Hey everyone. I just got a new cookbook so I could start thinking about what fun things I can make and have at some point in the near future. Does anyone else have a good one? I got "Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook for Dummies" It has every stage in it...seems pretty cool and easy. Advice from others?

  6. My surgeon has said that I seem to be losing weight on the lesser end of what's expected. Meaning she would like it if I lost more. Recently i have started running a mile 2-3 times a week with short breathers in between, I have never been a runner and I feel like I am doing more than ever now, but I've been at a stand still for 3 weeks or so and I don't understand. Surgeon told me not to take protein drinks because I was sabotaging myself and not to eat if I was not hungry, so I'm not sure if I should eat even when I'm not hungry or just have my fluids she's not the nicest to talk to and I'm pretty confused and frustrated

No matter what I eat or how good I chew I am throwing up at least once a day. I'm almost three months out and have tried to slow it down. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if I should be concerned with a stricture. I have no problem drinking but am so sick of getting sick. I'm scared I'm going to choke.

  8. I'm sure I'm not the only one but I'm struggling to my impression of my own body. I hit goal about 8 weeks ago. Now, when I go in stores to try on clothes, I always pick sizes too big first. I just can't believe the numbers or sizes on the tags. When I look at myself in a mirror, I guess I basically see my shape but I still feel like I'm big or fat. I have people tell me that I'm so slender and I have people tell me I shouldn't lose more weight. I'm not interested in losing more because I'm happy with the numbers and measurements I have but it's just hard for me to reconcile those numbers and sizes with how my brain perceives me. My friends have a hard time understandin…

Ok, my surgery is on Wednesday the 17th and my dr put me on a liquid diet since Monday the 8th and I am having such a hard time. I've been doing well but I am very hungry and I feel very weak and dizzy. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to pass out. Is anyone one else struggling with this? Please share. Support is needed. I feel like I can't do this but I'm barely hanging on.

Apparently my hunger pains were real and not totally in my head. I talked to one of the nurses at my surgeons office about my issue and was informed that i could eat more than Clear liquids only, which is what I thought I was supposed to be doing.Mashed potatoes, Soup, fruit juice and more. I felt so much better after i Heard that. I ran out of the office and up to the Chinese place wanting soup. My first choice was egg flower but they only had wonton soup and it was yummy. Honestly i had one little wonton and trashed the rest, the soup settled great in my tummy and I was happy. After work, my roommate and I hit mothers market. So many fruit samples, my favorite was red…

  18. A recent European study found that a brisk walk for about 20 minutes per day by inactive individuals could reduce the risk of death significantly. The authors noted that of the approximately 9 million deaths in Europeans in 2008, based on the current study, 337,000 may have been linked to obesity, but twice that number may have been attributed to physical inactivity. http://acsh.org/2015/01/just-little-walking-confers-health-benefits/

  23. I am now 8 months out of surgery and 6 pounds away from my goal weight. I developed some great relationships with the professionals I worked with at the "un-named" university I had my surgery. I was really flattered when they called me up to ask if I could represent the program as a patient. There will be over 1000 people in attendance. If you were a potential patient coming to visit our informational booth what would you like to here? I have mentored others and I absolutely love it. All opinions are welcomed...thank you with all my heart❤️

I am so worried that this cold will not be gone by next week. I have my pre-op scheduled for next Tuesday the 20th and surgery on the 28th, and I am afraid if I am still coughing like I am now that they will want to post pone my surgery. I went to my PCP yesterday and he did give me an antibiotic but said it probably will not help since he thinks it is just a cold virus. I have asthma so this is exaserbating it, and I am coughing like crazy! Any advise as to how to get rid of this cold faster?? Thanks!

Been having lots of difficulty getting my Protein in. The protein powders and RTD bottles are all gagging me after 1 or 2 sips. I've tried just about everything that my nut has recommended, but nothing seems to work for me. I feel horrible...no energy and just want to sleep. I'm thinking about going off plan a little to get more protein from food. I'm only supposed to have 3 meals a day...up to 2 OZ of yogurt or cottage cheese or just an ounce of "meat" per meal. Thinking if I do to more little meals it might help. I know I can't eat more at a time cause it upsets my stomach. Saw this and I'm claiming it. I will get through this!!!

I'm ready to go, I think. I am nervous, mostly about the first couple weeks, but I've got my head around all the new lifestyle changes. I've been reading all the posts, and hope all of us January folks have fairly easy recoveries. My kids are going to their grandparents for a few days, and my husband seems all set up to help me out. I'm hoping to feel well enough by the weekend to play a lot of video games and watch old movies.

After a nearly year long process I finally got my surgery date of November 3rd. After taking several months to complete all the pre-op appts. I was ready to go when my insurance changed. My new insurance required me to do the 6 months of appts with my PCP. When I finally completed that it took a month to get insurance approval, but it was worth the wait. I am now in a good place and will be ready to go on November 3rd. Anyone else in November or have a surgery date close to mine? I would really like to be a support system to others as well as receive support. Hope to hear from you!

Holy smokes, I'm a raging pile of hot mess! I'm a little over a week out on bypass, I should be ecstatic, but instead, I want to gouge everyone's eyeballs out. Hubby was suppose to step up his game and help out around the house. I'm cooking, cleaning, taking care of kids, laundry, and everything else.. wtf!?! And when I voice my frustration it becomes a huge fight. There's no intimacy, no connection... which also makes my angry. How do I get past this? Is this normal for post op our should I seek professional help?

I had my surgery last Thursday and I'm home recovering. I've been making a few business calls and with the t.v. on, I'm dying over here. Every other commercial is FOOD. I'm not a super huge fan of Sonic, I've been there once. They keep advertising this french toast breakfast sandwich that looks amazing. I know I'm not the only one that gets these phantom hunger pains, i"m still on liquids for heavens sake. My tummy won't stop growling now. Any advice, other than turn the t.v. off??

I know that if you don't eat a lot of carbs then your body will use your fat stores for carbs. I would like to lose as much weight as possible, and am wondering if people are eating fruits and grains as a part of their weight loss journey (and are losing weight) or are they waiting to eat those things until after the goal weight has been achieved? I am 4weeks out and have been moved to the stage where I can have foods with texture again. I'd love to have a tiny sandwich on a toasted thin wheat bread, or maybe half of a tortilla roll up on a whole wheat tortilla, berries, etc...but I don't want to have slower weight loss as a result. Thoughts and food suggestions? Thank yo…

Hi all! New(ish) to the forum. I was here in 2012, considering a lap-band, but surgeon advised me to finish having kids before I did WLS. So here I am, done having kids, and now I'm looking at RNY. I go for my initial consult in a couple weeks, and if the timeline is anything like it was when I first saw my surgeon in 2012, I should be having my surgery in just a couple months. That said, I need to start thinking about recovery. I'm a stay-at-home mom and have 3 little kids, including a 2-year-old whom I still need to lift on occasion. For those who have done this surgery and have kids, can you please tell me: How long was it before you could lift your children? How long…

I have been doing the liquid diet now for 8 days. I was on a roll and had lost 11 lbs as of Sunday the 6th day. Then the morning of the 7th day I weigh myself and I have GAINED 4 lbs!! WTF! How is that even possible? I weighed myself again today and it's the exact same as yesterday. I'm so confused what is the problem? I just finished my menstrual cycle so it surely can't be that. I cannot get a hold of this pain. I know that I'm new here and all I post about it this pain. I have been given new med after new med and nothing truely comforts me. I am in constant communication with my surgeons NP I know I'm newly post op as on December 30th when I had my rny but i need some sort of relief for my sanity trying to deal with this much pain. I have been told over and over that it's part of the process I have no symptoms of anything wrong. No fever, nothing other the excruciating left side abdominal pain. Where my tummy is actually caved in. I cannot let go of it, clenching it 24/7 dare I let go and the pain escalates to almost unbearable.

  43. So I just wanted some of your options. I have been told at month 9, 10 ish post op rny by my new city's nut that I was eating to much for where I'm at. I was eating about 1 c , a lil more maybe at each meal. It was divided between meat and veg , mostly meat of course. So anyways my breakfast this morning was the following: measured 3.20 Oz of chicken, about 1/4 of a medium apple and about 3 tbls of peanut butter. I was full and normally I don't eat this kind of meal. Normally I don't measure but i wanted to start new because I have fell off the wagon with the holidays and I'm trying to start fresh. Typically I eat 1 egg and 3 pieces of turkey bacon and I'm good. But I'm …

I'm definitely a girl that likes flavor in her food. Nothing extravagant, maybe a hint of lime or butter or olive oil. There's nothing worse, in regards to food, than something with zero flavor. I don't want my food tasting like it came out of a school cafeteria. I'm only a few days out from surgery but the last four weeks of Protein shakes, liquids and Clear Liquids have taken a toll on my taste buds. No more more Jello, cranberry juice or tea, for today anyway:-) I have tonight's spin on chicken broth simmering on the stove as I write this.
