Is it because we are experienced with chew chew chewing with the band? I don't think I ever take a whole 20 minutes to eat. I am 7 weeks post revision from band to bypass, so I'm not eating that much anyway. I can't make 4 oz last 20 minutes.

I'm five days into my pre-op diet, and I am so angry all the time, I can't stand it. I feel hormonal, but I've been post-hysterectomy for several years. I'm short-tempered. The mood swings are awful. My hubby tells me that it will get better after my surgery because I won't get hungry. I'm eating plenty of Protein. I don't know that I'm as hungry as I am just weirdly angry--or I want to cry. The only time I like how I feel is when I'm sleeping. This just seems wrong. Please tell me it changes!!

Had my Rue-n-y in January. At this point I am able to eat and drink pretty normal. However all my hair is falling out. I went from thick hair to now you can see my scalp and actual bald spots. I am taking biotin. What else can I do? Thank everyone in advance.

Does anyone have any suggestions on other ways to get in protein? I have only been able to drink 1 or 2 sips lately. Its a brand and flavor I like. I used to love them, but now they repulse me. I'm two weeks post op. I can eat things like yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, and oatmeal

So, I'm about 7 weeks post-op and came to visit me friend for a week in Eastern Europe. It has been really hard to find things that my stomach is used to and are low in fat and sugar. The portion sizes are much smaller than in the US, but the food can be equally unhealthy (fried cutlets are very common even when the menu doesn't say it's fried). I've also not found any sugar free drink powders or Protein powders that are low in sugar. I commonly eat Greek yogurt at home and rely on it for a decent amount of protein each day... but all of the yogurt here has less than 5g of protein per serving (i couldn't find Greek)... it was very low in sugar. I did find two new t…

Hi everyone! Today is my 35th birthday! I am kinda stoked about it! This year has been an interesting one. Full of challenges and many successes. I am so glad I finally decided to move forward with getting my lap band removed and having the gastric bypass surgery. Recovery was tough and I still struggle with healthy eating, but overall I am doing well. People have noticed I have lost weight. I am finally able to shop in the regular department stores...but for some reason, I struggle with these changes. I still see myself as "Morbidly Obese" and struggle with the physical changes. I spend hours browsing stores for new clothes (I have a new job)...I KNOW I cannot fit m…

Hi, I had the RNY surgery on June 23. I've lost 50lbs since then, but now I seem to be at a standstill. Is this normal, should I worry about it? I haven't lost any weight in over a week so I'm worried now. I do know my appetite is a little weird right now because I've been on antibiotics for a month.

Several headlines in the media recently are attempting to say just that. But is it true? The news reports arose from a study that just appeared in JAMA Surgery Online. The paper was entitled “Self-harm Emergencies After Bariatric Surgery: A Population-Based Cohort Study”. The study is based on two matched cohort groups. The first group (control) consisted of 8,815 people who did not undergo bariatric surgery. The second group consisted of 8,681 people who did have the surgery. The group that underwent the procedure experienced a self-harm emergency rate of 3.63 events per 1000 patient-years. In the group that did not have the operation, that rate was 2.33 — —a 54 …

Hi Everyone! I had my lap band surgery in 2008. Lost about 100 pounds and then had a baby and threw up everyday for 7 years and had it removed August 21st, 2015. I am having the bypass done November 16th or 23rd 2015. I have had esophagrams and endoscopys to see how much damage my esophagus has. It is irritated and a little damaged and my surgeon has me on Carafate for 6 weeks to try to heal it and the one more endoscopy. The Esophagram showed significant acid reflux and a hernia. I am not worried about all that. They can fix the hernia in surgery. I am mostly scared of going through all this and not loosing weight. I am 300 as of now. I got down to 260 with…

I am definitely feeling a bit discouraged right now. I've had the gastric band since January 2011. Since the very beginning, I've had the throwing up/regurgitating. It doesn't matter what I eat, can be chicken, tuna, green Beans, raw veggies, bread, even Water sometimes. I've been compliant and have doctors records. I've had fills and un-fills, I've been on exercise plans, and made good food choices. When I have my band tighter and have any restriction at all, I'm throwing up 2-3+ times per day. My current surgeon (not the one who did the surgery) also said according to the X-ray with the barium swallow, my band is slightly higher than it should be, but not technically "o…

Hi everyone!! I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for ready to drink pre made protein shakes. I have tubs of protein, but there's times I need to grab something quick or I'll hit a drive thru and make a bad choice. I'm 4 years out and 40lbs up in weight. I've got to go back to the basics and make better decisions!! I didn't have this surgery to become a failure and go back! So it's time to nip this in the bud, get serious, and take back my health!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all for your time!!!

My surgeon was starting the process to send everything into my insurance on 9/29/15. My husband & I don't know how to plan anything right now & having 2 young kids it's very hard to not plan. How long did you wait for approval? I live in PA & have MA...not that, that matters.

I went to see my primary Doctor today because I wasn't feeling well. Flu like symptoms and wanted her to listen to my lungs. Anyway, it turned out ok overall but she said she was worried I was still losing so much weight at almost a year out and would be calling my Surgeon to discuss her concern. They are part of the same hospital system and I know she has a right to do that but I feel a little awkward that she would decide to do that. I'm within a healthy BMI, I have my one year f/u next week which I told her about. Am I making too much out of this? Has anyone ever had this happen?

A moment of reflection: Ok, this is for the now trying to get rid of the past negative stuff. Before, co workers friend and family members... Just eat less and exercise... that's all you need to do... have some self control... push yourself away from the table. "WLS is the easy way out." You don't need WLS you just need to stop eating so much. I can't find something pretty to wear so I'll stay home. Have you heard these before? Post op Coping skill from the ever growing box of coping skills: A facet: to help cope with the physical change seen in the mirror. These are things I heard and were said to me too. After having the surgery going through post op issues daily, and…

I've had two c-sections. The recovery from the first one was pretty rough and I wasn't okay even walking up my street until 2+ weeks post-op. I think I cried when they made me walk down the hall in the hospital! My second one had a MUCH easier and faster recovery where I was walking around on day 2 with little discomfort. Can anyone compare the two surgeries as far as pain and recovery? Life after c-section is also insane since there's a new human depending on you for life plus the crazy hormonal swings. ???? I'm sure RNY has its own mental challenges to push through!

I'm 12 days post op and I was wondering when everyone else started going to the gym. Before surgery I use to workout all the time (every other day). I lifted weights and did cardio. So my desire for the gym is through the roof right now. However, I've had a slower recovery and I know that if I went, I probably wouldn't last too long. I have no weight restrictions anymore but I know well enough not to go back and try to squat the 150 pounds I could before surgery. So when did people go back to the gym and what exercises did they start with first? Obviously my surgery and my health come first so I'm willing to wait. My surgeon just said when you feel ready.

Has anyone tried this program through their gym. My gym started this program that customizes your workouts for you each time you go to the gym based on the gym equipment available, your desired results. It is very helpful, if you're like me, and don't know where to start and don't have the money to pay a personal trainer. Here's my printout of my workout that i started today that focused on my chest and legs. Tomorrow my workout will work on my arms and legs.

A new study from the Netherlands gives significant support to the ability of bariatric surgery to eliminate clinical findings of Type 2 diabetes, also known as “adult onset” diabetes. Compared to results from individuals that did not undergo surgery, remission of type 2 diabetes was about 43 times more likely in patients who had gastric bypass, and almost 17 times more likely for patients who had procedures known as sleeve gastrectomies. Remission was about 7 times more likely when patients underwent gastric banding. http://acsh.org/2015/10/weight-loss-surgery-improves-health-of-some-diabetics/

I am 29 months post-op from RNY surgery. I am pleased with the results. I have been in the "Maintenance" phase for around 22 months and my weight has been fairly stable. I have even lost a few pounds in the "Maintenance" phase. It is my belief that the key to keeping the weight off in the "Maintenance" phase is hunger control. Fats are fairly important in this phase because they contain the ability to control hunger. Around a month ago, my wife suggested that I explore essential oils especially the medicinal properties of essential oil. I bought a few books and read them. It was interesting that there were formulas for Appetite Reduction. I ordered some essentia…

I recently had my gastric bypass surgery. And when I say recently, I mean, just a few days ago. Dr. Davis said it went off without a hitch, but I know that while I was coming out of the anesthesia, I had a violent reaction and tried fighting someone. I also had an incredible amount of pain. Evidently, Morphine doesn't do anything for me. I was released from the hospital yesterday (Friday, Sept 25), and haven't been able to stomach much on the full-liquid diet. Prior to surgery, I was on a high protien, low carbohydrate liquid diet with the intent of inducing ketosis. I never went into it, but I lost weight, so my surgeon said it was alright. However, post-op, I've dis…

Yesterday I went to my PCP. She is awesome, I love her and I hope I never, ever, ever have to be without her for my medical needs. She has been a guiding light through my WLS journey. Anyway. Before she even looked at my chart, she took one look at me and said "Oh my goodness girl, you are shrinking!" With tears in my eyes I said "but I haven't lost any weight in the last week, something must be wrong!" After she helped wiped the tears and soothe my insecurities she commented that it appears as if I am losing inches, rather than pounds. Huh? I don't understand and before she could explain we were got off track talking about birth control, migraine medicine, Iron s…

My surgery was Sept 28th so I'm almost at 2 weeks. My husband is driving me crazy because he thinks I should be healed enough to have sex. My surgeon told me that it's up to me of when I feel comfortable to start having sex again. I still hurt and on top of that I do NOT feel sexual at all. I'm so frustrated feeling like he's rushing things and I can feel how annoyed he's getting. He's starting to take his frustration out on me by stomping around and being a jerk. Why can't he understand that I just physically don't feel up to it?
