March 12, 201412 yr I just had my surgery on the 10th and I feel so full under my ribs when I drink, is this normal or gas? I hope we March peeps and other veterans can support each other. This app is a Godsend!
March 12, 201412 yr Yes I feel this way to sometimes. I get up and walk and most of the time it's gas. Edited March 12, 201412 yr by danagadd
March 12, 201412 yr I think it's normal. My first few days I felt some cramping when I drank water. I'm at day 8 now and it's better.
March 13, 201412 yr I was March 6 too. Frustrated at how slow the recovery is. I have two small children and a husband who deployed with only 8 days notice while I was still in the hospital. How many more days til I can bend over? UGH
March 13, 201412 yr Author Yes, this cramping is annoying. I keep getting a sharp cramp in my left rib. I'm hoping to go back to work next week.
March 13, 201412 yr So something kind of amazing happened today. I asked for 4 weeks off work. My doctors office said start with 4, and we could ask for more if I needed it. MetLife is notorious for only approving 4 weeks for this surgery, and I had no intentions of taking more. Well apparently when MetLife called my doctors office, the doctors office said up to 6 weeks and told them I could go back after my 6 week follow up. MetLife called me today with an approval for the full 6 weeks! I know I probably don't need it, but I'm thrilled to have it. My husband and I work opposite shifts so I do not see him at all M-F so it's going to be great. I'm feeling very blessed today. Hope those of you recovering or preparing for your surgery are doing well.
March 13, 201412 yr I had my surgery on the 4th and I'm feeling pretty good. Pain free for the most part now. But I am soo tired. Anyone else having this same feeling?
March 13, 201412 yr I had my surgery this morning. I'm doing okay but I've got pain a little bit under my breasts and a lot of nausea. Does this sound normal? My nurse said it was, but I'd like a little reassurance.
March 13, 201412 yr I had my surgery on March 10. I'm so sore and very tired. I'm able to stay awake for a few hours before I need a nap. Drinking is hard for me. I want to drink things with Protein, but they taste terrible. I like drinking Water, but I get cramps and gas when I drink. They recommend by day 3 post op I drink 6 oz per hour. This seems like a lot. Tomorrow I have to drink 8 oz per hour. Any suggestions?
March 14, 201412 yr As far as the gas goes it does go away. The more you move the more you should start passing. Also drink your fluids. It will help as well. My gas went away about a week after surgery. And as far as the liquids go sip 8oz over an hr. trust me it can be done. The hospital gave me medicine cups to drink out of at first but after I got home I felt it was a pain so i just measured and drank out of a normal cup. I was fortunate to not have any nausea so everything is staying down for me. I'm still on the clear liquid phase for 6 more days then I can start eating pureed foods.
March 14, 201412 yr Well, I'm one day post op! I was out of surgery yesterday by 11am and I was feeling pretty good, just sore. Last night up until this morning however, I had extremely bad nausea, dry heaves and a lot of gas pain. I pretty much got no sleep. I should be going home this afternoon.
March 14, 201412 yr I'm at day 10 and still struggling with getting enough water in. I will say it helps to always have a bottle with in arms reach. I have a couple in my living room, one in my purse, and one by my bed.

March 14, 201412 yr Day 7 post op got to eat some tators today went well! I mixed them with chicken broth to give them some flavor. Edited March 14, 201412 yr by danagadd
March 15, 201412 yr I'm two days out and I still have major gas and I'm constipated. I drank some laxative prescribed by my doctor a couple hours ago but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I've been up walking around every two hours or so. I'm trying to get my fluid in but I can't tell if my pain is from drinking too much or just gas pain. It's driving me nuts. I wish it would go away.
