Hello young lady. Looking good for 60. Congratulations on your surgery day. What made you decide this was the best time to have this surgery done?

Hi. I had my surgery 10/15/12 at age 62. I hope yours goes just as well as mine did. I'm down to 189 as of this morning.

Good Luck to you. You have my prayers.

Best of health and well wishes to you on your upcoming surgery! I am 64 and had a RY on Nov 18th... had so many health issues that are NOW also completey resolved..and the bonus of losing 26 #. The first few weeks were not all that bad..it is a major surgery remember... But I was out and about in a week...just with a bit lower energy level...but it is getting better daily! Take a heating pad to hospital with you...helped alot while the carbon dioxide desipates throughout your body.. and walk the halls as much as possible.. NICE Valentines Day gift to yourself!! Dyan in Ohio

I'm 61. It has been a year since I first began the journey toward having weight loss surgery. In addition to the regular requirements to qualify for surgery, I have had to deal with Uterine Cancer resulting in a complete hysterectomy and then been required to have a colonoscopy ahead of my colonoscopy schedule. I am not sure if my Uterine Cancer would have been had I not been on the WLS path. After the hysterectomy, my surgeon insisted I have the colonoscopy. Guess what? There was a polyp that likely would have turned into cancer. So at this point I am feeling so grateful that they look at every iota of your being before they say okay to the surgery. Finally a year later, I am on the liquid diet. When I go back to check in, they will weigh me and ,hopefully, schedule the surgery. I read in the New York Times that only 50% of the people who start the process make it this far. Im so grateful to be one of them.

Today is my Birthday and I am 61 years old. I'm a lightweight for RNY but my Dr. feels I need it due to health issues including diabetes. It's nice to know that I'm not alone on this journey. I had the band for 5 years and had it removed 5 months ago. I feel a lot of nervousness and anxiety towards RNY. Therefore, I also need to hear such positive posts.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
