What's the truth about ibuprofen? I'm a band patient hoping to get revised to RNY. When I received my band my surgeon said no ibuprofen/no carbonation. Never ever changed to "Awww go ahead" not long into my journey so Im wondering if the same is true for RNY? I'm not an Advil junkie but a little worried about never ever ever having an effective pain reliever to use occasionally or if God forbid I need an anti inflammatory later in life. Thanks!

Hello everyone, I am 8 month post op since my gastric bypass Surgury I had in Dec 2015. I been very depress because after my gastric bypass I had to have a second Surgury a month later due to a bowel obstruction. After that I have been dilated 3 times having a endoscopy and dilation. I haven't been able to keep food down. It's rare when I can eat without vomiting. I just saw my gastro Doctor and she stated that she can't dilated me because it's like she is starting from the beginning. It closes up. She spoke to my surgeon and he said no more dilation. He wants to see me this Tuesday to discuss a possible 3rd Surgury. I have a picc line due to not having enough Vitamins a…

I'm 19 weeks post op. Some people in my monthly support group meetings have said they've started to drink alcohol about 6-10 months post op. I have absolutely no intensions of doing so but I don't have the guts to ask those people how they feel after drinking. Anyone here started drinking alcohol? I've been drinking the premier Protein vanilla. It got too sweet for me so switched to the chocolate. My stomach was fine with it for 2 days. Now it's a no go with that. It's just sitting in my stomach waiting to come up. I can't even drink my Water. I've tried the powder as well and that was a no go. I don't know what else to do. First, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all of you who so kindly answered my many questions and concerns before my RNY on August 18th. And a special helping of good karma to those who helped talk me off the ledge as I drove myself bat-**** crazy while making the decision between RNY or the sleeve. For those of you who are considering RNY, and are worried about the recovery, I can only speak for my experience but.....the recovery was so much easier than what I had been imagining. Now, surgery day and the first full day of post-op were no party, not a lot of fun. But nothing unbearable, nothing that I couldn't get through with good nurses and pain meds. I got to …

I'm looking for help. I was doing well for a few years after surgery but life happened and I got COMPLETELY off track. I've moved and the local practice at last check wanted $3000 to follow me. Needless to say I didn't go since I couldn't afford them. I've been following different sites and just have a hard time with coming up with the money for multiple shakes on a daily basis. I work 6 days a week between 8-12hrs a day or more. The one thing I want to do on my day off is REST not exercise. Exercise it the last thing I want to do at all after putting in so many hours in a day and week. Any suggestion would be welcomed. Please don't berate me. I'm human. I fell off and no…

My surgery was December 7th, 2015. I know I'm barely about to get into the 5th week but not a day has gone by that I don't regret my choice. I find myself hating people for enjoying food while I'm stuck vomiting up 90% of anything solid I eat. I have random bouts of anger and sadness to the point where I have to leave, even my family and friends, just to be alone and slowly slip into memories where, despite being overweight, lonely, and miserable...I was still happier than I am now. I close my doors because the smell of food infuriates me. I lock them so my family and friends don't see how angry/sad I am. I stuff my head into headphones so I don't have to hear their joyou…

Now my stomach is not tolerating the Protein shake again. It feels like it just sits in my body and so everything I try to eat the rest of the day makes me feel yucky. I can't eat anything else. I even had to start taking the nauseous Medicine. I can't eat because I can still taste everything I've eaten earlier. I talked to my Dr and they've changed my meds. Everything taste too too sweet. I'm not getting my protein and I can feel it. Sent from my SM-G550T1 using the BariatricPal App

Hi all, went to my 2 week post op meeting today and am now allowed to have some foods....limited list, but I am not complaining! The nutritionist recommended we use a crock pot to cook meats, and specifically said no pressure cooker bc a pressure cooker tends to make meat stringy and tough....but I thought I have heard that meat was tender when cooked in a pressure cooker? What's been your experience? I was all set to order my InstantPot, but would like to hear if you all find the meat juicy and tender enough in a pressure cooker? Maybe my NUT doesn't use one herself? Hi Everyone! I am very new to this site and have never posted a topic here either. I am half-way through the process to have my WLS Surgery and could always use friends who have had the surgery or waiting like me. I haven't told any of my friends at all and am a bit lonely right now. My parents know, but they don't count. LOL. I live in the Scarborough Area and will be having surgery at Humber River Hospital probably around the middle of October - Yeah!! Anyone out there wanna chat.

I thought maybe I ate something I shouldn't... I had some tortilla chips the night before this began... Then I thought it was a "bug" since it lasted so long... It's now the end of the 4th day... I eat or drink, then shortly after I'll "go" and it's complete liquid. No blood. No weird colors. Just liquid. I'm calling my surgeon tomorrow if it continues but I thought I'd ask for incite, and maybe peace of mind, for the night... :/ Anyone experience this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hello All, I was banded in 2009, had it removed in 2014. Awful, daily vomiting, etc. Is the gastric bypass better? How do you have to eat your food? Do you get stuck, like with the band? I am terrified of putting myself in the same situation as with the band, but I cannot seem to find exactly how you have to eat/chew/swallow with the bypass. Any info, even what your meals look and feel like would be awesome...Thank you for your stories!

Did you have iv pain meds? How many days were you admitted? Did you have to do any swallow testing before you went home? Best Protein options for someone who HATES protein drinks(besides isopure)? Tips on things to bring to the hospital? Did they send you home with liquid pain meds or pills and how long did you take them? Can I bring pajamas to the hospital and wear those instead of those nasty hospital gowns (post op I mean, I know you have to wear them during surgery)? Any other helpful tips? Hi all! So Im four weeks post op today and have lost 28 lbs total. Im thrilled with that! But have some concerns regarding not getting my vegetables in for Fiber and other nutrition. By the time i eat my Protein, Im full and have no room for veggies. Im only suppose to eat three meals a day. Im on soft foods currently but am worried no getting veggies may contribute to hair loss down the road-or other issues. I am faithfully taking my Vitamins and meds. Any suggestions? Anyone else worry about this or am I just being weird?? Lol... Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

There are many benefits to weight loss surgery. In my case it drove my diabetes, high blood pressure, GERD, and sleep apnea into remission. But there are other subtle changes to one's health that are less observable. A study published Thursday in The New England Journal of Medicine found excess weight was linked to eight additional types of cancer— stomach, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, ovary, the brain tumor meningioma, thyroid cancer and multiple myeloma— after reviewing more than 1,000 related studies. So driving down the weight can reduce the risk of cancer in several areas. "The burden of cancer due to being overweight or obese is more extensive than what has…

Hi all, I'm a 23 Canadian female, BMI 43. I've been overweight for my whole life and I've been through many failed attempts at weightloss including medical bariatric diets. I'm now with my parents' support looking for the surgery. I've decided to go abroad to avoid the long wait as I don't want to waste more time, I want the head start to weightloss so I can begin a new healthy lifestyle sooner rather than later. I'm considering Mexico due to cheaper costs and many good things I've heard. So far I've done much research and have narrowed my potential surgeons to 3. I know there are many many fantastic surgeons but from my research and correspondences I feel great abou…

I'm almost 4 weeks post. I'm starting to not feel like myself. I was doing good til a couple days ago. My stomach is not feeling it best. Doesn't like my Protein shakes, Premier Protein, I can't keep anything down. I can only take in 2-3 small bites of anything. That 4th bite, and I'll be hugging the toilet. I feel bad to the point of not being able to walk or exercise. Water is starting to have a nasty taste. I've tried the MIO enhancers and I can't do it. Don't know what else to do. I have been fighting for 2 years to make it through this process and get scheduled for my RNY. Now, when I finally see a light at the end of the tunnel, I hit an obstacle. My surgery was approved prior to doing the testing. Everything was going great, preop scheduled for 8/25. Then I got a phone call today from the surgeons office, my preop has to be cancelled because I have been diagnosed with moderate to severe sleep apnea. I have to be fitted for a CPAP before they can reschedule unless my doctor is willing to write a letter clearing me for surgery without the machine. Of course that is not happening. I just want to cry. Sent from my SM-G530T1 using the BariatricPa…

Hey all, I think I hit a stall and would really like some advice please. I am 14 weeks out from my roux en y. I am now weighing in at 177lbs, and my BMI is 24, I'm 185cm tall and a 41 year old male. For over a week now my weight has not really moved, a few days back I actually went up a couple of lbs I was horrified, but then today I'm back to 177. I would like to get another 7-14 lbs off if possible. I'm getting around 80g of Protein in each day, around 45-55g of carbs, and about 700-850 calories. I'm getting about 60oz of Water in a day. My post surgery food experience has not been smooth. At 14 weeks I'm still not managing a lot of the foods my team have sugges…

I'm having bypass Monday 8/29 my surgeon wants all women who have periods to take multivitamin with iron. Most take flintstones chewable. I have found that I CAN NOT take them. Because I can not have a bowel movement while on them. I've had lifelong issues with constipation I'm already taking Linzess, pro biotics, stool softeners and benefiber. With the vitamins I TMI alert-went 5 days without going then when I did I strained for over an hour with rock hard stool and I actually bled. YIKES!! Talked to pharmacist and she said the easier o digest iron is extended release so probably won't work for bypass pts. Yes I will talk to my dr after Monday but I just wondered has anyon…

Hi all, I am 8 months out from RNY and have lost 89 lbs.(starting 263, currently 174, by 5'5"). I've only dropped about 3 lbs in the last two months (no increase in calories or amount of food or carbs). I'm wondering if this is about it from the surgery or if I can expect to continue losing for a bit, albeit much more slowly. I'd love to hear others experiences after the first six months. Did you continue to lose? When did you enter maintenance? Thanks from a long time lurker, first time poster.

Hi everybody, My name is Angie and I'm new to this online support method. I'm looking for people my age with whom I could relate to and seek advice from with no judgement. I'm almost two years post op and have lost over 170 pounds. I actually dropped almost 10 pounds below my goal and have maintained it since my weight stabilized in September. I’ve been fortunate enough to stick to a healthy eating regimen for almost two years now. But realistically it's not perfect, and believe me the struggle is never over. Besides seeking advice, I'm also here to give advice when needed. I love to cook and remake healthy renditions to recipes, and am more than happy to share. …

So, there is a ton of back and forth on how long people took off from work and life post op, I am just wondering if anyone had success going back to school soon after surgery?? I go to a private college so I can only miss so many classes a term and I also don't want to fall behind. I can get work done ahead of time but there are things I need to be there in person for. Like I said, just wondering about everyone's personal experiences with attending classes post op. Thanks!!! Hi, I'm new to this. My wife and I are in the process of being approved for gastric bypass surgery. My wife is classified as obese. I am 5'11" and hover around 250. My bmi hovers around the 35 range. Along with a number of health problems such as sleep apnea, high cholesterol, pain due to neck surgery and potential diabetes this makes me eligible for the procedure. Like an idiot I mentioned to a co-worker that I was thinking of having the procedure done and was immediately met with a lot of criticism. My weight has always fluctuated and I've always had a tough time keeping it off. Being that my wife is having it done I thought I would bite the bullet and go through it wi…

It has been a marathon of activity since surgery. The journey started 8/3/16. Home 8/4 - could've stayed another night but couldn't do it. The idea of laying around the hospital when that could be done at home sold me on leaving. Only had anti-inflammatories at home and was back to work on 8/8/16. They were half days and I had some support through Wednesday, 8/10. Since then it has gotten busier & busier. Switched to baby food/purées. Transitioning to fork smashed this week. Today was the first day of school. I still have not vomited but have experienced all steps leading up to dumping last night. Sleepiness. Dizziness. shakes. Chills. Slept 10+ hours and had a tough …

It’s pretty widely known that chronic over-indulgence in alcoholic beverages can play havoc with one’s liver — in extreme cases ending up with cirrhosis and a non-functioning organ. But non-drinkers can also have liver problems. In particular, there is one called non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, or NAFLD, which is a risk factor for chronic liver disease and cardiovascular disease, according to the authors of a recent report in JAMA Internal Medicine. NAFLD is a condition in which triglycerides (fats) accumulate within liver cells. If the accumulation is extensive enough it can trigger inflammation and a condition known as steatosis, which can then progress to irreversi…

I am almost 2 years post-op. I was 256 pounds at 5'3" before surgery and have lost 83 pounds. I am happy with my weight loss and am still losing slowly. How are ladies dealing with excess skin especially at your mid-section? I am wearing much smaller clothing sizes but the skin around my mid-section looks horrible. I'm wearing high-waisted shapewear and it helps a bit. Have you found any shapewear or girdles that help? Thank you.!

So I had my first post-op blood work drawn a couple of weeks ago (about 5 months post-op). I will admit, I was a bit nervous because of what I read on this forum. While I am very diligent about taking my Vitamins, people here seem to take so many more vitamins than I do that it had me concerned. I just take 2 Centrum adult in the morning, that's all. Anyway, my labs came back perfect! Question for you more seasoned vets - did you see much variability in your labs over time? Did any of your results degrade over time with the same Vitamin regiment?

I'm 33. I had my initial RNY at 22. I lost 150 pounds. I started at 375. And then I found out the day after my surgery my doctor was out of business because he lost his medical insurance. I followed up with another doctor after and found my pouch was too big. I was devastated to say the least. Over the last 10 years I went almost back to my original weight. I had a revision at 350 done in April of 2015. I've lost 100-ish pounds since then. But now I'm stuck again. I live in Dallas, TX. Been through a divorce right before my revision. I'm engaged but I feel bad for my fiancé. He tries so hard not to show that my weight bothers him. He loves me unconditionally but I wan…
