Bowel movement issue. Please help

Curious if this is the norm. I had RNY on Tuesday and am still on full liquid diet. I haven't had a bowel movement yet but today it seems like it's trying to come out. It's like right there but won't come out. Should I just keep walking and try to drink more or should I go to the store and get a stool softener?

  • I agree smooth move tea works! I try to take it once or twice per week.

What do you want to do? If you don't want to wait any longer get a stool softener.

I would say do both. Drinking a ton of water is only good right now. The more you can get in the better. And if you feel uncomfortable or anxious, then go ahead and get a stool softener, or smooth move tea (my personal favorite. very easy on my tummy). It can take time for your digestive system to go back to normal, and you just don't have the same amount of food to digest as before. But yeah... smooth move tea! :D

Problem is I do have pain in my lower belly. I think I'm going to go to the store and look for the tea. I don't want keep pushing

I had surgery last Monday the 16th. On Friday I felt the same way, it was just "right there". I used a ducalax suppository, worked like a charm. I have a feeling I'll be doing the same today or tomorrow.....

Ok thanks sketcher709. Than I'm not crazy. I'm literally like. come out!!!!

This is something that I was not prepared for when I decided to have my RNY. CONSTIPATION ! With the high Protein / low fat diet, stools are solid and hard, constipation is a big issue. I take stool softeners daily as well as either sugar free Citrucel or sugar free Metamucel multiple times daily. I add a little real lemon juice to my Fiber drinks for extra vit. C :)

I first went for the stool softener but the one I have is a liquid filled gel cap so not splittable. What do people use?
