I shouldn't be left on my own to find a radiologist that is familiar with the band in order to get an upper GI series done. About a week before that consultation, I had a severe sliming/PB episode while I was at work (I made the mistake of eating a raw…

Monday I will be six weeks out. I have had a hard time keeping anything down, so I've been trying to do what I normally do while I eat, but I find that instantly Im going to the bathroom to get sick. Today I've drank mostly Water, tried to have some Protein, and that came right up. Other than this, I have been feeling amazing. I just dont want to get dehydrated.

Hi there! I'm sort of new around here and still finding my way around so I apologize if this is covered somewhere already. I had surgery on 1/15/15 and therefore am 19 days post-op. I lost 14lbs my first 2 weeks, but have not budged this past week. I am following the eating guidelines and am wondering if this is common? It's REALLY discouraging and I'm trying to stay positive and not think I went through all of this for nothing. Help? Elizabeth

So I know that exercise is important after WLS, but I would like to hear from others about their experiences with exercise/weights. I am 6 weeks post op and I was cleared by my Dr. 10 days ago, but jeez, my energy level is like zero. I think I could sleep 12 hours a day if someone would let me. I need to get to the gym, and I'm starting to believe that I'm just going to have to push through this fog of extreme fatigue, and do it regardless. I walk/elipticle about 3 days a week, but I am aware that I need to do more. Would love to hear from pro's and newbies alike on this... What's your routine, how did it affect your weight loss, did it help your skin tighten... Looki…

Hi everyone! I had my RNY about 4 weeks ago and I feel like I'm already struggling. I need to stay motivated. I seem to always feel hungry/rarely full and I am scared I'm going to go back to my old ways of stress eating. Would love to have someone to mentor me or a buddy that had surgery around the same time? Thank you!!!

This afternoon I took liquid Vitamins and immediately got a sharp cramping pain in my stomach. It hurt really bad. This was followed by sweating and chills. But then after about 15 minutes I felt okay. I have no idea if this is related to what happened later. Then, about three hours later, I went to the bathroom with diarrhea three times within in a half an hour. All three times the toilet bowl was filled with blood (not bright red, but not dark either). It looked like A LOT of blood!!! I'm 4.5 months post-op. I called my surgeon's office, but got a different on-call doctor (a general surgeon, not a bariatric surgeon). He says he thinks I have an ulcer and to ca…

I am a type 2 diabetic in remission since month 2 after rny. I was on insulin and oral meds prior to surgery This week I have had 3 bouts of low blood sugars hit me suddenly. The first time was while walking and I walked further than normal and it was before dinner so I thought that was why. Blood sugar was 52. 2nd was at night after getting all of my requirements in and just going to bed. Blood sugar was 51. Third was today while at the mall, so I was walking but not at a great pace and I didn't have my meter with me so I don't know the number. I carry a Protein bar with me so that helped. What am I doing wrong? I am so not used to lows!

I'm am a little stunned, amazed and in my husband's words giddy! In September 2000, I reached my highest weight of 278 pounds. As of today, I've lost 100 pounds from that day! No too bad for someone who had two different doctors tell her (back then) the best she could hope for was to weigh 220 and that would be next to impossible to reach! Do I have regrets about having gastric bypass surgery? Not a single one!!!

I have the most painful gas pains that wake me in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning. I immediately take Gas - X but while I am waiting for the medication to kick in the pain is unbearable, literally will bring me to my knees. I would love to read what others are experiencing! Do you do anything before going to bed so this doesn't happen? I've been eating very small salads lately and I'm wondering if this could be a contributing factor. By the way I am 9 weeks post-op.

That's what I"m supposed to be eating each meal. I only have to worry about lunch and dinner right now as I still get one eight ounce Protein shake a day. I am not allowed to snack so that leaves getting all the protein in my meals. The problem I'm having is that I can only hold two ounces of meat at a time and I'm limited to chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, yogurt and cottage cheese. And as of yesterday, I'm supposed to be adding non-starchy veggies to each meal. How am I supposed to eat all that?! Any suggestions or ideas?

Okay I'm home from RNY surgery that was done on the 28th. Today I'm comfortable: just Mild pain and discomfort. (First 2 days were just miserable tho) I had hubby make me vegetable broth and I couldn't get enough! I drank almost 60 oz of Water prior to it. I'm tolerating it fine. I'm just on clear liquid phase 1 diet till my post opp appointment next Wednesday. No shakes or pureed. So I can tolerate a half cup of broth at meals, and my water sips aren't as small as I thought they had to be. So my question is... is my pouch too big? Is this even going to work? I'll ask the doc when I see him. He never said anything to me after surgery about it one way or another…

Anyone know what they feel like? I've noticed the past couple weeks that every time I eat, even the smallest amount, my stomach hurts. Kind of like being punched in the stomach. No specific food triggers it that I recall, but it has me wondering if it could possibly be the beginning of an ulcer. I'm almost 7 months out, officially have lost 100#, and confident every single day in my decision to have this surgery. I've never had any complication, do I'm just curious what to look for. Thanks on advance for your insight.

Every morning for breakfast I have a Granny Smith Apple, and PB2 chocolate. My husband has been telling me I should put some cinnamon on my apple. (He does this everyday on his) everyday I tell him I have to have protein when I have fruit. So he put some cinnamon in my pb2 and OMG it was delicious. It is a staple now. And cinnamon is supposed to be good for blood pressure and other things, so it pains me to say but he was right. LOL Try it and let me know what ya'll think. It is really good. I am 19 months out, lost 115 lbs. and loving life.

I am currently 10 weeks post op and have lost 50 #. I have not lost any weight in the last 3 weeks, I have heard of the 3 month stall but did not expect it to happen so soon. I work out 6 days a week, all 6 days with some form of cardio(only walking), distance, intervals, fast pace etc. I also do upper and lower body weights 2xweek. I have not started sit-ups as I was told not to start them until my 3 month visit. Does anyone have any ideas to get me jump started? I am getting frustrated and have slipped back to my old ways twice. Please help me.

I was originally set on revising to the VSG, but I'm fairly certain that I'm going to do the RNY instead. The VSG just has so many "what-ifs." I've already had the lap-band twice (first one had to be replaced due to complications, and now I'm having issues with the second one), so this will be WLS surgery #3 for me. I don't want to possibly need to go for #4 if the VSG doesn't work as well for me. The RNY has long-term result statistics available, whereas the VSG only has truly long-term stats when it was used in conjunction with the DS. My metabolism is horrible for several reasons, so I'm worried that a solely restrictive procedure just won't be enough. It probabl…

Hi ! Has anyone had the Bariatric nectar Protein shakes ? How do they taste? Is there a recommended flavor. Wish they sold separate packets to try. I heard after surgery your taste buds may change not possibly wanting the regular Protein Shakes so thought I might look into trying the nectar. Any feedback would be awesome ! Thanks !

I'm 30 and I've been so depressed and in a cycle of weight loss and gain- I'm really excited to be finally setting the date! Is anyone else having surgery end of Feb, aged around 30 or from UK? Would be great to find some friends to discuss the coming weeks and months having decided to proceed with a bypass. Let's do this! Time for Kim 2.0! Xx

Hello all, I am Cindy Vosmera I had my surgery on Oct 17th and I just had a scope done to see if there was any narrowing or ulcers that were making me get sick often after I would eat. I do have an ulcer but have meds to treat it and she said today that it was on the mend. Thank God it wasn't anything more serious. Have a great day. It was a good day to have off here in Colorado, I live in Longmont and it was over 70 degrees today. Back to work tomorrow. Thank you all for your support.

I have done all the pre-tests with the exception of the sleep apnea test which is this Friday. I have been to the informational session and am scheduled for my pre-op support group on Monday the 6th. Before that meeting I get to schedule my wellness assessment which is a 4 hour appt. with the bariatric team of, nutritionists, nurses, and psychologist. It is to my understanding that after that meeting I will be giving my surgery date. According to the nurse it could be as early as late February......I have only been in the process since 1/1/15 I am in a pilot program with my job so I am lucky enough to not have to wait for insurance approval. Is that to fast?? Am I rushing…

February 2012 i had gastric bypass...I lost 95 lb...was very close to my goal wight. I wasn't able to get on track after surgery due to neck pain...and that turned into 2 neck surgery's...the first neck surgery was 4 months after gbp...the second neck surgery a year later...I was on different meds (including morphine) for 1 1/2 years...Then last February 2014 I spent a week in ICU with blood clots in my lungs. Well, it's now 2015. I've been off all pain medication and meds that caused 70lbs of weight gain. I feel I let my family down..but mostly myself. Is it to late?

I am wanting to have revision surgery to bypass. Do you know of anyone who had a bypass but failed in the first year? Two years? I dont have to be skinny. I just want to be healthier.

Well, on the 28th I will have surgery!! I start my pre-op liquid-only diet tomorrow night (5 full days). I am really excited and only a little nervous (but more excited than nervous). I'm worried that I am too excited. I've had 2 c-sections (13 & 18 years ago) but never been in any other kind of surgery. I read everything I can about what to expect and do for my new life so I know I'm ready for the "after life". but this 6 week post-op pain and nausea and fatigue are the only things that worry me. I have about 75 Protein powder samples from a bunch of different sources - so i think I'll be okay with that. really really really want to minimize my post-op co…

Hi everyone. I have my pre op appointment in two weeks to start the liquid diet and will have surgery in December. I am diabetic and need to loose about 80 lbs but am mainly doing this because I am diabetic. Its been frustrating over the years because my body starts to resist all effort and now I am taking insullin . I would love to hear from y'all about if this really does get rid if the diabetes. I am having a SIP where is the sleeve and they also do the bipass my dr says it help with dumping and malisorption problems. I honestly am doing this more for the diabetes because I have been fat my whole life and don't even know if I have a thin side of me. I have no …
