I am 19 weeks out from surgery. I have had some complications after the surgery and have been hospitalized 2 times. First I developed something called a beazor in my stomach which causes you to have stomach pains, vomiting, and not be able to eat anything without throwing up, so that was taken care of. A month after that, I still kept getting the stomach pains but this time not so much vomiting just a really strong pain in the middle of my stomach when ever I ate, so my doc decided to remove my gallbladder cause after running some tests, he found a few tiny stones. We thought that having the gallbladder removed would be the end to that, but a week after that surgery I be…

I had gastric bypass on July 7. I drank a protien shake on July 6th. It's July 10. I feel so nauseated I can't even eat nor think about eating. I managed to get 1 1/2 sugar free pre made jello cups down. 4 days and only ate 1 1/2 cups. Is this normal. I tried to drink a water down protein shake but it made me vomit. Will I get be able to get my appetite back?

It's exactly one month since my surgery! I can't believe how fast the time went. I'm down 25lbs and honestly can't believe that I already am feeling different. My pants fit a little loose, I can work out a little longer, my face looks a little thinner, I never knew 25lbs could show all that. I'm able to eat most soft foods without a problem, usually around a 1/2 cup at a time, sometimes maybe a couple bites more. I haven't gotten really sick or anything, which is a relief because I was really nervous about that! It's tough sometimes, it gets overwhelming still. And it's hard talking to people who don't get it, I try to be patient but it's frustrating when people thin…

My doc has recommended bypass, and I'm 90% sure that's what I'm going to do. Yet when I get on Bariatric Pals, it seems the majority of the people talk about the sleeve. They say it has fewer complications, doesn't cause nutritional probs or hair loss, is a more up to date procedure and that the weight loss is comparable. Yet, my doc says bypass is gold standard, better stats and better long term weight loss and maintenance. So those of you who have had bypass, what's your real life experience? What's the good, bad, miserable about bypass? Is there anything you wish you had known or wish you could change? Don't worry about "scaring" me. Knowledge is power for me. If I kno…

Hi Everybody! I am about half way through my WL journey and REALLY struggling with CARBS! I was a definite carb addict when I put all my weight on but, have had it under control for a while. I now see some old habits creeping back that I know will derail my WLS. I told on myself to my doctor yesterday and told her that its almost as if I have no clue how I got back here! Its like one day I said OK to a bite of potato and now...its "oh, ok ..a few pretzels or yeah sure..a bite of bread! I'm so disappointed in myself for doing this! Especially since we all know that the only way out is carb detox again! I just wanted to put this out there to all of you and see what your tho…

I had my RNY Mar. 18th. I've lost 60 lbs since my pre-op diet in February. I saw the PA at the surgeons office this week, and he really hounded me about exercising. I felt he was dismissive about the constipation, and I felt like he was looking for what I was doing wrong, instead of encouraging me. If he had even given me a little verbal "pat on the back" for what I have accomplished I would feel so much better about myself. I thought 60 lbs was pretty good for 4 months, especially since I am disabled, with serious spine problems. The PA kept telling me I should try Water exercises, etc, even though walking in water is is more painful that regular walking for my spine. I…

I am scheduled by RNY on July 22. I am getting some major concern/lectures from my daughters, ages 30 and 32. One is just concerned with the possible surgical problems and potential complication but she sees is as totally my decision and she'll support me no matter what. My other daughter, the health nut, is a different story. She is an 'expert' on finding things online to support her views - which include being an anti-vaxxer. She questions anything mainstream medicine. But she is my daughter and I want to address her concerns. My situation is that I had a lap-band in 2005 when I weighed 245. Did well with it for 5 years, lost down to 170 and was happy with that. Then…

I'm in the process of hoop jumping for my insurance. As long as I perform all of my tricks successfully, I should be approved for surgery by the end of the year. My question is this. If I have surgery in December/January, what will my life be like in March. My fiancé and I are planning on getting married in March in Vegas. I understand that I won't be able to drink alcohol and food things will be different, such as smaller meals and avoiding high fat/sugar stuff, but what will it be more like post-op three months? Thanks in advance, Chante'

I had a stall for a few weeks and then lost 2 3/4 pounds, stall over! I have a gym membership to Planet Fitness and before I moved I was there 3or 4 times a week. Now I don't live close to the gym and have barely gone, my fault sort of. Since I moved my knees have been bothering me so much more than before. Tomorrow I start my Synvisc injections and I pray to god they work so I can put off double knee replacement surgery. In the hopes that all goes well, I bought a really nice recumbent bike to use at home. I rode it tonight for 30 minutes and my knees were clicking the majority of the time and now I'm hurting pretty good. Hopefully this pain is worth the effort. Surger…

I went shopping for our annual Thanksgiving meal yesterday. I was trying to think of wise food choices this year - not just for me but for the family. I opted on grilled vegetables in place of starchy corn, turkey & ham (Protein, Protein, protein), etc. I do not believe that weight gain is inevitable during the holidays. There is no rule that you have to gorge until you are over-full. I am focusing on the great times with family and friends rather than the food. A different perspective perhaps. I will make my families favorites such as stuffing balls, sweet potato souffle, and the likes. I'm thinking a late Thanksgiving walk may be a way to ward off any unwan…

Hello everyone, or anyone...I have had my gastric bypass just a little over a year ago and lost 105 lbs. I'm scared to try to lose more because of the skin hanging all over my body...you can exercise only so much to tone it up. I'm having a meeting with my primary doctor to have him check me out and see if he can recommend the excess skin needs to be taken off due to "medical reasons". I have to have that for my insurance to "possibly" cover it. I hate my body now. Yes, I expected the weight loss, however, I did not consider all this hanging skin. Now it's depressing me and I feel miserable.

Hi Friends, I was wondering if anyone has had an experience with Kaiser switching band to bypass? If so Id love to hear your story. I had a band put in self pay in 09 because I was not fat enough for Kaiser to pay for it. Now they will cover taking it out and giving me the bypass but I have the 6 months worth of hoops to jump through. So frustrating to have to wait so long even though I am thrilled that at least Im covered now because my bmi is even lower. Hate insurance...anyone else with Kaiser?

I cannot emphasize how important it is to track your food and liquids. Every time I have hit a stall, I have been able to look back and see what was different. Twice it was because I wasn't getting enough food in. My nutritionist was able to look back through MyFitnessPal and see the issue. Tracking keeps you accountable for your choices. I went through gastric bypass which as most of you know is NOT FOR SISSIES and I decided that it would be so stupid to go through all of this only to end up where I started by gaining weight back. You have to choose to be diligent about tracking. You have to choose to want to be successful. Choose wisely!!

I'm new to BariatricPal. I'd really like to find a mentor or support person I could talk to on a regular basis. I had the gastric bypass surgery back in April of 2009. I followed all the things I was told to do at that time. Had lost over 100 lbs. I have gained 30 lbs back. I'm afraid I am going to continue gaining. I'm also afraid that I have ruined my surgery and stretched my stomach out. I live in Eastern Oregon. I would appreciate any help or suggestions. My name is jimmi.

I had lap band placed in 2009, lost about 40 lbs the first 3 months and ended up pregnant. Gained all the weight back and then some. Tried fills after having my daughter, but nothing really worked. So, I'm now trying to convert to another wls and just so unsure which way to go. I have been researching, youtubing, and reading forums. My dr removed my lap band in May 2015. No issues with reflux, slippage, erosions, etc. I initially decided on the sleeve, but I've read so many issues such as slow or no weight loss due to being a conversion, sleeve revising to bypass, and sleeves starting to have more issues with leaks. I guess I need to stay offline. Bypass is considered the…

To start out, would do my surgery over again in a heartbeat. I have had so many good days. Two weeks ago o started getting sick so I thought I was constipated even though i was going every day. I took fiber then exploded for 48 hours. It stopped and then then started again a couple of days later. Ever since I haven't been able to control it. Food doesn't seem to matter, or I would think I ate something to cause dumping syndrome. Whenever I eat, it ALL COMES OUT within 2 hours and it's all liquid. It has gotten so bad that even when I think everything is gone and I can go to bed... Nope I can't. I'm leaking at night and it's all liquid. It's horrible. I'm suppo…

I went to the doctor to start this process of getting my lapband taken out and getting gastric bypass on April 19th, I have my surgery date for May 14! I can't wait to get this band out of me. I lost around 100 lbs the first year I had it then I couldn't keep things down I was throwing up a lot, kept going back to my doctor cause I started gaining weight back he asked my why I failed.... I felt terrible I thought I was the only one, that's how he made me feel anyway. I found a new doctor and he said they take out the lapband all the time , it's the band that failed. Reading all your posts I'm feeling better and looking forward to a positive new beginning.

I had gastric bypass 6 weeks ago today. I have had very little problems introducing solid foods. So I started to get a little cocky -- a couple of days ago I had peas for the first time. I had a LOT of pain and gas. I was wondering what that was all about -- "Could that have been 'dumping syndrome'?" Last night, I had corn on the cob. After two bites, I decided to not have any more. Well thank goodness for some common sense! I really suffered discomfort, gas, and nausea - this time after about an hour of fighting it, I finally lost my dinner (which instantly relieved all my suffering). What was I thinking? Peas? Corn? Two veggies with a lot of sugar -- surprise, surprise …

I'll be having having Gastric Bypass surgery in July! Yay! I was wondering what exactly will I need to buy far as supplies and food is concerned? What types of broth or soups do you all recommend? What types of protein shakes? Can you give me an idea of what the main things I would need would buy? And of course a list of things you may think I may want or could use? Also what exactly do you recommend I take to the hospital. I was told the hospital stay is generally 2-4 days without complications, but since I live so far away my surgeon suggested I stay in town a few extra days. I appreciate any advice and thank you all in advance.

I've just begun the official part of this process. Attended seminar, met with surgeon, met with internist, nutrition class and upper gi this week. Sure would like to find a couple of folks to walk through this with and mutually encourage one another , as well as someone who has "been there; done that" and is willing to mentor me through the process. A little about me: I'm 56 (have no clue how that happened so quickly), live in TN, educator/therapist, love dogs, children, & laughing. Nothing more important to me than faith, family, friends, & finally getting my food addiction under control. But to walk this together, we don't have to have any of those in common!!…

So I had my sleeve 2012. I was great for the first year... Year 2 I started getting a little reflux... But year 3, This past year, has been a nightmare. I am on 5 different medications, I can't get it under control. I saw a surgeon, not the original surgeon, who is colleague of my original surgeon for a second opinion since my original surgeon got defensive like I was accusing him of messing something up. He gave me a few options and we decided on gastric bypass. I had some pre-op testing done and now I wait for my approval. We went over my UGI and it states no reflux however I explained my reflux isn't as soon as I eat.. It's a half an hour to hours later. He thinks I h…

Help! I had my gastric sleeve surgery September 24. I started at 264 pounds. I was down to 200 pounds at the beginning of February then found out I had a cavernous malformation on my brain stem and had to have surgery to remove it. During that time I managed to gain back 20 pounds. Some of that was due to prednisone but some was due to not being in control of my own cooking. Now I cant seem to start losing again. Im definitely eating larger portions than right after my surgery. Any suggestions?

Scale has slowed as if it knows I'm dying to be in the "ones" stuck at 202 and feeling a little demotivated this morning ( personal goal: to be under 200 by The 4th of July) I feel like I really worked the plan and stepped up the exercise this week. Scale was at 208 10 days ago and I'm frustrated as this a cruel "stall" making me linger here just beyond my goal Any advice or encouragement is greatly appreciated friends ????

I'm new at this, and haven't shared my journey with most people to date. I've been heavy my while life, things got out of control in the last few years. Moved from by Toronto Canada last year, to the Seattle area, know no one outside of who I came with. I had a rny done last year, 10 months ago, down 189 lbs from pre surgery weight, and 251 from my highest weight. This journey is hard to go alone, hoping there are some people I can share it with, that *get* this.

So here I am, almost 8 months out, I have lost about a hundred pounds... Go me, right? I look great, but I don't feel it. I'm starting to wonder if the hair loss will ever stop. Yes I take biotin, I also take magnesium and zinc. I dated for the first time in like 10 years, got my heart broke... But the surprising part is how fragile I am emotionally, and I'm not sure if that is tied to the surgery, weight loss, and all the things that go with it. My last thing is that I'm surprised at how little energy I have. I am getting in all of my protein and staying track on my calories. I am diligent about my vitamins daily, and my blood work is right on track... Anyone else exp…

Hello I just had my bypass on June 12th. Aside from the blood clot and infection I got in my arm that had the IV, I feel great! I do have severe knee arthritis from my additional weight. I have lost 38 pounds since starting my journey, just got off all the weight from the Water they pumped in me so I don't know what I have actually lost since surgery, and I was wondering how long did it take for your knees to start feeling better? Since we can't take any anti-inflammatory meds it's been a little rough. I was 350 and now 312, so hoping it will start to relieve. I have read that for every pound we carry it is 5-7 pounds on ours knees. So I have technically taken abou…
