First of all I am super new. My bypass is scheduled for 06.09 and I'm currently on my two week preop diet. I'm also 24 year old type 1 diabetic. Bypass won't cure me but it will help resistance to the insulin I do give myself. So my question is if there are any other type 1s who can tell me how they got on post op managing blood sugar, etc? I'm on an insulin pump & I'm already battling some lows with the preop diet which has me eating very few carbs. Any advice or tips are welcome from type 1 or even 2 diabetics really. This is my main worry going forward. All the doctors & nurses can really tell me is that I will just need to scale back my daily insulin big…

Hiya lovely people, Am just looking for some advice/support/info. I have my rny bypass done on 11th May. All went great, it has almost reversed my diabetes which was completely unstable and was attacking my body. I have lost 27 lbs since surgery which again I think is awesome. My only issue is that I am really struggling with the puréed food. I am a really fussy eater and so can't stomach most Soups and some blended foods that basically becomes like mush or dog food. I have found that I can stomach weetabix, blended beef in gray with a spoon of mash, small yoghurts, and blended tuna mayo..but other than that I am really stuck. I am managing to get most of my fluids …

  7. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that I had it, I love the fact I am losing weight and getting healthy but it seems like people who didn't have the surgery are trying to make me feel bad for having it. I have an instagram to show my progress to my friends and family and I guess to anyone else who follows but when I read though some people's bios or captions, they usually state they're losing weight or lost weight naturally and naturally is usually in all caps. I am starting to feel self-conscious about me not losing weight "naturally" and when I get that feeling I usually find myself eating more than I should. I have a strong will to say "nobody is going to make…

Hi all I had my gastric bypass on the 10th of May and lost 6kg (13lb) in the 1st 10 days post op and was over the moon. I have stuck to the dietitian's guidelines to the letter but in the last 10 days I have only lost a further 1kg (2.2lb). So total in 20 days 7kg (15.4lb) I've started to exercise have exercised 5 out of the last 7 days, I'm doing a 12km (7.5 mile) walk / jog each morning before work. Have just progressed from 3 optifasts with added fat free, low carb powder a day to 2 optifasts with added fat free, low carb powder a day plus one small puréed fish meal. Small meal, about 4 tablespoons. Takes about an hour to get down. No real restrictions with fluids. Goo…

Hi all, thought I'd share my weight loss journey so far. Back in 2004 I weighed 136kg and am 180cm. GP in the UK wouldn't approve SAGB on NHS so I self funded the operation at a hospital in the South of France. Operation went well, weight loss went ok, got down to 90kg. Gradually had complications, slippage and erosion. Weight up to 116kg. Had a revision from band to sleeve in the same operation in Australia 2 years ago (2014) got down to 84kg with the sleeve, sleeve stretched, partly due to poor shape of the sleeve due to the damage done by the band, crept back up to 103kg. So I finally stumped up the courage to go for the full bypass. Had it 2 days ago at a weight of 10…

My insurance company needs proof that there is a problem with the band or that it is giving me problems. So, my surgeon ordered an Upper GI barium swallow. Thankfully, I was able to talk with the radiologist about it before she started, and she seemed to understand. I went through the procedure and she stated that she did see acid reflux as well as a hiatal hernia. She could not determine if the band was in optimal position, so she said she would leave that for the surgeon to determine. All in all, I think this turned out well. I am meeting with the surgeon Monday and hopefully he will agree that there is enough of a problem to satisfy UHC. I had the band put in ba…

My band slipped twice and was finally removed in March of 2015. 12 months later I am 130 lbs heavier and pre-op for the bypass. My date was set for June 15th and I am so excited. It took a bit for me to make the decision to move forward because of all the mental and physical torture the band put me in the last two years I had it. Then without the band I felt like a failure and watched my weight come back. the 15th cannot come fast enough. I know it will be different this time!

  23. Hello everyone, I had surgery May 3rd. I've lost a total of 25 pounds. In the last week I haven't lost any. I meticulously keep track of my food intake, and I have not had more than 500 calories a day since surgery. How can this possibly be? I am progressing on my food pretty well. The only thing I've had trouble with is eggs. It does scare me that I can't feel myself get full until I get that "pain in your chest" feeling. I'm terrified of getting a leak. My surgeon said that after the 21 day mark it is very difficult to get a leak so that helps my fears a bit. Any insight on these issues would be ver appreciated! Thanks! 25. So I recently saw a photo of someone's incisions immediately post-op and I thought, "Darn, the biggest one is RIGHT WHERE THE BRA LOWER BAND HITS!" Ouch! Does anyone have suggestions for a soft bra to wear post-op during the first few weeks of recovery at home? I don't like to sit around with the girls free at all, and while I know I can't get right back in a serious support bra, I don't want to wear no support garment at all. I know I will have visitors, and my 44DD self needs some support to be comfortable in a social situation, even if I am the patient. And....how long til you could go back to wearing real bras again? 32. I get comments lately like "Oh you are so skinny" "You are melting" or "What is your secret?" I hate it. It makes me want to have an eating disorder, just being honest. I've talked with my therapist about these thoughts. It especially bothers me when it comes from ppl who don't know I had the surgery. And no, I'm still eating and drinking as I should, so don't worry about that. I'm just saying, I hate the comments. Like suddenly you notice and care about me? Please.

  42. The first NHANES (National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) covering 1976 through 1980 found that six percent of adolescents (ages 12-19) were obese. By NHANES 2009-2010 that prevalence had more than tripled — to over 18 percent, and by NHANES 2011-2012 it again increased to over 20 percent. Such increases are of course alarming because obesity during childhood and adolescence can bring with it significant morbidity, and frequently leads to adult obesity with its concomitant ailments and increased health care costs. Thus finding the means to reduce the progression to adult obesity is a significant health care priority. Some recent research may point to a means…
