Gastric Bypass (RNY) and IBD - worse or better?

Recommended Posts

Anyone out there with Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD) prior to surgery? How did RNY impact your symptoms? Did they improve? Get worse? Disappear? Please let me know. Thanks!

Hi there. I have IBS, not IBD, so I'm not sure if this response will be helpful. When I eat per doctor's plan, I am fine. I still get flare ups from the same foods that caused it before, but with the addition of embarrassing accidents. I would still have the surgery had I known, but probably more cautious. Also when I'm stressed it kicks in which also leads to accidents. My sisters have both suggested I wear a diaper but I can't bring myself to do that. I hope this wasn't TMI, but I thought I'd be honest. Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up. No, it is not too much TMI. With these issues I would rather know than to play it polite and be surprised. I think we probably have the same thing. I think it is IBS (Syndrome) and not IBD (Disease). Anyway, I am use to flare ups and have even had accidents in the past year at work. So, accidents after surgery will not be a new thing:) Maybe I will be more cautious and careful because of the surgery and I might even show some improvement.

Thanks again!

The only change I have is the frequency of it. I used to have issues weekly or every two weeks, now it seems to be monthly and it's getting longer inbetween times. I'm hoping I can be rid of it soon. 4 months out on Monday.

I am six weeks out, I have UC and thankfully have not had a bad flare up. That is NOT the norm for me. I still have light blood in stools, but nothing major. But I am not sure if it's because I have cut out foods that I didn't do well with. Or because I am eating such a little amount of food. All I know is I fell 10x better since surgery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
