Are you exercising? I do treadmill daily, and was just told to start core strengthening with resistance bands and a stability exercise ball. I'm not sure if that is helping me lose or not. I think because I weighed a lot more to begin with, we bigger people tend to lose faster, as we have a lot more to lose. Even though I'm down 64 lbs, I still have over 130 to lose to get to goal. I guess I'd ask ....when is the last time you lost 20 lbs in 6 weeks? That's still a lot of weight to lose in that amount of time.

I'd consult your NUT, and make sure you are recording every thing that goes into your mouth food or liquid, no matter what it is. I'd also log all the exercise you are doing, to show your NUT, too. Are you doing a Protein, Calorie, Carb count at the end of the day?

Your weight loss seems a little on the light side. But your starting weight was 235 pounds. Some people start with much higher starting weights.

You meal volume should be minimal. I would look at the calories in the Protein shakes or the fluids that you drink. In my case, as I began to increase my meal volumes, I concentrated on eating high Protein meals, that way I was able to begin to decrease the number of Protein Shakes I consumed each day. When I did this, my calories dropped and my weight loss picked up.

My surgery was May 11 and I have noticed a pattern where I seem to loose regularly (daily) for 1-2 weeks and then I stay at the same weight for a week or so before I start losing again. I was really getting freaked out by the weeks I was not losing until I looked at my recorded weight loss and saw that there was clearly a pattern. It is so difficult not to compare our weight loss to others but it is also important. When I start to get hung up on where I "should" be I loose sight of the daily goals and success I gave had.

James, I am still at a 1/2cup for each meal sometimes less. I don't drink Protein shakes, usually I stay with Water or crystal light. I know I should be happy I have lost what I have....

Cpower, I am noticing that too, I guess I am being impatient, when you see people lose much more it is hard..

I can relate. My surgery was may 1st and I lost 37 lbs the first month and I slowed way down. My doc said it's probably muscle. I do notice inches going. I've dropped 2 sizes since may 1st but probably have only lost 5-10 lbs since beginning of june. Stick in there and don't forget inches! They make a big difference too!

It sounds like you are plateauing. During pre-op I ate a very modest healthy diet and exercised 3-5 times a week, and lost only 10 pounds! However, I was getting smaller and building muscle, and my surgery team said it was all good.

In the 18 days after surgery I have dropped 19 pounds, so it has all paid off. Oh yeah, now I am getting more jiggly!

Scarlet I'm going thru the same thing. My rny was June 30.

I've lost only 24 lbs. it was all lost within the first week. I haven't dropped a single pound since.

I'm so frustrated.

I'm following the rules. Doing what I'm supposed to be doing.

My dr says when I'm able to take in more calories I'll start dropping.

She says it's not uncommon.

Ok. I understand. But I want to scream.

No one tells us that weight loss after surgery is not always fast. It may be slower than the average person on a diet. You may have intermittent weight gain despite sticking with your program. That's how it was for me.

It took 17 months to loose 97lbs. I did everything "right". I exercised to my level of tolerance daily as I've done since my teens. The surgeon called me metabolism challenged while the nutty nutritionist assumed I was a liar. Fortunately my surgeon had been where we are.

Over six years post op I'm maintaining in size 0-4 at shops like GAP & Old Navy. I still struggle with sudden weight gain & metabolic issues but I work my program for life anyway.

You will lose the weight over time. We've been deprived of what some call that honeymoon period when the fat easily melts away. Don't sweat it. Persistence pays off. At under a pound a week on average I still lost it. You can and you will as well.

I was told in order to lose weight I had to up my Protein. The easiest way was to drink more shakes. I used almond milk to keep the calories down. Be patient and keep your carbs low. Sounds like you are on your way! ????

Haven't had my surgery yet but have been reading anything I can find about plateaus. I keep seeing people say they cut out carbs, or most anyway, and increase Protein Drinks to nudge weight loss. Hope it helps. I'll find out before too long as it seems everyone has these stalls.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
