  1. Started by Neutz,

Almost finished with 2 week pre-op clear liquids/protein diet and feel terrible - jittery, dizzy, fatigued, brain fog. Getting 90oz (or more) water & 90 grams protein (4 Premier Protein) - around 650 calories - plus Barriatic Advantage PRE-OP vitamin. Surgery on Monday - scared that this will be my life after surgery, too. Lost 10lbs last 2 weeks and 50lbs since starting journey (315 to 265) but this is awful!

Monday was 5 months post-op for me and I hit a personal goal of 75 lbs. lost. It was time to take a few pics, so I thought I'd share them here. My tight size 3X is now quite large on me. My son suggested I hold one side of it out to show just how big. The black outfit is a size "L". Been fighting this obesity battle for 30+ years. Still have a ways to go but feeling so much better in my almost 54 year old body! BEST decision I ever made

On Friday I begin my two week liquid phase before my surgery on the 12th of October. Anyone on my fitness pal and want to be friends? I could use all the support I can get! My MFP name is Astrosfan82

  6. I feel like I should be celebrating, it's my second to last clearance. It took 4 hours but it's finished and I probably did fine. But the very nice psychologist. She asked me the dreaded question: Why can't you just lose weight without surgery? I didn't know how to answer her. I babbled something and we moved on but now I'm finally getting second thoughts. WHY can't I do this alone? What's wrong with me? And I'm so close too. Just a few more PCP visits and it'll go to insurance. I'm scared and upset all over again.

My bypass is in 2 days on 9/23, and today I feel like I might be coming down with the virus my kids had last week. Just a mild scratchiness in my throat so far, but I'm worried. Does anyone know if they would cancel surgery if someone has a cold??

I am 3 months post bypass and 80 pounds down but have no appetite what so ever. The mere thought of putting food in my mouth makes me sick. Forget about protein shakes. Gag city. Any one else experiencing this? Has anyone overcome this situation? Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

ok, so I had my gastric bypass on May 29, 2015. on the day of surgery I weighed 220 s. down from 235 for my pre op diet. since then I have only lost 20 pounds, I am really getting very frustrated since I know people who have lost much more weight by this time...... anybody going through the same thing? I am following my diet to the tee and measure my food......HELP!!!!

Okay was the first day I actually drove and have been off pain meds. I took my neice and My daughter to park. I am feeling great. Although when I bought the kids lunch I wanted so badly to eat a French fry. I am finding I am getting burnt out on my shakes already. I only had one today. My surgeon has me on sf Popsicle once a day one sf jello and three shakes.

  11. Started by James Marusek,

I had RNY surgery 28 months ago. Some individuals have surgery and gain some or all of their weight back. I wanted to know why. My nutritionist said this was caused by "grazing" - eating Snacks throughout the day in place of full meals. I ran across some research that seems to back up this hypothesis. The researchers, publishing in Cell Metabolism, created a free app and asked volunteers (from the general population) to snap a photo of everything they ate. The app then records the photo, with a time and date stamp, and sends the data to researchers. The study’s overall goal was to look at the time span between the first meal of the day and final meal, to learn abou…

I hate to complain about such a wonderful problem to have, but I am SO TIRED of nothing fitting properly. Shirts I've worn once are too baggy. All my pants are saggy. And I'm in the nebulous zone between plus size and regular size where everything on one side of the line is too big and everything on the other side is too small. I remember that problem from when I transitioned from regular to plus size about 25 years ago, and I hated it then too. I desperately need to go shopping, but it's so hard to spend the money when I know everything I purchase will only work for such a short time. I don't have the patience to slog through the selection at my local goodwill for use…

Should we (gastric bypass) be consuming? I was never really told. Im averaging 500-700 calories a day, which includes 60 grams of protein and about 50 oz of water. It is the hardest to consume all 64 Oz of water, water actually hurts my stomach. Thank you ; )

I understand eating sugar free everything due to dumping? Is that correct it's solely to prevent dumping? Is this forever?? I'm not even a diabetic and I've stayed away from sugar completly. Just need clarification, it's due to the dumping and this is a forever thing? Same goes for oil, grease and carbs?

  18. hi everyone, I'm new to this site and I'm in the midst of getting everything done for my surgery, however, tomorrow is my psych apt before I see my surgeon next month....I am terrified about this psych apt, I don't have a food addiction, if you tell me I can't have it then I don't eat it, I don't eat secretly I don't stop at fast foods, I just made wrong choices at the wrong time of day is all and was inactive, bad combo....I am already approved for the surgery by my insurance company so I don't want my evaluation from the psychologist to be the sticking stone that eliminates me....or am I worrying for nothing? Thanks for letting me vent.

Holy cow. How long does it take to get past this? I have never been so bone tired in my entire life. I'm 18 days post rny and I haven't the strength of a newborn. More than enough water. 60 grams at least protein. Eating soft foods. Doing everything right. I guess I'm just not used to the weakness. Wow. I just had dinner and we clears the plates from the table. I started to empty the dishwasher and after I put two things into an upper cabinet I was done. Couldn't even lift my arms. Ok. Done whining.

I'm posting this in an effort to help others. Everyone has a different doctor, Bariatric team, etc. so this is in no means the be all, end all way of doing things. I had my surgery at the Mayo hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. My Bariatric team, from my psychologist, nurses, nutritionists and everyone in between couldn't have been nicer, more supportive but most of all informative. I see so many people on here with questions at each stage of the diet. That's why I've decided to post a few pages from the book I was given at Mayo. I'm almost 5 months post-op and have stuck to these very simple guidelines. At 53, I have been full of energy and not once had any nausea…

  27. I'm 3 1/2 months out from surgery. I'm thrilled to have no appetite. It makes everything easier. I have heard that my appetite (the real one and not head hunger) could return as soon. Some folks say that it is gone for 6 months. How long did it take for any of you to have your real appetite resurface?

Hi, I'm Sundie. Hopefully I'm doing this right. I'm scheduled for a revision from the Lapband to the bypass and I am, of course nervous. Especially since I'm self pay!! Gah! I'm just here reading and it's great! Thanks to everyone for sharing! I'm 5'4 and starting out at 307 big ones. I'll be 46 next month. Talk about a pivotal time in my life. Woot!

I've been reading all evening about people who had the bypass who have suffered with depression before surgery, that have been more depressed after the surgery, possibly due to malabsorption. I've had issues with depression most of my life, but currently am managing fairly well. I'm so scared of my depression getting worse after surgery. I'm about ready to cancel my surgery after researching this topic today. I'm currently in a state of panic. Any others dealt with this issue?

Hello! I am almost 3 weeks out and wondering about what I should be eating. I am altering between 1/2 cup to 100grams. But if its puree sometimes I do more. Can I get an idea of how much others are able to eat at this point? Or how much you can comfortable eat where you are now? I'm scared to stretch my pouch! Also how many meals are you eating a day? Thanks!

I was walking this morning, and I was thinking about how to explain my RNY surgery to people who have very little knowledge of it. I have been attending a "Living Lite" program, a weekly meeting where a coach leads us through habits for living a more healthy life. Many of these people are obese, but are really not familiar with bariatric surgery. I am certain as I attend these meetings after my surgery, and my weight drops dramatically, there are going to be questions. So I was thinking about how to explain it to them. I want to ensure they don't think that it is some sort of magic pill that makes you lose weight. There is still real work we have to do in order to l…

Also I'm feeling so nauseated every time I eat I don't want to eat because of that but I force myself I just don't know what to do.

  36. I am a 41 year old mom of 3 boys (and a puppy!) sharing my life with my wonderful husband of over 15 years. I've struggled with weight for most of my life and have tried all the usual weight loss suspects, only to not lose much or quickly gain back any weight I had lost. I only recently "gave up" losing weight, 6 years post my youngest son's day of birth. Out of desperation, I began researching bariatric surgery, something I had never before considered. I made a decision to pursue weight loss surgery and have never thought twice… even when I discovered my insurance would not pay. I am now a self-pay, pre-surgery patient scheduled for 10/8. When did you go back to work after having surgery? I am having laparoscopic bypass surgery and was told different things by different people. One nurse at the clinic told me I would be out for two weeks, another said a few days and my surgeon hasn't really said much about it at all. I work in an office, the most I life is whatever drink I happen to have in my hand and am not required to do anything "physical." I planned to go back the following Monday with surgery being on a Wednesday. Does that seem like it is too soon?

  38. Tomorrow morning I'm meeting with the surgeon then tomorrow I have the esophageal swallow evaluation. So excited for my date. How soon did you see results? I'm so excited but so afraid of not losing weight.

Well, I called a few minutes ago, and I'm going to have my RNY on Monday, August 24th! Holy crap! Now I'm officially freaking out, because I have to get all of my medical clearances done ASAP, and I have to buy my mom a plane ticket so she can come stay with me!

Based on the below information: that came from http://www.bariatricpal.com/page/info/roux-en-y/roux_en_y_gastric_bypass.html Do these specific hormones stay decreased permanently after surgery? or can they increase over time many years later? For those veterans, do you have increased hunger over time years later? 46. Hi all! I wanted to start this thread because I am curious as to how many of you use activity trackers with your exercise and any fitness apps that have helped you in your weight loss journeys. What are your reviews and how do you like them? How have they helped you? I started out many years ago with my first activity tracker before I had been banded. I had bought a FitBit One. It worked remarkably well with the features of tracking miles, sleep, steps, calories burned, time and date, and a growing flower which would grow the more activity you did. I clipped it on my sports bra or my waist of my pants and it was discreet. It was about $100 back then when they first c…

So my surgery is two weeks away from tomorrow. And my question is focused on pain. I would like to know when people felt the most discomfort after surgery (if any at all)? Was it right when they first woke up from the surgery? Once they started trying to take sips? Did the hospital do good at pain management? Was the actual incisions painful or was it more gas? Does walking really help? How long did pain last? I know obviously it's not gonna feel to great. I mean, I am getting stabbed 6 times in the stomach of course it's going to hurt. But what was your experiences postops???
