Hi Everyone!

I am very new to this site and have never posted a topic here either.

I am half-way through the process to have my WLS Surgery and could always use friends who have had the surgery or waiting like me. I haven't told any of my friends at all and am a bit lonely right now. My parents know, but they don't count. LOL. I live in the Scarborough Area and will be having surgery at Humber River Hospital probably around the middle of October - Yeah!!

Anyone out there wanna chat.

Welcome to your new family! I had RNY sept. 26th of 2014. I have done very well with no complications.

I know it's a long process but so worth it in the end. I have 34lbs left to lose until I hit my personal goal. I have had so many goals already met, the most important is that I have my overall health back. No more diabetes, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, high blood pressure or stage 3 kidney disease.

I wish you the best of luck! If you need anything or want to chat via personal message, I am always up for that. We just need to become friends.

@@Tucker25 - Hi! Welcome! I am only 5 1/2 weeks out RNY, but I am happy to help however I can. Take @@Djmohr up on her offer to contact her personally too though. She has been an amazing friend and support to me and has such reasonable advice! (Deb, I swear I am not stalking you though I know it may seem that way!

@Djmohr: That's so amazing to hear that your medical issues are now gone. This is why Bariatric Surgery saves our lives. Thank you for welcoming me. ???? I will definitely take you up on your offer of support. Ahhhhh I'm so excited and scared too. Soooo many things will be happening soon.

@Daisee: congratulations on your recent surgery!!! Woohoo!! How are you finding things so soon after? Do you have any pain and how is your eating? My main concern will be lack of Vitamins. I will be making sure to get every Vitamin in me and drink all of my water/liquids.

I just met my nurse last week and dietician and it was serious information overload. Lots to do before surgery in October. But I am up for this challenge for sure.

I am doing OK. First few weeks weren't too bad, but I had a lot of trouble with nausea and constipation the last 10 days or so but it is finally subsiding. Could have been several different reasons, but as long as I am feeling better, I don't care why! I still am having issues learning to eat slow enough and chewing enough - mostly with meats - and have vomited a few times but I went back to liquids for a couple of days and have stayed on pureed since. I think I just started the more dense foods too early. I have my 6 week follow up Tuesday, so dr will advise how to advance foods. You will find on here that there are so many different plans, and it can get confusing, so just remember to stick with what your surgeon and NUT (nutrionist) require. They know you and your body.

The pain really isn't too bad for too long. I mean I took my pain meds, trust me. It is difficult to bend at the waist for a couple of weeks. But by 3rd week at least it was mostly gone. I have an occasional ache near a couple of the incisions but I think that is when I overdo it (I did a 2 1/2 mile walk with my sister this morning and probably 1 1/2 miles yesterday, so I am sore and tired. Probably shouldn't have just jumped in that far, but I was so happy to be feeling normal!) No real complications other than the nausea and constipation and I think it is partly because I was still taking pain med when I probably didn't need to be (I passed 4 kidney stones since surgery which is unrelated to RNY and have a stress fracture in my foot that is healing).

Primary rules - fluids, Protein, Vitamins. It is tough getting in even fluids in the beginning but it gets easier. My sister asked me today what the one thing was that surprised me the most and I said the small amount I can eat. And it varies. I just ate 4 ounces of Soup and it was just perfect. I ate just less than that at lunch and was full. Yesterday, I was only able to get in 2 Tbsp of Ricotta Bake at dinner before becoming too full because it is very dense (check out TheWorldAccordingToEggface.com when you get a minute. It is a bariatric patient's blog and she has some great recipes. @@Djmohr has also posted a few good recipes for us lately.)

I'm fairly new as well, and grew up in your area. Moved to Washington last year and had the RNY last August. . Haven't had too many problems and still losing Wishing you the best of luck and if I can help at all let me know

My approval process took about a year to complete, with my RNY surgery date approaching fast on 07/29!

Being here, learning everything I could, meeting new friends, and especially being able to openly share my experience with so many others has been invaluable. And I can't imagine I would have gotten through the process without them.

I am having my surgery at Humber River Memorial - Finch Site. I am meeting with my Internist Doctor on September 8 and will probably get my surgery date!!! It is a very exciting thing so I know how you feel. If you haven't already, research Dr. Penner. You can check him out on SPCO, put in his last name and it will give you info about him. I am sure he is an awesome doctor. We have the best doctors for this type of surgery in Canada. Hey would you be interested i keeping in touch with me? We can support each other through this by email if you want. I am so horrible about coming on here.

My surgeon is Dr Hagen and my appointment with him was quite useless. LOL. He didn't give me any info at all about this procedure or anything. I was quite disappointed with meeting him, but I know he is good. I have spoken with some people who had him do their surgery as well. I hope your appointment is better.

Surgery went well, no complications I had the RNY done. I've lost over 150 since the surgery itself and 200 + from my highest. Still losing and hope it continues until I am down to my goal weight. Let's see

Manitoba here - I am also pre surgery - like you about half way through pre operative stage - once I have my Iron levels up will be going on to meet the anesthetist, surgeon and get my diet teachings. My iron as of my appointment on the 17th was at 45 it needs to be at a 50 to move on so a bit frustrated. Hopeful though when my blood work is done on Sept 22 that it will be where it needs to be at - if it is I am to get my history and physical filled out because they will be booking those appointments right away - like I said very hopeful that things will progress quickly soon.

Hi Ladies, I'm in Peterborough and having surgery in Toronto. I've completed all the required appointments and meet the surgeon tomorrow to get my surgery date!!! I'm very nervous because this will actually be a reversion surgery. I paid out of pocket in 2011 for a lap band. Did really well, then it slipped out of position while I was pregnant in 2014 and by then the company had went bankrupt and I had no where to go. Since slipped band, pregnancy and looking after an infant I've gain all the weight back (80lbs). Will let you know how it goes tomorrow. Also looking for ppl to keep in touch with during this process.
