Hi all. The nurses told me not to weigh myself for a few days at least after surgery. I would not show loss because of all the iv fluids they pumped in me at hospital. So I am just curious when any of you noticed weight loss after surgery? Like did you wait a week to weigh yourself? Thanks!

I lost a little over 100 pounds with sleeve and have since gained half back. Feeling so many emotions- failure, hope, excitement, fear..... Certainly hoping insurance will cover but won't know until one more step in process is completed. I am worried about ease of transition foods/liquids post surgery, as I really wont have much help with meal prep. and instead will be surrounded by temptations out of my control because of my housemates. I thought I had said goodbye to the 300's....hope weight loss will be significant post bypass. definitely need to do things differently and have started, like therapy, nutritionist and support groups. Is there anyone in similar cir…

Hello. I am Tim. I'm 43 and having Gastric Bypass surgery on Friday, May 22. Of course I am nervous, a little about the pain and/or recovery; but also going through all of the dietary "stuff" I will need to master (for the rest of my life I might add). I was not good at measuring food, or focusing on it at all. Just eating it. So, this is a bit overwhelming. Anyone have any tips or comments that may help? thanks all.

Hello ladies and gents. My name is Hanna and I'm 23. I live in st charles mo and I am at the starting line. I have tried this roofers once before but got caught up and side tracked with the supervised diet. I could really use a friend/mentor to help me with this process. I know my family really wants me to have the surgery and I do not want to let them down again. Anyone who wants to be friends and encourage each other? I'd love to talk to veterans and newbies alike.

A week after gastric bypass has anyone done a drop of fat free cream in their coffee. If so, any issues. It's my only thing I want so badly right now is a half cup of coffee with a tiny drop of cream.

I finally got my surgery date scheduled for 6/16/15. I'm excited but nervous at the same time. Am worried about not losing the weight and not being able to make the lifestyle changes needed. I would love to hear from those of you who have been through it already and get any words of advice you have!

Between y'day & today, I've been dealing with some nausea... Today is a little worse than y'day. I know I can eat some more. Barely had a half of a chicken breast for dinner and I feel so nauseas. All I want is to just drink. Water. Nothing else. However I still need to get my proteins I'm for the rest of the day. Aside from that concern, in general I DON'T want to eat... At all... I'm tired of just proteins and in fact I believe that is actually why I'm getting nauseated when due to eat or am eating. I cannot just do proteins drinks bc I don't want to develop a textural issue with food and need my body to 'want' to eat and chew... Anyone else have this issue? W…

Hi all..... i haven't been on here for a bit. I got a little frustrated back in March when I finally met with my surgeon and he told me that he would try and do my surgery but that because I had previous abdominal surgery for a different issue (benign pancreatic tumor) that he wasn't sure he would be able to do it. Basically, I could go in, have them put me under, have him make some incisions, look around, and then not be able to do anything because of adhesions and scar tissue. I really appreciate that he's being honest and that he wouldn't do anything to hurt me -- I mean, safety first, right? Has anyone successfully had bariatric surgery after having previous…

My last nutrition class was April 10th and they called April 15th to tell me that they sent all of my paperwork to insurance. On April 27th I get a letter from insurance stating that they need my sleep study report and two different dates I was told they sent it when they didn't. I had to go get the report myself last Thursday and send it to my surgeons office and I call Monday and insurance still doesn't have it. I only call 1-2 times a week but I'm worried that I'm driving them crazy. I wish they would hurry up because I want this band out of me and really want the bypass. My lower back has started hurting so bad again and the acid reflux has come to join the party. ??…

How many of you thought okay I am going to have this surgery and they are going to cut most of my stomach off and the weight will just drop off. Now I knew this surgery was different from the bypass but in know way did I think I would have to work so hard to loose a pound when I can't even eat but a few spoonfuls of anything. Now I am find with my slow progress BUT sometimes I sit back and say I did think this would be a little easier. Anyone else have those thoughts, I know dam well I am not the only one who is thinking this.

Hey all, On April 28th I got the roux-en-y bypass. This is my first surgery. I didn't have any pre-existing health issues. The surgery went great. However I noticed I was getting a numb/sleepy/pain in my left leg above my knee. I reported it to my nurse while in the the hospital and they gave me blood thinners and anti coagulation as well. I don't have any swelling, redness or heat. It only hurts so far when I am putting pressure on it for a long period of time. My surgeon told me it is probably a bruised nerve and should be gone in 2 weeks. When the pain hits it feels as though there is someone squishing the veins in that portion of my leg. I can fully rotate it and…

Hi there! Has anyone out there had Anterior cervical spinal fusion after RNY? My spine surgery is scheduled for June 3rd. I have 3 levels that need to be fused as there is damage to the vertebrae, the discs are almost completely gone, I have spinal stenosis which has resulted in a flattening on my spinal cord and I have spondylothesis which means one of my vertebrae has actually slipped out of place and is putting pressure on the nerve. Also I have bone spurs called by arthritis. All of this is putting severe pressure on the nerves and spinal cord causing terrible neck and shoulder pain, headaches and numbness and tingling down my left arm. I have been doing a t…

I'm scared I'll stretch my pouch!!!! Is this normal to feel like this? Am I drinking too much or is it my head playing games ?!

Hello, I say I'm looking for buddies in Virginia, but I'll take buddies from wherever you happen to be. I am in the pre-surgery phase and having a hard time getting used to everything. I have my good days where I get all my Proteins and waters in and then I have bad days where I have a hollow leg and stuff everything I see down my throat. Not conducive to a successful post-surgery. What I'm looking for is someone I can be accountable to who can encourage me when I want to reach for that whatever it happens to be at the time. I need the surgery; I'm carrying around an extra "me" and it is affecting every part of my life. In return, I offer my support, friendship, and p…

RNY was done on 04/21/15. Was kept longer in the hospital because of an intestinal blockage that eventually cleared itself up on the 24th. Recovery was going well, was planning on getting back to work in the morning, but had been experiencing abdominal discomfort nearly all day. Got worse at night when I attempted to get to sleep. Drove myself to the ER at 1:30am, and one CT scan (and some morphine) later, I have another blockage Anyone else experience this? I'm so frustrated; everything was going ok otherwise. I've even lost 25lbs already...

Someone please help! I've tried to do the protein shakes but they are gross. I can't stand milk. I've never liked any kind of milk, so of course it makes the protein shakes even worse. I bought a whole case of premier protein shakes and I try to force myself to drink it but because I hate it so much the very thought of it makes me nauseous. Is there any advice you can give this 2 weeks post op chick?

Already had the surgery, 3mons postop now. As some know, riding season is on us. Normally riding with the hubby is an afternoon ride and we stop for lunch and/or dinner to accommodate my eating schedule. Fluids are a non issue as I own several camelpaks to use on the rides. However, we have a group ride/vacation planned for August this year, and the big ride day is a 12+hr ride day in the North Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina Mountains, there is a stop for lunch planned, but Breakfast and dinner are on our own. I can scarf a boiled egg for breakfast, but what can I pack as non perishable Snacks that meet the dietary guidelines postop? Nuts I already tolerate wel…

My Surgery is scheduled for May 4th. I am excited and nervous at the same time. Dr. Steven Simper is my Doc in Salt Lake City. I have been super impressed with the program at Rocky Mountain Associated Physicians. They truly care about the patient's long term success. They require that I go through 2 pre surgery education sessions and enroll in their post surgery support groups. They also have a great partnership with a Nutrition and Counseling group and put on regular seminars. Anyway, I am looking forward to the change in my life. Anyone else scheduled for May? What are you doing to prepare for the surgery?

On Tuesday I'll be three weeks post op RNY. I've lost 31 pounds so far, pre and post op. I went to a luncheon with old co-workers Friday, many complimented me on my weight loss. I heard the same from a neighbor and some folks at church. Wow, what an awesome feeling!! (And all I tell people when they ask what I've done is eat less). I'm already down a bra size (band, not cup). I'm a person who always had an overactive bladder. I'd always be searching for a bathroom wherever we went. Since surgery, that's gone. I can run my errands without visiting every toilet known to man. I'm doing well on purees, no nausea, vomiting, stuck or foamies. I go back to work on Mo…

I guess I'll start. Hydrating is tough for me. I've never done well with hydrating, even before the surgery. It always seems like such a chore. I push myself daily to at least meet the minimum, but I know I need to do better. I've always been one of those people who doesn't eat until she absolutely has too (and by then I am starving). I do my best to remember to bring small, light, healthy Snacks, but in the hustle and bustle I often forget... Since my surgery, all things Protein seem to turn me off. I'm finding ways (I am only 7.5 weeks out) to trick my mind and tastebuds, but it is definitely a challenge. I'm sure as time goes on I'll get the hang of it. I fee…

I had my revision (band to GB) on May 13th, stayed in the hospital until May 15th and have been recuperating at home since. The pain was awful immediately after the surgery, pretty bad the day after, bad the following days and it has been manageable today. I used the liquid hydrocone until yesterday but decided no more because... (TMI coming), I had no BM since the surgery and I was starting to get worried. Today I had my first BM and it felt like such a relief. I had to use Milk of Magnesia and Benefiber, but it was worth it (even just for the peace of mind). I'm constantly sipping in my 2 TBS cup so I hope I'm meeting my liquid requirements (I'm not tracking but si…

I've had awful pain in the right side of my abdomen. Finally went to the doc who sent me to the er for a CT scan. Everything was eliminated (like divmetriculousis) but I'm still sick. I have a high white blood cell count and low grade fever. I called my surgeon whose nurse said she'd get back to me with an appointment but never did. My abdomen is distended. Remember how painful it was to get up and down right after surgery? That's what I'm experiencing again. I don't expect anyone to have answers; I just need to put this out here. btw, more test scheduled for Tuesday.

I thought I might post this here in hopes someone else may have experienced this what I am. I will be reaching out to my surgeons office tmrw morning, but some insight on what may be happening would be great. I'm not exactly sure how many days now that my symptoms have been happening, I'm noticing it more frequently which prompted me to try and look into it. Recently I began noticing that if I am sitting and my hands are helping to support me up (if leaning on a bench or something) almost immediately it will go number and when I sit up, they get tight, clench and scarily almost feel paralyzed for ten seconds until some sensation comes back into them. Also when I blo…

Okay so ever since I started my Vitamins and other supplements I have broken out twice on my right cheek on my face. I have never had acne or pimple issues in my life. I always get compliments on my skin and ever since surgery this started to happen. Could it be too much of something that I am taking that is causing this? Has anyone else had any reactions like this? I've been putting some ointment on it and it seems to be helping out a bit. Just sucks that this keeps happening.

I'm two weeks post op RNY. So today I need to trade out my winter clothes for summer clothes. It dawned on me that I won't need the winter wardrobe I currently have again. I can't wrap my mind around that. I have a smidgen of 'will it work that well' doubt, making me contemplate holding on to everything, just in case. I held on to some of my smaller sizes and I'm thanking my stars I did, it'll save money as I move down in sizes. And another part of me knows I need to let go of my 'fat security blanket'. But there is a familiarity with the wardrobe I have now. I made a point to buy clothes I loved that made me feel good in them, classy etc. Of course I'll love shoppi…

I love that I can make my own speciality drinks without having to worry about dumping because of the sugar content or ordering something sugar free and it's really regular. I'm a happy girl.

Welp... Sadly I've hit what I believe is the dreaded stall. I'm not letting it get me down. I've lost what my nutritionist says, to be double the weight in the first three weeks... So I guess it only makes sense. For three days I've stayed the same or lost only 2-3oz. I also began eating moist proteins y'day which I've been warned as I transition over to expect a stall. I'm really hoping to lose another 10-15 lbs by next month, my b'day, but also my sisters wedding. My goal was 30 lbs by b'day but I've already reached that so I would like 40-45 lbs in total by then. Can I jump start by adding a ton of protein more than required amount and exercise to get over the stall…

So here is my story from the beginning as I am new to this forum. I had my lap band done in May 2011 at the time I weighed 281 lbs. I was able to get down to 230 within 6 months but then just stalled out. In 2013 I got pregnant and had my daughter 2/25/15 but after having her I could not get back under 250. (I had extreme port pain the last few months of my pregnancy I think from my growing belly and stuff, some days I wanted to cut it out myself because it hurt so bad) So, I decided to have it converted to gastric bypass. I went into it like it was no big deal and thought I would be fine because I didn't have much pain when I had the band put in. But, on 3/19/15 I wok…

Hey guys, so I am almost 5 months out and lost a total of 60 pounds (14pounds was from my preop diet) so what exactly is this dumping syndrome people experience with RNY? I think I had it a couple times where I felt very nauseous after I ate something my body didn't like but that was more In the beginning. I don't feel that anymore and I am careful of what I eat. And as far as sweets goes when I went to support groups I was told no sugar or you will dump. Now after surgery my taste buds have completely changed and I hate sweets now which is a major blessing but I do however have a small piece of 72% dark chocolate occasionally. I guess my question is, does thi dumping syn…
