  1. Hi! I had my RNY on 9/22. HW: 268, CW: 208 Goal Weight: 165 5'10 Just wondering how your weight loss journey is going. I don't remember how much weight I lost before surgery, but I think I've lost 55 pounds since surgery. I've had a few stalls that lasted a month, lost some more, stalled some more. To be honest I wasn't sticking to the rules. Now that I am tracking, measuring, exercising, I'm losing again. I'd love to hear how you are all doing.
  2. Hi! Today I hit "Onderland!" I weigh 199.6! I'm so happy. I'm there by a mere .4, but I'm there! I almost cried. So happy I had this surgery.
  3. Hi there. I have IBS, not IBD, so I'm not sure if this response will be helpful. When I eat per doctor's plan, I am fine. I still get flare ups from the same foods that caused it before, but with the addition of embarrassing accidents. I would still have the surgery had I known, but probably more cautious. Also when I'm stressed it kicks in which also leads to accidents. My sisters have both suggested I wear a diaper but I can't bring myself to do that. I hope this wasn't TMI, but I thought I'd be honest. Good luck!

    4 Months out

Hi! I'm almost 4 months out. I have lost 58 pounds, but I'm not sure how much I lost pre op, so that's total weight. I have 32 pounds to goal and am losing about 2 pounds per week. I had a stall in October for almost a month then found myself grazing through the holidays! I think the grazing is so destructive for me. I took two weeks off for Christmas and lost 8 pounds! Apparently I deal with work stress by grazing! I'm happy to see the dramatic difference it was making. However, I also dealt with a real long stall following the program as specified. I think our bodies go through adjustment periods. We may not drop pounds but we seem to drop inches. Either way I'm sorry you are going through this, but sticking with the plan will yield results! Best wishes on an end to your stall.

    Weight loss stalls

I hate stalls! So many posts on this forum about this very thing. I had a four week stall in October followed by my grazing through the holidays. Focus on getting your protein in, your water and move if you can. I found exercise to be super helpful icing the darn scale! Good luck!

    Struggling with protein

This is hard for all of us. The other posters have given you great advice. Find a protein powder that works for you, and blend with your favorite fruits. I love the Isopure vanilla mixed with sugar frees frozen berries from Costco. It makes a delicious smoothie with 24 grams of protein. Experiment until you find a protein powder you like.

    Gas 4 days post op

Walking is the cure, but it will take time. My worst day was my first day home from the hospital, Day 3. You will start to feel better! Hang in there!
  9. Hi Carol! You are doing fantastically! 70 pounds is amazing and you are so close to your goal! Yeah!

    September surgery

Hi! I had my RNY on 9/22. I'm down 55 pounds. I stalled from Thanksgiving to about two weeks ago. I finally started to lose again. I began exercising and tracking my food. I seem to be able to eat as much as I want and only stop because I know I shouldn't. I'm never physically hungry but battle my head hungry chronically. I'm tracking calories, exercise and protein, mostly without denial. It amazes me how I can try to fool myself about portion sizes and grazing doesn't count. When I really track, portions and every morsel that enters my mouth, I'm good. This surgery truly has been a gift from God for me, but it hasn't cured my obsession to food. I'm working on that one day at a time.

10 Weeks out and no problems?

Hi! I'm 3 months post op, and can eat anything too. However, I wasn't losing, and was doing a lot of grazing. Since I'm back on track? Down 57 pounds, three dress sizes and there is no stopping me! I had to really become accountable to me. I have a good tracker, focus on my protein, and occasional carbs. It's working.

    Work

great advice from your doc! Take the time! Figuring out when to drink, what to eat all takes time.

    3 days post op

i agree with the other folks posting. Day three was my hardest, but it got better every day!
  14. I just discovered Flatout Light Flatbread. I'm using it for sandwiches. It has 90 calories and high in protein. Delicious with turkey and veggies. Great for lunches.

    Not fun

Jessb418- I'm the same way! I'm happy when the scale goes down and really grumpy when it doesn't move! I weight self everyday. And the weight will set the mood. This isn't healthy. ???? We have to remember this experience is a journey. I had such fears initially that I would be the failure who didn't lose weight and gained more! I read about the average weight loss, and worried the average wouldn't get me to my goal. I'm in my third month post op, and while I still have irrational fears, I'm coming to terms with this process. My sister is one year post, met her goal weight and struggles with maintaining. In other words, this our lives now. Thin people also watch their weight. I've been paying attention to my "normal to thin friends' eating habits. They are pretty disciplined with an occasional treat. They workout, and occasionally get upset with a weight gain. We got this! We're ok! And we will reach our goals! Hang in there. The scale is just a tool to help you gage your eating.

    Sleeve to Roux en Y

I think you already know what to expect. Just remember to drink your water and get your protein in! Best of luck!
  18. I really cleaned and organized so all my hubby had to do was pick up. Then, our dishwasher broke!!! Ugh! I came home from the hospital to a mess of dishes on the sink. I went straight into my bedroom. My hubby hand washed everything and kept the house tidy my entire recovery. He mostly ate fast food. Our son lives at college do I didn't have babies to worry about. My saving grace as a working mom is my Crockpot! I make Soups all the time, and roasted chicken, pork tenderloin, you name it! Meal planning ahead for the week is now my habit so we always have a healthy meal.

    Work

I agree! I had RNY and took two weeks off, but I came home from work pretty wiped out for about another. You will also want to think ahead about planning your meals and water.

    Snacks ideas.

I love the individual portions of humus and celery or sweet bell peppers or sliced cucumbers. The 4 oz cottage cheese is also a great snack with 12 g of protein.
  21. Anaxila, it sounds like you work for a great company! I also love the approach your team took! The most challenging part about returning to work for me was figuring out what and how to eat at work! That extra time home would have been a God send.

    New Years

I was just thinking about this. My resolutions year after year have been to lose weight, get healthy, etc. This year I decided not to make a resolution and stick to what I'm doing! I had RNY on 9/22, down 53 pounds, exercising six days a week and feeling great. I have 47 pounds to goal, and am filled with hope and optimism! Do what works for you, and may all our healthful dreams come true! ❤️????
  23. Hi. I had my RNY on 9/22 and took 2 weeks off. I have a desk job so it was very doable. I did come home exhausted and went to bed fairly early.

    50's

Hi Fellow Fabulous Fifties! I am 54, and had my surgery 9/22/14. I am 3 months out, down 51 pounds, 3 dress sizes and have energy to burn! I went from the couch with no energy to working out 6 days a week. I run/walks dogs everyday followed by at least a 30 minute workout. I am 49 pounds from my goal weight and am happier than I could ever express. RNY has been the best decision I have ever made! Like childbirth, the first two weeks are a blur. I continue to learn what I can and cannot eat, unfortunately, the hard way! But I have no regrets.
  25. I love this topic! I'm 3 months out and stalled right around Thanksgiving. I have lost 51 pounds to date, with 49 to go! I discovered I was grazing the work food buffet table was adding up to a lot of calories! Grazing is my enemy! Thanks to MFP, it made me face the truth. I think it is so important to be honest with yourself, accountable to yourself. A food and exercise tracker helps. I'm a big denial person, pretending the one bite of Brie I ate was fine. Oh, just a hand full of nuts, fine... And so on. That's what my weight fan has always been about, do I'm working on honesty and facing the music. My other issue, (at least food related), is accurately measuring portions. One cup looks like 1/2! At double the calories it makes a huge difference. My food tracker app is keeping me accountable and weight loss is back! Thanks for listening! I'm pretty passionate!
