Insurance company in negotiations?!

Hi everyone. This is my first post here and i just have a question. Well first of all i am scheduled for gastric bypass surgery on 10/28/15. I havent received my approval yet, my packet was sent to them today. I have staywell medicaid of florida. I was told by the coordinator on the phone at my surgeons office that they are in the middle of "negotiations" with staywell and she might have a hard time getting my approval. Has anyone gone through this or heard anything about this? I have been anxiously awaiting my surgery date for almost a year and it would be my luck that this happens now!

Did you previously confirm with your insurance company that they cover bariatric surgery? Did you find out from them what the requirements were to get the bariatric surgery?

Different insurance companies have different requirements for the surgery. That may be one of the things causing the hangup.

Then again, insurance companies don't like shelling out the dough, so it might just be typical bureaucratic nonsense or a stall tactic on their part.

Toasty first congats on your choice on being healthy , I have to agree with the above statement did to check with your insurance company because some of them have different requirements like I had to do a 6 month program I had to do with monthly documentations as well as exercise program that I had to do in order to qualify. Good luck and keep us posted i am shock that your program cordinator dod not look into this before you started your program.

Well when i first saw my surgeon 6 months ago before i started my supervised diet, psych eval, etc. We discussed what my insurance required and what i needed to do. I have completed everything and it has been sent off to my insurance company. I think the issue is that my insurance company is in negotiations at the moment with my surgeons office on whether or not they will continue to accept my insurance. Does the make since? Im not so sure anymore lol. I guess im just venting and hoping i will hear something soon!
