Anyone else having knee pain AFTER weight loss

Recommended Posts

It's weird, my knees and joints were fine when I was at my max weight before surgery. Now I'm having lots of pain in one or both knees.

My friend who is a physical therapist thinks that rapid weight loss means muscle mass loss which can lead to other parts carrying the displaced weight - in other words , I lost my butt and the glut muscles that were working to carry my weight before the loss- now my knees are.

Any one else ever heard this theory?

I am just hoping PT friend is right and knees aren't injured.

I have been going to physical therapy for three months to help with the joint aches and pains that I have started having since I lost a bunch of weight so fast. I go to a center with a hot pool, and the work is really helping me. I've always had arthritis, but never had pain until I lost weight. I don't know the answers to all this, but I do know the therapy is helping and I am getting better.

My surgeon said the reason is that our posture changes as we lose weight, making us stand more upright. So our muscles have to work in a different way to accommodate the better posture.

My orthopedic surgeon told me the same thing. I had hoped all this weight loss would take pressure off my spine and relieve pain in some of my joints. My ankles and knees are definately better but because I am more active and my posture has changed the joints in my spine are definately impacted.

Add me to the list of post-weight loss gals with knee arthritis. A contestant reminder what being overweight can do to your body in the long haul. My poor little knees had to support all that extra weight for so long! ???? Dreams to be a runner some day crushed!

Thanks all!

I start bootcamp workout next week - 1 hour of circuit training to really amp up the exercise and weight loss. Worried about this one knee as well as the intensity of the workout for me being 10 weeks post op -

Do we think the weight training will help build the muscle to support the knees???

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
