    Major Stall

I'm 7 months out and have been in a stall for over a month. Very aggravating. I log my fitness pal everyday with food, water, and activity. I eat clean 90% of the time, and try not to go over 900 calories a day. I guess I need to up my exercise. :-(

    online clothing rentals?

Gwennie Bee was great for me while I was dropping sizes so quickly. I worked in an office where business casual was the norm, so most of their clothing fit in that category. I found it very convenient and much more affordable than buying.

discouraged after 2nd post op doctor visit

It seems to me like you're doing awesome! You just keep doing what you're doing and don't let ANYONE get you down. You know your body and your abilities better than anyone else. Weight loss is 80% diet. If you can keep eating healthy and portion control you will lose that 100 lbs+. The exercise will get easier once you lose more weight. It will make you feel more toned, stronger, more energetic, and happier, but all things in time. Set your goals and do just what you can do.

    Could use some ideas

Miso soup or maybe some Thai soup if you have a restaurant in your town. I'm so sorry about your spinal surgery! I hope it brings you a lot of relief, though.

    Straws

Also, I was told that it cause more air to get into your pouch causing gas and pains?

    Straws

I was told to have a straw burning party before my surgery. I actually use them quite a bit, and have never had any negative side effects. I'm sure everyone is different.

    Stalls...

I'm 6 months post-op and just got out of a month long stall. Hallelujah!
  8. I had surgery 6 months ago, and have lost 104 lbs to date. My goal is to lose a total of 150, so just 46 lbs to go! I don't exercise very much- I go for walks sometimes. Mine is all from eating very clean and healthy 90% of the time. Even my 10% cheat foods are in small amounts and still healthier than I used to eat.

Protein Bars not feeling so good

I LOVE the Marigold protein bars @ marigoldbars.com I can only eat 1/2 a one because I will dump, but one bar has less sugar than 3 cherries, and as much protein as 4 eggs. Made with very healthy ingredients. I ordered the sampler box and found many I'd like to order again. I've also enjoyed snacking on beef jerky in moderation (too much salt), and love the new Triple Zero Greek Yogurts. They have like 15 grams protein per 1/2 cup. No sugar, no fat, no artificial flavor, but very good.
  10. Something I've noticed, is that every surgeon and nutritionist seems to vary on their advice and requirements a little. My nutritionist told me to shoot for 900-1000 calories per day. I think after I reach my goal weight, that moving up to 1200-1500 calories would seem more reasonable for me. Of course, if I'm exercising more I could probably eat more at that point.

    Yay! Gastric bypass?

Good luck to you! After surgery, 2000 calories will be unfathomable to you, lol. I'm three months post-op and do well to get in 800 calories a day. I could certainly eat less, but I stop losing weight when I do.

    Starting liquid diet

On my liquid diet I was able to have tomato soup, soups with a cream base, French onion soup, jello made with fruit juice, smoothies, and anything without chunks. My surgeon had me substitute one meal with liquid starting 3 weeks out, 2 meals on second week before, and then three liquid meals a day the week before. I didn't have to do total clear until 1 day prior. I had gastric bypass on 12/16/14, and had absolutely no complications. My liver was shrunken, so the liquid diet did work. Good luck!
  13. I hope this isn't too personal, but are you going to the bathroom ok? I know if I don't eat, drink, and take enough fiber I will stall and even gain weight. When my digestive tract gets going again I start losing again. I had to increase my calorie intake, too. I was only getting about 600-700 cal per day, and wasn't losing. Increasing it to about 850 a day had worked for me. I've been steadily losing for the past month again. I think you might just have to play around a bit to see what works for you. Hang in there!
  14. I had to use a tongue scraper. The protein shakes really do leave a buildup and I remember battling breath issues the first three weeks after surgery.

    Found a new portable food

I wish they made them with the white albacore tuna… I'm a tuna snob! LOL.

    Waiting is so hard!

Good luck with this next surgeon! I hope he is the one for you, too. I got really lucky with mine, and think he's just the best. I'm also grateful to have had the gastric bypass, and chose it over the gastric sleeve because eating whole fruits and vegetables and chunky salads was very important to me. I really hope that your restaurant bypass goes smoothly and that you can move on with your life in a positive and healthy way. God bless you and good luck to you!

    Need sleep

5 mg of melatonin (low dose) makes me drowsy. However, if you are on any type of anti-depressant or anxiety medication, it will give you a terrible hangover (feel sleepy) the next day.

    DON'T STOCK UP!

I agree! I bought everything in bulk before surgery and ended up having to give everything away because it all made me sick afterwards. I can still drink the Premier protein chocolate flavored shakes, but I almost gagged on those because I get sick of the milky taste. I agree the syntax nectar protein is great added to your water bottle. I also add a packet of Crystal light to sweeten the deal. I wish it had as much protein as the shakes, but it's better than nothing! What has bothered me the most are the vitamins. I bought all gummy vitamins before my surgery on recommendation from my doctors office, and enjoyed them. Fast forward to after surgery, and the gummy texture and flavor made me completely gag. I had to give all those away to my sister, LOL.
  19. Hi Larry, my advice to you would be to not buy anything in bulk until after your surgery. Things that you liked before surgery, including vitamins and shakes, you may no longer tolerate or like anymore after surgery. This is how it was for me. I went to Sam's Club and bought everything in bulk prior to surgery and was enjoying everything, but after surgery all the vitamins and shakes I had bought made me nauseous. I ended up giving everything away. I would suggest buying a regular size bottle at the drugstore or Walmart, and seeing how that goes after surgery. If you tolerate everything well, then by all means buying bulk because it will save you money in the long run.
  20. My surgeon had told me that there is only a 1% chance of death with gastric Pat bypass. Maybe I misunderstood, but I know the risk is not that great.

    I was drinking airborne

No, I don't think that they would cancel it.

    3days before surgery !

How did your surgery go? Hopefully you're not feeling too much discomfort right now. I remember when I came out of surgery they put me on the morphine pump, but after one night of that I asked them to disconnect it because my pain really wasn't enough to justify morphine. I asked for something a little milder and they gave me a couple pills to take. it was fine, and allowed me to sleep. My advice to you right now is sleep as much as you can in the hospital. I know the nurses come in and out constantly but try to rest. With that said, when you wake up try to get up and walk the halls. Make sure you take a walker, just in case, but the exercise will really help with soreness, and help your bowels start to move again faster. Don't be afraid to wear your pajamas home. nobody will care what you look like you're being wheeled out to your car, LOL. Oh, and drink as much as you can. Sip, sip, sip like it's your job. if they offer you a protein drink, try to drink it, but don't be surprised if you don't like it. Don't be afraid to ask for a different flavor if need be. Also, I believe in Most nurses stations stash Popsicles. Ask for a sugar-free popsicle as soon as you're allowed liquids. For some reason, those tasted so good to me after surgery. The Blue Bell Bullets are the best in my opinion. I wish you all the luck with everything! The first week home was the hardest for me. worse than any discomfort, was the head hunger. Your body has yet to get rid of all the hunger hormones and addictions to sugar and fat, so the first couple of weeks if you are anything like me, you will still crave foods even though you are not physically hungry anymore. Hopefully that will go quickly for you, but know that it does go away, and your former addictions will be cured. You'll be able to look at that piece of cake and really not care about eating any of it, or if you are tempted you'll just eat one bite, and feel like that's enough. It's a crazy, and amazing process! Keep us posted.
  23. P.S. Sorry for all the typos. I was using voice diction on my phone, and didn't proofread before I hit reply. Hopefully you'll be able to read between the lines and get the gist. :-)
  24. I, too, was a food addict. I constantly, and ate in large volumes. Six weeks ago I had gastric bypass. The first two weeks were terrible because I had head hunger… My brain still craved the foods I loved before, but I was on liquid and purées only during that time, could only eat very small quantities, and nothing that appealed to me at that moment. It got much better after that because this former food addict suddenly start craving the things I had lunch so much before. I started craving vegetables and salads and foods that had crunch and texture because I was tired of mushy foods all the time! Of course, that phase passed, too, and now I am at stage five where I can have all my regular foods again. The crazy thing is that I can go hours without eating and don't even think about it. My stomach no longer growls if I forget to eat a meal. I have to remind myself to eat, and make myself eat enough. This too, will pass as the months go on. I tell you this so that you will know that your food addictions will most likely cease post surgery. it's crazy, amazing, but true for most people. Best wishes to you!

    Wonderful discovery

How long was it before you were able to eat apple slices comfortably? I am six weeks postop, and do not process them well. It makes me sad because before surgery I ate an apple every day!
