I don't really need a response. Just needed to vent. So discouraged with getting food stuck & subsequently vomiting when trying to progress food stages. One day something works and the next it doesn't. I think my issue today following chicken was more that I had an issue yesterday and should have gone back to liquids for 24 hours but didn't. I am NOW but tough lesson to learn. Sincerely hope that it isn't this difficult to eat the rest of my life. I need a new strategy. Like maybe limiting myself to only 5 bites when it is chicken or something I know can get stuck? Ugh. Tired, Sore. Going to bed... Tomorrow is a new day.... And yes, I know, "it does get …

So it's been 3 months. I had a sw of 324 and I am down to 245 as of this morning. I have my 3 month follow up tomorrow. Is 59 lbs since surgery a good number?! I am eating ok so I think, I'm walking so much. I am just so nervous. Im seeing the hard work pay off. Im just so worried about what my surgeon will say. I guess I am seeking approval. I know I'm a grown woman, I should deal, but I want my surgeon to say good job! Sigh...

I'm about 9 days away from surgery and I keep craving food like mad the closer it gets. I've fought off the cravings now for a few weeks, have felt like I've been starving myself for weeks, feel like I've done a great job barely ever sneaking a bad carb. BUT..... I feel like if it's this bad now, how bad is it going to be after surgery when it's all done? Is this normal at the stage I'm at? Is it normal to feel like I'm starving? I don't want to feel so hungry anymore. Please someone tell me it's going to feel different post op then it does now.

Tomorrow I will be 3 weeks post op. For the past few days, every time I eat I get the Slimies. I just ate a very soft scrambled egg (I am allowed this btw) and I'm suffering. I ate it very slow (can't imagine eating it over 20 minutes) and I still got the Slimies. Any suggestions?

First, this is not about me; I'm still pre-op (Sept 9!!!) I just started a new job and a co-worker had bypass some time in the last few years, per my employer (I gather it's general knowledge; we're a small group of about 14 employees, and my boss was warning me b/c this person has developed severe anemia due to malabsorption) Anyway, I don't know her well enough yet to ask any personal questions, but the other day I was eating lunch and she ate a 6 inch sub. I think she gave away the chips with a comment about regaining all her weight. She may also have had a soda but I wasn't positive. What I am wondering is, is that size meal normal eventually after bypass or d…

Hi everyone! I'm only 5 days post op from gastric bypass. All has gone ok but I am randomly getting hungry for specific things such as bread with butter and watermelon. I "felt" hungry when I was in the hospital and my doctor said it was all in my head! Any one else have this happen? Is this going to screw up my progress in the future??

Anyone here that knows what kind of complications are common long term after bypass? I'm talking about 5, 10+ year veteran's? I'm so scared about having this surgery and it being great at the beginning but then later on down the road having a bunch of stuff going wrong.

I know this post is older but I was reading everyone's stories and desperately need help. I am 38 year old female and 12 years post RNY and removal of gallbladder. I became lactose intolerant immediately after surgery but have had severe abdominal pains for years after drinking wine, alcohol, etc. I thought it was an ulcer but just had upper/lower scope done a few weeks ago; removed a couple polyps from colon but no big deal and no ulcer seen. I have been having bad headaches for years with chronic constipation, bloating, gas, vomiting and Dr after Dr to find no answers... A couple days ago I became the most ill of all!!! I started having the most severe stomach pain imag…

I'm curious - for those who didn't have to go through the doctor-supervised weight loss for 6 months, how long did it take between the first visit and your surgery? I'm going for my first visit Wednesday, and I'm wondering what kind of wait I'm in for before I can have the surgery.

Hello! I live in the Albany NY area (Troy actually) and am in the pre-op stage, working my way toward approval for gastric bypass surgery. This is the second WLS for me - I had a band in 2011 which I had a lot of problems with for the whole time I had it, and achieved very little weight loss. In 2011 it slipped and had to be removed. That experience was so bad that I didn't think I'd ever consider another form of WLS. Fast forward to today. I have managed to keep off the 50 lbs I lost with the band but am still considerably overweight and it has finally caught up with me and started affecting my health. Nothing too serious, but things that are associated with obesity and…

Currently I am in absolute freak out mode! I have my final visit before I submit everything to insurance on July 2nd, and I am losing my mind!! Actually psyching myself out is the better terminology. I have BCBSMN, and am wondering if anyone else out there has it as well. I'am trying to find out overall (doesn't matter what plan you have) How long did it take to get approved after you had submitted all the information to the insurance? Did anyone get denied, if so, how long did the appeal process take? What surgery did you have? How was the pain level? Anything you can compare the pain of post op to? What was your diet like post-op? Did anyone skip the liquid stag…

Hi all I'm newbie here ???? I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Nancy and will be having gastric bypass surgery on June 24th. I'm 39 and have been overweight for half of my life. In my late 20's lost over 110 lbs on Weight Watchers. Then very shortly after got married and pregnant and gained all my weight back plus 50 lbs more... it's been a long almost 10 years yo yo dieting to get the weight off...nothing has worked. With my health getting bad high BP, sleep apnea and Intercranial Hypertension. The surgery is the final straw to get my health and life back. I'm very excited and scared at the same time. So happy I found this forum for support and information... …

Here is an update since I haven't posted in a while.....my surgery was submitted July 7th to insurance and denied on that following Tuesday due my psychiatric evaluation. The insurance coordinator said I have to do 3 additional months of monitored weight loss AND one week sessions for 3 months with a psychiatrist, psychologist, or psychotherapist. BEFORE I can evern appeal the denial. I completely lost my mind....bawling, hyperventilating and just in utter disbelief....at that moment I felt defeated, and like I've failed....yEt again... Now that I have had time to ask my questions, voice my concern and really sit on the fact it was denied, this is what has happened. On …

I realize that there are local organized meetings thru the area bariatrics program but I'd like to connect to some other people that are pre op and in final stretch. I want to know I'm not the only one sitting in this town waiting and wondering and sitting in my own head with all my thoughts good and bad. My wife is wonderful but there's so much she doesn't understand not being in my shoes. So many things she's worried about that I can't even begin to comfort her on because I just don't know how to comfort the woman I love, the mother of my children when she's asks the "what if...." Question. I just don't cannot handle more on my plate (wow weird to say those last f…

This week it was 3 mos since surgery. Looking back it feels like time went really fast but I know in the day to day it didn;t feel like it. I am in a routine, food wise, eating the same things. Can't tolerate chicken, any bread and throw up if eating too fast or more than 3 oz per meal. No cravings and really no hunger. I stalled at 3 weeks post-op for about 12 days but since then has been steady, about 3 lbs a week or 10-13 lbs a month. Fluids are still an issue and struggle to get in the recommended 64 oz/d. Protein intake avg around 60 g/d and still trying to get it up. Not good at taking my Calcium and multivit every day but know I need to. 50 lbs is good I think and …

Wow! I just decided to see what a 4oz portion would be like to eat (so i have an idea of my forever portion of protein) and WOW! It took some serious patience to keep chewing and chewing and chewing something that I could have swallowed immediately as it melts on entry. But I made it 27 minutes. Sadly I'm craving fluids both while eating and after as has been an issue I have t figured out a way around just yet. Any advice on that? I always drink while I eat so above all else the no drinking 1 hour prior/after is going to be rough on me.

I've trying to transition to Vitamins that I can swallow. (I'm Almost 3 months post op). It's not going well, even if I cut them in half, the pills are just too thick. Yesterday I choked on a "miniature" Calcium pill then threw it up. (It was embarrassing since I work around medics and EMT's, they wanted to check me out, which I really didn't need.) So back on chewabless I go, unless someone has an idea about how else I could take them. Ugh, I've invested a good amount in pills I can't do anything with now!

Hi all! I'm 3 and a half months post op and down 64# my biggest problem is having no appetite for anything! All meats taste off to me and I have no cravings, no desire to eat 95% of the time. The only things I am actually wanting are sugar free popsicles and ice water. I know I have to have protein, but some days it makes me physically ill to eat anything. I am starting to notice that my body is getting weak, so I know it's damaging :-( Anyone experience these kind of things? Suggestions?

I lost 90 lbs total by the time I was 6 months post-op. I haven't lost an ounce since then. I just celebrated my first year and am doing everything right. I was called the model patient for so many reasons, but the numbers are not budging. I am a super-disciplined person, I eat very slowly, have no emotional relationship with food, and cook everything myself. I am really at a loss. I moved away from my doctor's office after 7 months, and lost all support. No dietitian, no post-op appointments, no blood-work, nothing. Mostly, I mourn the feedback. As my pouch adjusted, I have been able to easily get an entire yogurt down without much effort. I have started adding 5 …

Today was a total food fail! I'm almost 5 weeks post rny and graduated to soft foods last Friday. It's been going good with no problems until today. I went shopping with a friend about 2 hours from home. I tried an omelet for Breakfast at a cafe. After about 3 bites of egg with cheese, spinach, and tomato and toast with Peanut Butter it all came back up. Then for supper we went to Olive Garden. I had grilled salmon and garlic mashed potatoes. Again after a few bites it all came back up. I did have applesauce in between with no problem and yogurt on the way home. First time anything has made me sick. I've had eggs and mashed potatoes without problems so not real…

I am new to this group and bariatric surgery..Trying to learn all I can (what to expect!) I am a 31BMI, not considered heavy enough for surgery but I have a pyloric stenosis that has to be dialated ever 3-4 weeks and surgery is my only cure. I had kidney cancer in 8/2012 and have been gaining ever since. I have always been a skinny gal but now I'm a 16sz and miserable due to my health and weight. My doctor us doing the RNY to fix both my blockages and help my health from progressing worse...I'm 48-live in Pensacola, FL..can't wait to meet everyone..thanks for accepting me into the groups!

Wow, this is so hard. I am starting Day #3 and I don't even want to get out of bed. It's amazing what a motivator food was/is for me and now it's gone. I am allowed 4 shakes, 2 bars, and a small banana each day for my 14 days. What doesn't help is that I am at the beach with my 14 person extended family and there is junk food everywhere! I knew these two events would coincide but knowing it doesn't make it any easier. Plus, I am a savory/ comfort food girl, not at all into sweets, so these "chocolate" and "vanilla" "shakes" are just icky to me. Ok, pity party over. Anyone else want to commiserate? It will all be worth it, I know, but this is really hard!!

It's weird, my knees and joints were fine when I was at my max weight before surgery. Now I'm having lots of pain in one or both knees. My friend who is a physical therapist thinks that rapid weight loss means muscle mass loss which can lead to other parts carrying the displaced weight - in other words , I lost my butt and the glut muscles that were working to carry my weight before the loss- now my knees are. Any one else ever heard this theory? I am just hoping PT friend is right and knees aren't injured.

I know I'm probably going to be preaching to the choir but here goes. I know I'm on my way to a much healthier life filled with compliments and praises from people who see the difference. I so happy that I made the decision to have my surgery and dealing with the skin issues afterward is something I'll address after I reach my goal. What most people don't see or even know is that we even have the loose skin or the jiggle of the fat that still needs to be lost. Exercise helps with muscle tone and strength, but fat will only break down so fast, and not overnight. It's ok by me because I know that in the end I'll not only look better/different, but will be healthie…

In just had my NUT appointment yesterday. I'm concerned. All the books I've read, forums, and websites I've read say four stages of post op diet. liquid, puréed, soft, and then solids. Apparently my surgeon skips all of those! He does ice until I can keep it down, then 24 hour liquid diet, then straight to soft foods for a month. I'm in shock, panic, utter disbelief! Is this safe?! I'm so nervous now! Help help please help! Anyone else's like this?

I had my surgery January 8th 2015, I'm a week shy of being 6 months out from my surgery. I'm down 60 pounds and loving it. I really wish I'd lost more by now but with two bad knees exercise isn't much of an option. Both my knees have zero cartilage left and are bone on bone. Every step I take you can hear and feel my bones grinding on each other, it's sounds like glass smoothing and feels like it too. As if that isn't depressing enough, I'm not losing weight anymore. Thank god I'm not gaining but I'm still not losing. Next Friday I start getting Synvisc injections in my knees and I pray that helps so I can start going to the gym again without being in crazy pain. Anyone…

So I was on blood pressure meds for years prior to my bypass on 4/28, even took it day of surgery as per doc's instructions. I don't take it immediately after surgery and my blood pressure was running a little high at my first two post op visits. So I went back on the bp meds and have been on them since. And of course, my pressure is normal with them. I'm down 50#s now; so if you're taking bp meds, how would you ever know if your bp has normalized due to your weight loss?

I am just joining but I had a gastric bypass in 2008. I weighed 342 on the day of my surgery and now weigh 198. I know that is success but I would like to weigh 145. I have a large amount of loose skin everywhere and it is ugly. I am severely disabled and my exercise regime is very limited. I have trigeminal neuralgia, arthritis in all joints except elbows and several auto-immune diseases. I am bound to a wheelchair and live in constant pain for which I am heavily medicated. Don't get me wrong ! I don't ever feel sorry for myself. I have a great family and the best husband in the world. I am so full of love for them I could explode. I developed a large blood clot in my…

For three years now I've had a lot of trouble with both my knees. I'd been told numerous times that because of my weight my knees were both, bone on bone and I had osteoarthritis. Long story short, double knee replacement surgery was in my future. Since my surgery in January I've done very little exercise, due to the lack of flexibility and intense pain. I finally got into a pain management center and was ready to get my first Synvisc injection when the dr looked at my ex rays and told me I had the knees of a 20 year old. I don't have osteoarthritis at all, I have water on the knee and a lot of it. A knee in good condition should only hold 5 cc's of fluid. The dr remove…

I have been going through the process of preparing for a bypass. The literature that my doctor gave me says most people lose one third of their total body weight after the surgery. That would put me at 200 pounds and I really want to lose more than that. how many of you have lost more than one third of your body weight and are your results typical?

I knew 4th of July weekend could be challenging. We went out to the cottage that we share with my husbands family. I had enough food there for me to be safe as their choices aren't exactly the best. But as I sit with my plate of chicken, green beans and cantaloupe I watch the adults in my life (who are ALL overweight and MIL has RAGING diabetes) pile carbs and carbs and carbs onto their plate. Burger w bun, potato salad, Mac & Cheese, etc etc. Then my FIL buys my daughter a bday cake. Not just a small cake a FULL sheet cake! And THEN he pulls out a homemade pound cake for my SIL with fudge, caramel, etc for toppings. Who does he think is going to eat this?! T…
