Hi everyone my name is Kacy! I started the gastric bypass process back in April and my RnY surgery date is set for September 30th! When I started my program I was 257 pounds, today at my pre op class I weighed 243 (14 pound loss). I start a two week liquid diet next Monday and I really want to be at 235 by my surgery date. Is that a reasonable goal to get to before surgery??? The reason I picked 235 is because my long term goal is 135 and that will mean I have exactly 100 pounds to lose after surgery. How much do people lose on a two week liquid diet? Am I aiming to high???

Technically, it's scale related, but it's huge for me. I'm no longer over the weight limit for the scale we've had in our house for years!! I had to buy a scale with a larger weight capacity a few years ago, I feel like tossing that one out of the window today!!! (But can't, my hubby still needs it!!!)

Hey was just thinking about post op options to add in fresh veggies and fruits. Anyone try juicing or blending in veggies such as a green protein shake ? I wonder since it is blended so well from the juicing process into a pureed form, when would this be allowed in which stage? Anyone try this?

Hi I'm Tiffany I mostly read these posts and never really publish but I'm worried and need some input. I am four months post on from the rny. I have lost 66lbs from surgery and here over the past three to four weeks I lose 5-6 pounds and stop losing for about a week or more. I do think know if this is considered small stalls or what the issue is but I do my protein and I feel as if I get adequate amounts of food too keep the weight loss consistent. Am I done losing weight? I'm not ready to be done. I wanna be under 200 and I'm scared I'm not going to get to that point! What's going on? Any reassurance or advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you

I am five weeks post-op and I have been craving anything fresh, especially fruits and veggies. Even with protein, I want fresh protein like organic chicken or something healthy like quinoa with raw nuts and veg or fruit. My taste buds really seem to have turned on anything processed. Anyone experience this?

Hello All, I had RNY July 2014. By February of 2015, I had lost 70 pounds. Since February, I have only lost 26 pounds, and in the last 7 weeks, I haven't lost anything. According to my surgeon, I should lose another 30 pounds by the end of the year, but with the way I have completely stalled out, I don't see that happening (I saw him at the end of August, and between April and August (my last follow up with him) I had only lost 6 pounds). What can I do to break through this plateau? Anyone ever have this happen to them? I appreciate any words of wisdom you can offer! Thanks!

So I have posted here a few times regarding my frustrations of not loosing to much weight after surgery. Some have said I am expecting to much and others have told me that they relate to my frustration. I appreciate every reply and it does make me feel better sharing my story. With that being said I just came back from my 3 week post op appointment and my doctor was slightly concern as to why my weight loss is going slower then usual. I lost 11 pounds during my pre surgery diet and have lost 17 pounds in three weeks. She agreed 17 pounds in three weeks is ok but it slower than usual for her bypass patient. However, if I add the weight that I lost before the surgery th…

I'm now on soft/ puréed foods. I've been feeling great. Down 25.5 lbs. This morning I was throwing some breakfast together and getting the hubs ready to leave on the truck. Took several bites of scrambled egg pretty quick and gulped two big gulps of water. Oops. I was hurrying around and just wasn't thinking. That was almost an hour ago and I'm still sick. Not a good feeling. First time I've done that, and will be the last. (I hope) Just a word of advice to those that are not yet on soft foods, listen to what they tell you!!

Hi everyone, I am fairly new here and should complete my requirements within the next two months for surgery. I want gastric bypass for several reasons, most of which is the fact that four of my friends had it years ago and are still doing great. I also work well with “aversion therapy” – if any type of unhealthy “junk” food will give me dumping syndrome, I will stay away from it a long time. My mom has GERD, and my father had it as well. Genetically I am concerned about it. I attended a nutrition class last week with ten people, and we went around the room to state our name and the type of surgery we were having. The other nine said they have been cleared for the …

I have one week left before starting my liver shrinking diet. Did any of you just eat everything you wanted that week or did you continue to watch what you ate? My doctor wants me to loose 5-10 pounds before surgery and I know the 2 weeks before surgery I will do that.

Today I found a new protein source for myself because I'm getting so tired of shakes all the time. It's a protein water called Protein-2-0 and I found it at the grocery store. Tastes much better than shakes and easier to drink.

Good afternoon all! First I want to commend the bravery of all you for going through with surgery, openly discussing your journey and being supportive of others. I have been around, lurking mostly, for a few months. I was denied in January and thought for sure, that was the end of that. Low and behold, I was wrong and am scheduled for surgery on Wednesday the 9th of September. Yay! While I feel ultimately thankful for a new chapter in life, I can't help but feel nervous, anxious and am having inner dialogue that suggest I should back-out. Is that normal? Is it a sign that I should wait? I just don't know. I love my Surgeon. He is awesome, super awesome and I know I …

Hello all! I'm now two weeks and two days past my RNY, and I'm happy to say I have had virtually no issues or complications. However, yesterday I went to my sister's senior year meet and greet at school. We walked around for about an hour and a half, and I had rests in between. I felt fine until the end of the 1.5 hours, when I suddenly felt cold and clammy to the touch, but also like I was very hot, and my boyfriend was concerned because I was getting very white but my cheeks and chest were getting red. After just a minute or two of this I started feeling faint. I drank a bit of Water and sat down, but it wasn't until I sat for several more minutes and had some mor…

Im not exactly sure where to post this question since its kind of an in-between topic, so I apologize in advance if you see this in two locations…. For all those people who originally had the sleeve and were converted to the bypass, I was curious to know WHY? What was your journey? For those who had to have this done do to gastritis, what was done for that before they jumped to conversion? Did anyone have to have this done because of stomach spasms?

So i'm 17 days post op....my husband and I used to go out to eat socially with friends. I would also meet girlfriends for meals. That's definitely been a void so far. We did Go out to eat last eve....and I had 1/4 cup chili and some applesauce. I cried a little, just because it was so different. My hubs is super supportive and comforted me. Did any of you find going out to eat hard? Any strategies? Will this get easier?

After years of research and finally making up my mind to make the choice to improve my quality of life. I am starting to feel this will NEVER happen..and I am bombed about it. I have been waiting for this surgery for years now. I did my research and decided on which I wanted and I made up my mind do have gastric bypass. At the time the insurance I had did not cover bariatric surgery. I swicted jobs a few years later and FINALLY the ins co I had would cover... I made up my mind to have surgery! I called my insurance company to see what was necessary I was told that my plan did NOT require the supervised weight loss. My surgeon's office was told them same thing. In January…

Dr. B. Zanini of the University and Spedali Civili of Brescia, Italy reported the ability of people who said they had non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) to detect the presence of the gluten Protein in their food. The experiment involved 35 people (31 women) who had been on gluten-free diets for 6 months. None had celiac disease, as determined by blood tests. http://acsh.org/2015/09/gluten-sensitivity-real-thing-or-nocebo/ Dr. Ruth Kava, Senior Nutrition Fellow at the American Council on Science and Health, commented, “This study and others like it support the validity of a NCGS diagnosis in some people. But it is also likely that for many avoidance of gluten is jus…

I've done the 5 months of monitored weight loss. I'm having doubts. My acid reflux has gotten so bad I now have to take omeprazole everyday because apparently everything I eat now gives me heartburn. I'm doubting my surgeon, the type of surgery I originally picked, the hospital and this whole thing. The surgeon hasn't followed up with me at all. I've seen him once since my first meeting. Are they supposed to follow up? The sleeve makes acid reflux worse, I'm teetering with the idea of bypass but not sure my surgeon will agree to do it. The other surgeon in the practice that I originally met with does bypass but he is seemed so impersonable and quick to pass me to a…

Well I had RNY June 12th. Down 80 total and feeling not too bad. I went to my first family gathering and was disappointed in the old feelings and habits. I think I did ok but I don't feel I did. I snacked on peanuts and pea crisps. Then had dinner. I didn't eat passed fullness but feel I ate more then I would have had it been a normal day. I'm in a funk. Not sure if it's PMS, my depo provera shot is due, or what. I have gained 2 pounds, assuming water from the depo due date. My thoughts of food are back and I'm fighting them everyday. I am scared I can't do this and don't want to fight all the time. It's only been 3 months. Please tell me my efforts of fighting…

So I'm about halfway through the preop process for RNY and starting to hit my "oh god what am I getting myself into" phase. As a 26 year old who has no health issues besides a high bmi and some mild reflux, I'm absolutely terrified that I'm going to trade my relative health for a lifetime of surgery-related deficiencies and complications. If I life to an average life expectancy of 78 years, that's 52 more years I'd be living with malabsorption and the potential consequences of that are really terrifying to me. I can't find ANY research that looks at outcomes beyond 15 years; I'd only be 43! But at the same time, I'd love to lose the weight now BEFORE I end up with ot…

I am a 6’1” male that started this year at 312 lbs. After my January seminar I made up my mind to make this weight loss attempt work this time. I signed up for the RNY and will be getting my surgery August 21st. Now to my question, I have lost 45 lbs to this point and only have 60 to 65 more to lose. After getting my surgery is it possible to lose this small amount without getting too thin? I don’t want to get under 200! BUT I know if I don’t have the surgery this will be one more of my yo yo diets. I need the tool/incentive to make this be my last diet. Albeit it will be life long. For you experts… Now a silly question: I love jalapenos. I eat about a quart of sli…

And some days a baby carrot sends me into a food coma. Btw, I'm not looking for solutions; I've already spoken to my doctor about it. The days that I'm hungry coincide with the days I run or have PT sessions. Her solution: eat when i'm hungry, Protein first, stay hydrated. Simple. Same rules as usual. ...But can I get an amen, saints? Anybody else just beastly some days, and a field mouse on others? If this is you, join the fellowship LOL I swear, some days I feel like a lion ready to take down an elephant and devour all 6000 lbs of it in one sitting. Fact is, my body still won't let me get down more than about 1/2-3/4cup of anything depending on what it is. Som…

The scale stopped at 201 lbs for about 8 days as if to purposely tease me Then 2 weeks ago I fell below 200 into the ONES - I almost cried and I wanted to email a picture of he scale to my surgeon and thank him. Moving steadily this two weeks and I am now in the 180's Started Bootcamp last week and that has taken the workout up about ten notches burning 7-8 hundred calories in an hour. Is it weird that I just want to hug my surgeon and tell him " thank you! Thank you for giving me a fighting chance to get my life back " Feeling blessed and very happy It's all up to me now

I am exactly 6 months out from surgery (RNY). My weight loss until recently has moved along at comfortable glacial place LOL, like 1-3 pounds per week (If I was lucky) and there many weeks when I didn't loose at all. I did not feel much restriction either. I could eat an entire plate of food, no problem. My friend who had had the surgery 3-4 years ago said just wait, the weight loss is coming. I was expecting the 1st 6 months to be fast, but now I'm in a rapid weight loss pattern. I lost 6 pounds last week and 7.5 this week. Anyone experience more rapid weight loss after the 6 month mark?

I am far from giving up. I am now 4 1/2 months out. I've lost 95 lbs and I feel great! I just think my body needs some time, but so close to 100 lbs?! Only 30 lbs to Onderland!!

Came across this article on FB today. It was exactly what I needed to see. I've gotten comfortable with the fact that I can still indulge in small amounts and not see any weight gain or experience dumping. Well, that's NOT a good thing for someone like me, because it will simply continue and then eventually I will see regain. I don't want to waste all the hard work I have put in and everything I've endured to take my health back into my own hands. Having said that, some parts of this surgery might strike chords. Please remember that I didn't write it LOL so don't attack me if something makes you feel some type of way, especially that last header/paragraph. That's a…
