February 2024 Surgery Buddies?

Recommended Posts

After having my surgery cancelled last month due to the abrupt closure of my hospital's bariatric practice, I have a new date at another hospital in the area and can hardly wait for the time to fly by. I'm scheduled for gastric bypass on February 21. Any other February peeps out there?

What does your pre-op diet look like? Mine will be 2 weeks of full liquid, so basically Protein Shakes, Water or sugar free flavored water, Decaf coffee and tea, sugar free Jello and pudding, sugar free popsicles, broth, skim milk, Greek yogurt, unsweetened applesauce, and cream of Tomato Soup. I think she said up to 5 shakes per day but I need to clarify at my final dietician appointment on Feb 1. Not gonna lie, I am not looking forward to this part. My previous clinic only did a 2-day liquid diet. But I can survive!

Surprisingly, my surgeon does not require a pre-op diet! Only restriction is we can't weigh more on surgery day as we did on initial weigh in.

My operation date is February 1, I'm very excited. It took me so long to make the decision and then again it took so long to get the date.

My pre-op-diet seems to be the same as NickelChips.

I just got my surgery date, February 6th! I’m having my 16 year old lab band taken out and I’m doing a bypass. I live in South Florida, you guys going to Mexico or abroad are so brave!

My surgeon said any liquid for my pre op. I imagine it’s different for each patient. It’s going to be a long hard 2 weeks for me.

Interesting. This is the first time I've heard no red dye.

I'm checked into the hotel near the hospital and just had my last protein shake of the day. My mom has kindly gone down to the restaurant alone so as not to make me die from watching her eat dinner. Checking in at the hospital tomorrow at 10:50am. So ready!

Six months pots-op as of yesterday. I celebrated with a HIIT class where I was challenged to do a wall-assisted handstand. I truly thought there's no way in hell that I can get up there. Well... I proved myself wrong. The instructor said, "Just try getting one foot up there." I tried and it was so easy, that the other foot went up, and the next thing that I knew, I was standing on my hands with my legs up in the air, leaning against the wall.
Last weekend I challenged myself to a 10-mile hike, and I was SURE that my legs would be non-functional that night and the next day. But that didn't happen at all.  But I did learn that I need a new hiking boot or shoe. I've got a goal of walking the Portuguese coastal route of the El Camino later this year, and I good shoes will be essential.
I've hit another weight loss stall, but that's to be expected. I am so close to my goal already that if it does take 6 more months to get that last stone off, that's okay with me. And I am building muscle, so that stone may never move. S'alright friends, s'alright.
