Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums

Gastric bypass (RNY) support. Ask about the procedure, dumping syndrome, the bypass diet, nutrition, weight loss, and complications.

  1. Although this research is not about gastric bypass surgery, I thought it is relavant because of 1. Patients who undergo RNY gastric bypass are given a vitamin regime that they need to take for the rest of their lives. 2. Post-op they undergo blood work to show any deficiencies in vitamins annually. This is excellent monitoring regiment. Dr. J.A. Lemon from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada and colleagues from several institutions, used the TGM (transgenic growth hormone) mouse model to assess the efficacy of a dietary supplement in ameliorating neuro-degenerative symptoms. Their report was published in the journal Environmental and Molecular Mutagenesis. The a…

  6. This has happened 2x for me, so I decided to ask everybody here if this has happened to them. When I am having a bm, and you feel it "getting to the door to evacuate" all of a sudden I feel nauseous and very close to vomiting. No it has nothing to do with smell lol it occurs before the door is opened ha. I am not struggling with constipation or diarrhea. All is normal. Never had this issue before. So awhile ago I made a post about a few things: 1. People making me feel bad about having the surgery and 2) having some issues with being really tired after eating. For the update about the first topic: I deleted my instagram and immediately I felt 100 times better and I am back on track of with my weight loss! I started walking again, drinking more Water, and I also have been learning how to avoid the hate comments I tend to get from my family. As for the second one: I see my new doctor on the 6th but I went to an urgent care because I felt really bad and I was told that I could have celiac's disease so I am to keep a journal of everything I eat now and record t…

It doesn't hurt unless I am moving and the pain is a burning internal pain. The incision is not red or swollen and I have no fever. Is this normal? Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Hi there. I am about 3 weeks postop. I've yet to have felt dumping or any complications. At noon I had a lean cuisine which had rice and carrots in it. I felt fine eating it and of course only had a few tablespoons but I'm pretty sure I ate way too fast and too much. After about an hour I had serious air bubbles in my tummy. It was very painful. And I kept feeling air come up but couldn't belch. It has since calmed down after I dry heaved and a bunch of air came out. I am still feeling so full and have the air in there. It's not nearly as uncomfortable as it was. But it was pretty rough. I don't think this was full on dumping but maybe a version of it? It's still going on…

So I am still slowly getting better, was able to go to church today, grocery shop and hang out with my doggies at the park. My nausea is almost gone and I am so excited about that. I think today is the first day I felt hunger, it scared me at first but then I was grateful because I rather have this and eat what I am supposed to instead of being sick and nauseous all the time. Things are starting to look up finally after 3 weeks of suffering, just hope my wound heal up quickly and without any problems.

At the beginning of the year I planned a week vacation to MI to visit my family (parents, sister and niece and nephews) the beginning of July since my favorite Kiddos will be out of school. Well my surgery was scheduled just two weeks prior to my planned trip. Since I will already be on leave from work 3-6 weeks as needed I figured that maybe I could reschedule my trip for week 4. My question is, for those that have had RYN how did you feel 4 weeks out? Do you think you would have been able to do a a couple hour plane ride? Once I am there I can take it as easy as I want and my plan is really just to hang out with the family and play with the niece and nephews ( my …

Tonight for dinner my husband grilled steak. I made roasted cauliflower and some steamed carrots. I took a piece of steak that was approximately 2-1/2 oz of meat along with a few pieces of cauliflower and a couple slices of carrot. I ate my meat first (Protein first always!), then had a couple small florets of cauliflower, and had to stop because I was full. After about 5 minutes after stopping, I started to feel a bit nauseous. Cleaning up the kitchen I started to feel a bit more nauseous, and was a bit worried about vomiting. But, then I started those hiccup/burp things, and instantly started to feel better. Luckily the nausea went away, and I'm just left feeling…

Drs. A.M. Adachi-Mejia and K.E. Schifferdecker from Dartmouth College investigated the barriers (particularly in women) that prevented them from engaging in physical activity. The most frequently cited barriers to increasing activity were lack of time, lack of energy, lack of company and lack of facilities. But the barriers cited differed by weight class, with normal-weight women citing lack of facilities, while the obese women most frequently cited barrier was a lack of self-discipline. When the researchers analyzed the results of the open-ended survey, they found that respondents tended to focus on different barriers. For example, as weight class increased, more p…

  19. Good evening my friends! When you had RNY did you ever tell yourself "if I lose this weight I will never let myself gain it back again"? Well, I sure did. I had RNY in June of 2008 and went from 328 lbs. to 175 lbs. I felt positively svelt and could do all the things I could never do heavy. I continued on and did very well until my son passed away suddenly at the age of 27. That was in December 2010. He had a brain tumor in 2001 near his pituitary and due to the trauma to the gland, he would be on testerone injections, thyroid meds, DDAVP (Desmopressin for Diabetes Insipidus) and an assorted other types of pills to do for him what the pituitary couldn't. 23. I am scheduled to have surgery June 13, and I am sort of extremely nervous about it. My friend is having surgery the same day, and she has told everyone that she is having it. However, I've only told her, one other friend, my parents, and my husband. I am pretty private, and I don't want to be judged for having this surgery. Everyone has seen me struggle with my weight my entire life. I watch YouTube videos constantly, but it seems like YouTubers are still *relatively* (using the term loosely here) new-- less than 5 years out from surgery. A little back story, I'm 24 years old. I have PCOS, but other than that I'm generally healthy other than my obesity. I currently am 5.6 and weigh 289 pounds. I'm hoping to weigh 150 after everything is said and done. I was just wondering if this is realistic or possible? Or if I'm setting myself up for failure ahead of time ???? also, any suggestions for what to pack for surgery day and stay? I look forward to any help or suggestions yall have! Thank you! [emoji8]

I had my surgery 1-7-2004, and I started at 445 pounds, and today I have maintained 230 for the past 2 years. My lowest weight during the process was 150 which was way too thin. My ideal desire is to maintain 180. I'm 6ft tall and look great at that weight. I am having some specific issues and was not sure if there was a good place to discuss those? So I had my 3 month follow up with my surgeon last Friday! He did a Barium Swallow test to make sure the pain I'm having isn't food getting stuck. That looked good. So he said he is pretty sure it's my Gallbladder. I go for an ultrasound tomorrow and if I have stones, he wants to take it out. Have some of you had this done? Well, I haven't lost but 2 lbs. this in the last 4 weeks too. That's frustrating because I am eating right, getting in all my stuff and I've been working out. Anyways, I am still down 45 lbs. so, way happier and I feel better....

Hi all, I was revised 2 weeks ago to bypass and my biggest incision is where the port was. There was a lot of scar tissue so they really had to dig around to get the port out so I was told that this area will be more sore and pulling/burning which is normal. However I am not sure if the rest of my belly swelling is going down or what but that location seems to be bigger, sticking out more and it's hard underneath. The incision have healed very well but I am concerned about the bulging part of it. I will call the dr on Tuesday and ask since its holiday now, but has anyone else had this?
