Hey guys! I am about a month and a half away from surgery and trying to stick to the 12-1500 calorie diet. I've actually lost 12 pounds! The people at my work are constantly bringing food and literally walking it up to me and offering and I've even got some guilt trips for not eating their food. Any tips to help get past the huge urge to want to eat all this bad stuff!! I am trying to stay motivated but it's very hard.

Just got on Craigslist and gave away my first wave of clothes which were too big now -- several coats, lots of T-shirts, blazers, etc. Two trash bags full of clothes I will never wear again. Felt great, and the bigger guy than me really appreciated the clothes. Wahoo!

Okay, some of these shakes are too frothy for me. I can't stand drinking that foam. I really don't like any foam. Yuck! But I can tolerate SOME. Can any of you please give me some insight into what kind of blender I should buy. The one I have is not cutting it and shaker/blender bottles also makes them way to frothy. Please, anyone, help!!

Hi Everyone My name is Shannon I am from Philadelphia, PA . I have had my lap band removed because of severe GERD. I am 5ft 4in my weight is 208 pounds my doctor thinks I should get gastric bypass. I just had a endo bravo percedure that revealed my esophagus has a lot of damage from heartburn. I am really afraid of losing to much weight with bypass. I asked my doctor if I could get the gastric sleeve. He said it will make my heartburn worse. I don't want to lose to much weight and look sick.

Hello all, I am really at a loss. I have been drinking Protein drinks, tons of Water and eating yogurt. I don't know what to make when it's just for me. It's easier to cook for a larger group than just one very small meal. My family makes meals that include lots of Pasta, rice dishes and non-protein items. When I can't find what I need to eat, I snack small amounts. I need to make an individual shopping list but I need ideas to help me move forward. I am questioning myself on how I am going to do this for the rest of my life. Ideas? Thanks

If anyone is having trouble consuming their Protein goals per day, this is the only route I have found that works for me. *I will tell you it is slightly more expensive* overall but again if your unable to take in enough via a shake, this is like drinking a fruit Water. I am doing this for the next week so that I can reach my goals. 60g of protein is difficult just by drinking shakes all day long at this stage, next week I advance to Stage 4 (soft, moist proteins)! Once I reach the next stage I can surely drink one Protein Shake and one Carnation instant Breakfast to make up a bulk of protein and supplement the rest thru the day. Whew after all that, here's wha…

Greetings from Thailand. I had my surgery 2 weeks ago and all was well. 40 ml liquids on day 1 - no issues, 200 ml from day 2 onwards no issues. But since last evening even small sips of any liquid chokes me and finally after 10 minutes or so comes out with a lot of frothy saliva. I feel week and dehydrated and scared to drink even a sip of Water. Lot of burping too. Any idea what could be wrong ? Please help.

I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes about ten years after I think it actually started. Prior to surgery, I was on four diabetes meds and blood sugars kept rising. Finally, saw an endocrinologist who put me on slow acting insulin. This got my blood sugars down, but of course is hard on the system. After bypass surgery, went home on no meds at all. This was great, but almost every day since surgery (almost three weeks) my waking blood sugars are rising. Have made an appointment with my Dr. but wanted to know if this has been true for any other diabetics who have had by-pass. I am hoping to avoid long term meds and hope that losing weight will help. Thanks!

I can't believe how much my body has changed in just 22 month's!!!!! I just can't believe it. It has been a tough road. But I would do it again in a heartbeat!!!!! I am still having a problem with food but I am working on that. With the great support I get from this group and my husband, my children and my therapist. I will over come this eating disorder too. I finally see the skinny me. I just found her about 2 weeks ago. I even had a tummy tuck on 3\20\15. I am recovering from that now. My new belly looks amazing! I am finally doing the happy dance, lol. I need to get some muscle back. I just got the OK to start to slowly work out again, can't wait. Hol…

I was hoping to see if there are others who had surgery this day to see how everyone is doing and where we all are at in our healing process. I had a great recovery while at the hospital, came home and had a rough few days being home. Now I am better than ever. I feel phenomenal. I love that. My close family and best friends can already notice a difference. It helps me mentally to do go harder and longer the next day for my walks. Can't begin the gym till this Thursday. Surgery day: 228 lbs This Morning: 205 lbs I'm so thankful for this journey.

So I had the gastric bypass 10 years ago and it was a success. But two babies and health issues later I had gained about 80 pounds back. February 21st I had to have surgery again (basically a revision but due to disease they had to actually remove a foot and a half of my small intestine and about 70% of my stomach out of my body) I've was 270 the day of surgery. I'm at 243 and have been here for the last month. I exercise, get my protein and water and do everything I'm supposed to. I didn't actually have the surgery to lose weight again; I had to have it because of being in and out of the hospital for internal bleeding and ulcers. But since I did have to have it I'm getti…

I was hoping to create a topic for exercising. Routines, specific exercises, durations, reps, running/jogging... Back exercises, arms, legs, thighs and so on... I my whole life never cared too much for exercise, which is in part why I ended up having GB. I am seeing my Surgeon this week and am confident they'll allow me to increase my activity level. I frequently use pinterest to look up new ideas but would love to hear from those who are physically active, what has helped you so far post op or even preoperatively in preparing yourself for after surgery. Hope to hear from you all!

I am 11 months out from gastric bypass and have lost 65 pounds total. I am needing to lose another 20-30 pounds. I have been stuck at my current weight for well over 3 months. It just won't come off. Any tips? Am I not getting enough Protein? Too many carbs maybe? I do not feel I over eat at any one setting. I eat small portions but possibly I am eating too many sugars/carbs throughout the day. Overall, I just don't feel I eat over 1000 calories a day so I can't figure out why I am not losing anymore. Should I switch to 3 Protein shakes a day and only one meal? Or try to get 3 shakes in regardless of what I eat? Some have said I am not getting enough protein. …

Hello all, I'm taking the plunge and writing on here for the first time. It's been a great support already. I am booked in for a gastric bypass RNY on Saturday 25th April and nerves and excitement have kicked in. I'm a mother to a young child so that is playing a huge part in the nerves. I'm excited to be a healthier parent though. Currently at 265lb with a BMI of 47. Really unsure of what I'm expecting to lose, and although I have done the research I still feel unsure of what to expect following the surgery. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Any surgery buddies out there? Thank you. Phew I feel better for writing that down! X

I use fitness pal to track my daily food intake. Is there anywhere that I can find out approximately how much fat, sodium, etc. that I should be getting and/or the maximum amount? I'm trying to get my diet on track. I'm either not eating enough or ending up with what I'm assuming is too much fat, sodium, etc.

Had RNY on 2/10/2015 and have lost 57 lbs, and was doing good until about three weeks ago, when eating any kind of solid food, it seemed like it just wouldn't go down, lot of burping, hiccuping, reflux (no vomiting--have never vomited, have gotten queasy a few times). Dr. thought it was a stricture, so I had an endoscopy this morning, and sure enough had a very narrow opening, and they widened it with a balloon. Had no pain (was out for procedure) and went home, and was doing liquid Protein, but they said I could have soft foods for a few days, then go back to normal eating. I just tried 1/4 cup of refried Beans...and got the problem all over again--would it have close…

Hi Everyone! I am in the process of losing a total of 55 (well, actually 56) pounds before my surgery. I'm on a liquid diet that I did really well with in the beginning, but the last month and a half I have been struggling. I am in month four of my 6 month insurance required wait, and I've lost 31 pounds with 25 more to go. I've done everything else I've needed to do, I just have to lose this weight before my surgeon will set a date. I had 23 pounds left to go, but I gained 1.4 over the last five weeks. I'm so glad it wasn't so much, I was thinking it was more like ten pounds and I felt very discouraged. This week I've been working to stay on plan, and doing well…

My surgery was April 21. Overall, doing quite well. Due to my height and bone mass (size 8 1/4 head, size 18 feet!) my pouch is larger than normal. Started out at 422#, dropping inches fast now. Just walking and get to return in swimming in two weeks. Now on mushy foods, trying something new each day. Chewing is a challenge due to a history of shoveling food fast. About me: A retired shrink, age 64, live in rural Colorado. Fat since I was 3 years old, but had a great career. The increasing diabetes and fear of what would happen brought me to surgery, as well as potential mobility problems. Took me a year plus to get approval from insurance, it was a long wait and surge…

I'm 5 weeks post op. I look at food and can't eat anything. I'm getting about half of my protein and fluids but feel to full to drink more. Currently my source of protein is liquid premiere protein. I tried an egg today and ate about 1/8 of it. I go back to work tomorrow and don't see how I can do it as weak as I am. I long for the days of spaghetti or pizza. Will that ever happen again?

I have the worst time with getting in my fluids. I can down my premeir protein shakes like there's nothing to it. I can finish off an 11oz shake in 10 minutes or less. The problem is water. It HURTS! I can feel it go down all the way. The best way I can describe the feeling is it feels like pouring water into a plastic cup with a tiny hole in the bottom. It all just stops and then I feel it slowly drain into my stomach and I don't understand why. Water is the only thing that does this to me. Why doesn't the protein? I'm dehydrated and I need my water but I dread drinking it helppp. Anyone else have this problen?

Hi everyone, I am a month out from surgery and am finding that I'm having a ton of trouble getting my vitamins in. Just the thought of them makes me super nauseous. I know I need to be taking them but I'm trying to figure out a way to get them all in without throwing up. Any ideas? Thank you!

I am so freaking excited I finally got the pre auth approved to have my consultation with my surgeon. You read that right I had to get pre auth just to get the consultation. My insurance company Meritus covers my surgery. However, they have no in network bariatric surgeons. How that happens I have no clue. So just to get my consultation I had to get a referral and pre auth. I was ready to just start putting money together to go to Mexico which I REALLY DID NOT WANT TO DO. I have been trying to get auth to get the ball rolling since March. My doctors office told me that they would deny it and they had never had anyone get approved to get the consult. I told the insur…

Come on guys, I was doing way better than this BEFORE my surgery! And I only had IV fluids @80ml hour for 12 hours so I'm not in fluid overload. I'm only drinking clear liquids, my bowels are moving fine now, I'm off the pain meds except Tylenol. As an RN I can't think of a rational medical reason for this! I am walking, not sedentary I've given the starvation mode theory some thought but lost like a boss on the pre op liquids!

Just realized that I cannot begin soft moist proteins until May 13th... This whole time since before and immediately following surgery I understood it was 2 wks liquid and then switched over to gradually eating foods again... I was crossing the days off on my calendar. Feeling bummed. I'm already down 23 lbs... I wish I could switch over.

My bypass surgery was performed at Mayo Hospital where I live in Jacksonville, Florida, April 21st and I came home April 22nd. Just curious what daily parameters you were told to stay within. How many calories, Protein, carbs, fats and sugars? We were told 400-600 calories, at least 60 grams of protein and low fat and low sugar liquids/foods. Here's what my days 3-11 have averaged so far: Calories 458, Protein 62, Carbs 25 g, Fats 14 g and Sugars 9 g. I'm feeling amazing

Well I am really feeling down and out. I am very stressed that my weight has completely stopped (and maybe gained). I have been fighting sugar and sweets. I try my best to stay away from most but when I do have a taste of something (cupcake icing) I feel like crap but then I do it again, and feel like crap all over. In addition, I am at a loss of what to eat. Everything I used to eat is on the prohibited list. I think that's why I snack on stuff I shouldn't (no Protein value). I just need something in my stomach. Every place I look I find foods that I can't eat b/c they have too much sugar, fat and or carbs are too high or it really will do nothing for me nutritionally…
