I started my pre op classes on the 6th. A lot of valuable information, looking forward to the next 5 weeks. Hopefully I will get approved through my insurance and get a surgery date scheduled for the week before Christmas.

Some people undergo WLS and lose significant weight only to gain some or all of it back years later. I asked my nutricianist "Why". Her response was grazing. Grazing is to eat small portions of food, as appetizers or the like, in place of a full-sized meal or to snack during the course of the day in place of regular meals. A recent study by University of California, Berkeley, may have found a correlation between sleep and body mass index (BMI). Breakfast and breakfast skipping is associated with weight gain.” This study seems to go hand-in-hand with another study. Another recent study found that reducing the eating window (the hours per day that one eats) reduces…

So, I missed my nutrition class that's required for me to get my surgery. I was 15 minutes late, and they wouldn't accept me. Devastated. That's how I feel. My husband is in the military and he was called into work last minute, so I was late because we only have one car. I cried and cried and cried. I have to sign up for another class next month, but the fact that I have to be this way, for another month it's just heart breaking.

Ok.. I'm just 14 days out RNY. All in all, I think I've done, doing very well. I caught a cold they day after I got home and let's just say coughing and sneezing was more than a little rough. I'm tolerating pretty much everything I try to eat. This is my problem and I suspect it's not uncommon, I just want to know WHY? What is it? First sips of Water or any liquid really cause me sick pain in my lower abdomen. It's the kind of gassy cramp I've known my whole life (prior to surgery) as I'm going to have gas or diarrhea pain. You know the kind that gives you a little chill and cramp and makes you think you better find a bathroom? This is NOT the case now. I ha…

I am wondering what unique foods people have found themselves eating after surgery. I had someone offer me okra chips today and I was skeptical to try them but they are actually delicious! What foods are you now eating or have tried that you would not have before surgery?

I am new so please forgive me if this has been answered. Is bypass a better choice for those of us with severe acid reflux? I had an endoscopy a fe months ago and the doctor said he saw mild inflammation but that was it. I've read a bit that the sleeve can worsen reflux but I don't if that's the norm. Any insight on this would be great...I start calling doctors tomorrow! ????

Quick question . I am about six weeks post op now and things have gotten better for me. I am finally over my stall and loosing weight again . Slowly but loosing . However I have come across a new problem that I am worried about . It looks like I am loosing some of my hair . I have pretty thick hair and it is one of the things that people have always complimented me on . Chunks of hair are not falling out but I am shedding . I know this is normal for bariatric patients but I am getting worried . I love my hair !!! My question is , will it get really bad??? Am I going to have bald patches ?? Will it grow back ? Is this a temporary thing? I take my vitamins religiously . Is …

I'm curious to hear how everybody gets all of their vitamins in each day. I have three different ones, Calcium chewable a, multivitamin chewable so and B12 dots. That's a lot to take each day! I take my B12 in the afternoon already, but starting tomorrow I will have to add the multi and calcium multiple times a day.

I'm 8 weeks Post-Op Gastric Bypass... it was a struggle at first. Day 1 of surgery my doctor didn't staple my pouch all and left a quater sized hole, leaving me to bleed and throw up blood every hour on the hour. Day 2 go back under to fix problem. Day 6 released from hospital... don't remeber anything until after 3 weeks of surgey. So much pain, so much hate for what I did to myself. I wanted to end life... Week 5 horrible pain in the upper abdomen, trip to the er, ABSCESS, infection from blood left by the doctor on outside of the pouch. Day 1 drainage surgery, bag stunk so bad! Ugly green color it was horrible. . Day 7 drainage bag removed, released from h…

I start my 2 week pre-op liquid diet tomorrow, and surgery is on 10/8/15. Up until this moment I have been very excited and anxious. But as this day gets later, and evening sets in, I am starting to feel like it's the last night of my regular life as I've known it for 29 years. I'm feeling very emotional, and somewhat anxiety ridden with what's ahead. I am more then ready, been contemplating and researching this for many years. I guess I'm just feeling like my new changed life starts tomorrow morning, and I'm almost mourning my old life. Has anyone else experienced a flood of emotions like this before surgery? I'm also really nervous about how I'll feel the night before a…

So, I'm on my 2week pre-op liquid diet, but my period never exactly came last week! I told them at my pre-op appointment a few days ago, and they didn't say much but they did draw bloods. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. My cycle tends to run late, but this is freaking me out! A friend said it could be stress related. I'm wondering if I should call my OB and get an appointment, or should I just call my surgeon first? Idk what to do?

So sorry for all of my questions and posts. I have not had a PCP for years. I have been going to an urgent care facility for anything that comes up - sinus infections, flu, etc. My insurance (BCBS Fed) requires a letter of reference/referral from my PCP as part of my approval package. I asked today if the urgent care could write such a letter and was told no since they have never treated me for weight loss or obesity. My bariatric counselor referred me to a PCP that takes my insurance and she said they refer a lot of people there. I have an appointment on Friday to get my blood work and EKG completed, and I have my medical records from the urgent care. Do I wait for …

Well I'm officially Post op! I had my surgery October 1 and last night was my first night home. It was a nightmare! I'm used to sleeping on my stomach and turning frequently ... Well at some point I must have turned and I couldn't get up because the pain was so bad. I literally thought I was going to have to call rescue to get me out of bed.... Has anyone ever tried to get up from bed without using their core?!? It's virtually impossible. Finally after an hour of panic pain and tiny shifts I got to a better position .... When I woke up this morning .... Again it took me 20-30 minutes to figure out the least painful way to get out of bed. Needless to say I will be sleeping…

My therapist said something to me recently that was a bit of an ah ha moment for me and that I cannot get out of my head so I thought I would pass it along in case it was helpful to anyone else. I said to her that pre-op I hated leftovers, but that thankfully I have really gotten used to them since you kind of have to have leftovers when you are eating such small portions. To which she said "Well of course you hated leftovers. food was your entertainment and who would want to watch the same movie 2 nights in a row." I don't know why this one thing hit me like it did, but man, I have repeated that over and over so many times - every time I want to reach for somethin…

Hello all! I am almost a year post op & have reached my weight goal having lost over 70 lbs. After meals, I get extremely sleepy & lethargic, sometimes to the point of needing to lie down for a while. Anyone else have this & if so, what's causing it & what to do about it. Thanks for your replies!

Realistically how much time should I take off from work after surgery? My Dr says only one week but that doesn't seem like enough time to recoup and adjust. I've been reading a lot about fatigue and vomiting for weeks after surgery. I'm a dental hygienist and I can't excuse myself in the middle of an appt because I suddenly get sick. In your experience how much time is needed after surgery?

So I just joined FitnessPal.com. One of my friends recommended it in order to help me get out of my stall. She told me that maybe I am not getting enough protein and this app will tell me exactly how much protein I am getting. Anyways I notice that a lot of people here have joined FitnessPal so I had a question. Does the app give predictions on how much weight u will loose following your food plan? Or do I have to upgrade to premium for that? I use to do food diary.com a few years ago and what I liked about that website is that it would give me a prediction on how much weight I would loose after a certain amount of time. Also is there anyway that I can change the rec…

Hello! New to this site on the gastric bypass side anyway... I was a previous member before and during the golden days of the lapband. The golden days are over, I am so ready to get the band out... It seems there were different stages of life with the band in the past few years, that I thought were bad and seemed to get more uncomfortable. The more horror stories I hear the more I realize this thing is crap and should be taken off the market. I started the process to get band removed and revised to bypass in Oct 2013, Met all the requirements and wasn't approved by psych, did therapy and it helped, then as a military family we moved and had to start the process al…

So I just got my approval from the insurance company, and I my surgery is scheduled for Sept. 11. I know, not a very auspicious day, but it is going to become the first day of my new life. I am so nervous. I have been looking forward to this for over eight months, when I decided I really wanted this surgery, and now it is here I can hardly believe it. Getting the date made it really real for me. I know I am doing the right thing, and I am excited about it (especially after seeing all of the people here who have been so glad they did it), but it is still scary. I just know it is going to get even more so as the date gets closer. Any encouragement appreciated! An…

So I went to see my surgeon today for my two week visit and he gave me the OK for solid foods. He said I look great and I'm tolerating foods awesome. He told me I can pretty much eat anything besides red meat bread rice pasta all the stuff I wasn't planning on eating anyway. Is this to soon? I'm happy because I can finally chew but A tad bit apprehensive.

Hi everyone. This is my first post here and i just have a question. Well first of all i am scheduled for gastric bypass surgery on 10/28/15. I havent received my approval yet, my packet was sent to them today. I have staywell medicaid of florida. I was told by the coordinator on the phone at my surgeons office that they are in the middle of "negotiations" with staywell and she might have a hard time getting my approval. Has anyone gone through this or heard anything about this? I have been anxiously awaiting my surgery date for almost a year and it would be my luck that this happens now!

Hi, I finally made an account for myself after doing research. I'm only a few months in after deciding to have bariatric surgery and I've only done the sleep test. I'm 23 and I'm bascially doing this whole thing by myself and I'm struggling finacially. My fiance, his mother, and my best friend are the only ones who are supporting me through this. My parents said they don't want me to get it and are making it clear that I have to do this myself. I'm using our insurance but the co-pays are killing me. I had to make a $200 payment for the first consultion and I had to pay $500 for the first sleep study. Is anybody else going through something like this? Anybody have ideas t…

So my surgery is next Wednesday and I was wondering how long it took people to wake up from the anesthesia??? And from the time they woke up, how long did they wait to get you up and walking? I have a strange reason for asking. During the process I made a really close friend. She's having her surgery the day before me. They told us we get discharged the day after surgery (1 night stay) sometime in the afternoon. So if she's planning on going home sometime in the afternoon and my surgery is at 7am, do you think there's a chance her and I could get to walk together before she's discharged? Or will I still be out by the afternoon from my surgery?

Did any of you have gallbladder sludge, but no stones, in your pre-op ultrasound? And if so, did you surgeon remove/suggest removing your gallbladder during the wls? My ultrasound report says 'mild billiary sludge,' and I know my center will take your gallbladder during surgery if you already have stones, but I'm not sure for just sludge. Frankly I'd rather have them take it during the bypass, but I don't get to see my surgeon for a while yet to ask him.

My husband has been completely supportive of my decision to have RNY. He has been so supportive that he has been online researching RNY so he can be prepared for the changes that both me and my family will experience… Unfortunately, he has become very worried about the post surgery complications that can occur and I do not know how to calm his fears… I myself am pretty nervous. We are mostly understanding of the usual arguments for and against WLS… he gets that WLS will greatly improve many of my current and future ailments attributed to being obese. The root of his worries lie with the "not uncommon(?)" complications such as ulcers, perforations, leaks, clots, staple-l…

I'm 5 1/2 months post op. I've done great. I have followed the diet and I have seen some great results. Now suddenly it seems like my appetite is gone. 2 bites and I'm not hungry. This has gone on for a few days. I thought maybe I had picked up a bug or something, but I feel fine. I try to eat just no appetite. Anyone else experience this?! Hi, I have not posted in along time.I had R bypass April 2013. I have lost 120. My Doctor would like me to lose about 50 more pounds . I don't think I want to lose,. but 20 maybe 30 pounds. I am slipping back into some old eating habits. During the day I do well I find I can't eat too much, but about 4pm I become famished. I seem to graze. I will eat a little and after a little activity I am hungry all over again I don't know how to stop this. Has anyone had this problem, before surgery I don't think I knew what it felt to be hungry . I am not sure if this is binge eating . Someone share with me . I sure don't want to start gaining weight.

I've never been so miserable and depressed. It's been two months since bypass, and two days ago I had my nonfunctional gallbladder removed. At first, I felt better - the horrible nausea a dry heaving was finally gone. Then last night, dry heaving returned with a vengeance. The thought of food is repellent. Smells make me sick. I wish I'd never had the bypass. I feel like I'm dying slowly now, and I know that seems dramatic, but it's how I feel. I just want it all to stop.
