Need sleep

So I am 6 months out. Everything has been going well but now all the sudden I can't sleep. I don't even know if there is something I can take over the counter to help.

  • jjwhitman, maybe that's what happened to me this morning. Felt majorly hungover from melatonin. First time taking since surgery with anti depressant....hmmm....

Niquil is what I take when I can't sleep.

Melatonin... It's all natural and something I take now. I even give it to my son, some nights.

Melatonin is good, but when I used to take it I had terrible daytime sedation - much worse than any prescription sleep aid I've ever used.

Also, Nyquil has a ton of sugar - 13g per dose. I believe they may have a sugar-free version, but you definitely want to look at the labels.

The nurse practitioner on my surgical team suggested Benadryl for sleep for bariatric patients.

5 mg of melatonin (low dose) makes me drowsy. However, if you are on any type of anti-depressant or anxiety medication, it will give you a terrible hangover (feel sleepy) the next day.

I suffer from insomnia and take Melatonin and have never had any side effects. I used to take Benadryl but that is how I eventually became an insomniac.
