After a trip to the ER on March 29th and being diagnosed with a severe bladder infection (a lot of blood in the urine and low abdominal pain), I've spent the last two and a half weeks wondering why, after a week of antibiotics, I was still in pain. It turns out, I never had a bladder infection. I have a very large kidney stone trying to pass with another one still in the kidney.

The Urologist seems to think that this is all being caused by my Gastric Bypass.(I'm 18 weeks out) I did some research and it as it seems there are some studies out that back this up. Has any one else been having problems with kidney stones? Or am I just the lucky one?

I've had a ton on kidney stones before surgery. I'm only 8 days post-op & I'm not looking forward to having anymore kidney stones.

I passed a kidney stone prior to surgery but none after. I am 23 months post-op RNY.

From what I've read the best thing to prevent them is just to drink, drink, drink more Water. Also avoid acidic foods like coffee, citrus and tomatoes in large amounts.

I drink in excess of 80 ounces of water a day, coffee is extremely limited (and decaf), I don't like the taste of citrus post-op and we can't eat tomatoes in our house due to the fact our daughter has a bleeding disorder and tomatoes make her hemorrhage. Sorry, I'm some what frustrated with the fact that I'm still hurting and if the ER doc had thought about the fact I had no symptoms of a bladder infection instead of telling me about all the dire things that the symptoms I had could mean (ex- bladder cancer), I might have been able to have had this taken care of already. But, my son is getting married next week and I can't afford to take time for the surgical procedure that was suggested before the wedding.

So, I'm on a medicine to dilate my ureter so that some of the pressure will be relived and maybe the stone will pass. The Dr said that it would take around 5 days for the med to start working. I'm still on day one. ????

Speaking of the little devils, I just passed 2 Sunday..

I had a stent put in yesterday and I'm having surgery to remove both stones on the 28th with my son's wedding sandwiched in between. Hopefully, I'll feel better by May 1st which is my daughter's college graduation.

I am so sorry you are dealing with this and I feel your pain. I've never had a problem with stones until after my surgery 4.5 months ago. I had them twice in February, once in March, and I awoke with symptoms last night. I seem to be able to handle it with pain meds, but damn this seems to be a horrid side effect. I am trying to increase my Fluid intake. Good luck and I hope you feel better,
